“4 Star overall (take away only - but setting seemed comfortable). Fortunately the food (Thai green curry and Pad Thai tasted great but lacked some basic ingredients I would expect.. Was disappointed to find courgettes instead of pak choir, Asian aubergine or even some mangetout or green beans... Looking forward to the next opportunity to see if the kitchen has taken note. Would be interested to know if there are any Thai cooks involved?”

River Rat Hamble
High St, Hamble-le-Rice, Southampton SO31 4HA, UK
Phone: 023 8045 7801
“We stopped by for a Sunday roast. We tried beef, lamb and the vegetarian option, which arrives without potatoes but was quickly rectified. We didn't try the cocktails as we thought they were a bit on the expensive side, and the selection of desserts of the day didn't push us enough, but the meat was juicy and tender, and we are sure that in summer the atmosphere will be much more enjoyable than winter, especially in their outside area/garden that was very nice. It would be lovely to go back in summer.”

Gaff Rigger
Mercury Yacht Harbour & Holiday Park, Satchell Ln, Hamble-le-Rice, Southampton SO31 4HQ, UK
Phone: 023 8045 5595
“Gaff Rigger experience was very nice. They have several nice seating options - outdoors, on the deck overlooking the marina, conservatory (play area for kids with Lego blocks), bar, outdoors and another restaurant enclosure - so lots of choice. And the food and drinks were nice, they have the usual pub fare, but always offer a couple of special menu items. Among nibbles, highly recommend tempura prawns with wasabi.”

“Full confession: I am Bavarian by birth. So I don’t now anything about Ahornsirup tenderly sucked up in fluffy pancakes and good slices of roasted ham giving it a salty twist. Also I am not raised by proteins delivered by perfectly poached eggs on a muffin to die for and a sauce bernaise which, now, was just this twist so all came together as a one time experience. Did I mention we do not eat squeezy, yummi Walnutcakes by nature? Right. Thus it may well be that the twinkle and the all smiles attitude of all the Jennies at this place will make me recommend this Cafe by heart. A pity we only drink amounts of beer out of oversized barrelllike glasses and only know about white sausages, brez’n, sweet mustard and porkbelly. go there, have decent food and a great time as I had - thank you and all the best”

“Never been to the area but came down for my dad’s birthday, however: We walked in as a table of 16 and all got served quickly with drinks despite not booking. The staff were lovely, showing perfect service. Rebecca especially showed so much hospitality despite our late turn up and lack of booking. The food was incredibly, every dish came out promptly and cooked perfectly. I had a burger that was both juicy and delicious, the sides were the exact size to fill me up. While we ate a live guitarist played us music which only added to the atmosphere. What an incredible pub. If you are ever in the area, DO NOT miss coming into the King and Queen Pub. You will not regret it. Credit to all bar staff, servers and chefs for a phenomenal experience. I can not wait till I’m next in the area.”
