“We decided to travel down to Southampton to experience this up and coming chef. Daniel Rogan, whose father has three Michelin stars, clearly has some serious skills in the kitchen and a great pedigree. We arrived at the farm location. It was interesting driving the not made for off road car in the dark across the mud/gravel entrance to the farm. I was expecting to hit a pot hole but everything was smooth sailing. We parked up and found the entrance. A very unassuming wooden door. Upon entering we were greeted with a lovely smile from front of house. We were shown to our table which gave us an audience view of the open plan kitchen, like all the other tables. Overall the food was exquisite. And at £110pp can't be beaten for value, especially when comparing to London prices. Although this was not Michelin starred, if Daniel keeps going like this it surely must be in his future. The restaurant itself did feel like a village hall, but then you're on a farm. Not sure what other reviewers are expecting. Normally I go through each of the dishes but you can see the menu and all you need to know is that each dish complemented the preceding dish well. The Old Winchester Cheddar was our favourite, and the dessert was well worth waiting for. Service was good enough. Some servers way friendlier than others (shout out to the lovely blonde lady with glasses - sorry I can't remember your name!). We overall had a great experience. It was worth the 90 minute drive from London. I'm going to keep an eye on the seasonal menu changes and come down again to see how it's progressed.”

“Excellent food, well prepared, finest quality and very tasty. My wife and I enjoyed deep fried brie, leek and potato soup, a salmon Caesar salad and a fish and chips. Would recommend if you are staying at the Woodlands Lodge Hotel that you dine here at least once.”

“We had a table booked, but when we turned up we were told food would be a 35 to 45 min wait, and to be fair it was a very busy summer Friday night, the queue for the bar was out of the door, although it cleared quickly. Then they surprised us by serving the starter in less than 15 minutes after we ordered, and main course equally quick, maybe they were managing our expectations! :-D They're obviously a very popular pub when the sun is shining, with a lot of garden tables. The crispy beef was excellent, we only in the area for one night, but would definitely eat here again.”

“Absolutely loved our stay here. This was the perfect place for our young family to explore the New Forest and was always a nice warm welcome back to at the end of each day out and about. The food is excellent (both adults and children’s menu) and the cosy pub with its open fires and great beers was the perfect place to relax after an eventful day exploring. We stayed in room 1 which overlooked the green so our daughter was able to watch the horses grazing and had plenty of room for us all. Thank you for having us and can’t wait to stay again.”

“Our visit to The Sir John Barleycorn in Cadnam was nothing short of fantastic! From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed by the warm and inviting ambiance of this charming pub. The blend of traditional decor with modern comforts made it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal. The menu was impressive, offering a variety of mouth-watering options. I decided to try the steak and ale pie, and it was delicious – the pastry was perfectly flaky, and the filling was rich and flavourful. My friend had the seafood platter, which was fresh and beautifully presented. Both dishes were generous in portion and tasted amazing. The service was outstanding. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about our dining experience. They were happy to accommodate our requests and even recommended some excellent local ales to complement our meals. The dessert was the highlight of our evening. We shared a homemade apple crumble with custard, and it was the perfect end to a wonderful meal – comforting, sweet, and utterly satisfying. If you’re in Cadnam and looking for a place with excellent food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere, The Sir John Barleycorn is a must-visit. We can’t wait to return!”

“Didn’t start well had to wait 15 mins for drinks, had to reorder as our drinks order had been lost. Got to be really honest service was a little slow for a Tuesday night. Yes the service was slow but no means poor, very few staff who were over whelmed for a Tuesdays bar and restaurant was packed out. Katherine the waitress was a very professional and calm, she could only work as quick as she could, and the same could be said of one on the bar and the another chap waiting on tables. Food was excellent and with one more member of staff things would have been better for all. Lovely place great decor and as for the vents toilets amazing. It was nice to see a good vegetarian choice with the added extra of adding a meat choice to it. Not seen this before. I love my veg and also a big meat eater and often when dinning out ask if I can have ham, sausage or other meats to add to a vegetarian meal as sometimes these are a better choice. Nice touch.”

“A great find whilst on holiday. Searched local pubs for a quick dinner nearby. It was just past 8pm and whilst others stopped food at that time, this pub was 9pm and they booked a table for us straight away. I took my 10 year old daughter and young dog - both got a lot of attention. They are very dog friendly and also good choice being I am vegetarian - especially Sunday roast. There was a singer performing and she was really good. Staff were very friendly. Food was great. Had such a good time, we booked for a Sunday lunch the next day and had the same experience. As we are nearby often, it will be a regular choice. I would definitely recommend.”

“Had an amazing roast on 2/2/25. Staff were great and attentive. The waiter remembered I was vegan so when I ordered a dessert that was no longer vegan, he was able to let me know to order something else. Quality of food was great from starter to dessert. Would highly recommend”
