“Everything was amazing! The meats on the mixed grill was all super flavourful. The hummus kavurma and smoked salmon carpaccio is perfect for starters, not too heavy, not too overpowering. Tea was excellent! Baklava was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Definitely worth a visit!”

“Visiting a friend in 'stoke and he recommended this place for a quick bite to eat before a concert. The decor is stripped back but the flavours are not. We both went for the Jollof rice, me with mutton stew, which was wonderfully spicy. We accompanied this with Nigerian Guinness (7.5%, be warned). We grabbed a bag of cinnamon puff puffs to go for dessert which were like donut holes. We left happily full. Hope to return and try some other items from the menu. Service was very friendly too. Recommended.”

“We've have been meaning to eat at the Clockspire for a while but timings had conspired against us. Whilst staying in Shaftesbury, I had secretly booked us in as a surprise for my husband. We were treated to excellence in food, service and location. On arrival we were taken up to the bar to enjoy drinks and to select our food. Then we went down to our table. We enjoyed every delectable mouthful of each of our three courses. There were layers of tastes to bombard our taste buds! Just superb!”

“I came in with my husband for some lunch a few weeks ago. I am all for independent businesses and I want to continue to support this one which has been epic in the past. But this time, there were issues. I was served promptly and paid for my order. The lady wrote down my order on a piece of paper and put to the left hand side of the till. Other people had their orders taken in the same manner and received their food before me. All the while, I was stood at the front waiting for the order. A member of the team finally asked if I had been served and when I said, yes, a while ago, they rushed to find that particular piece of paper that my order was on. Once found, they couldn't be more helpful and quick with my order and were very apologetic. There needs to be a better ticketing system to make sure that people are served in order. This seemed hap hazard and unprofessional. The atmosphere was lively to say the least. Most of the noise was from behind the till. The team seemed to be having fun, which was nice to see. But there was a lot of yelling to each other. The big pan was BBQ tandoori chicken and was amazing. The portions were great. The nachos with chilli was tasty. But the nacho crisps had an awful lot of salt on them. So often you had a huge hit of salt, which stopped me finishing my meal. Lastly, you used to do a great jacket potato when you were outside. Where have they gone? I miss them.”

National Trust - The Vyne

“National Trust site that has fantastic volunteers, a large house, walled garden, walks, used bookstore, cafe, and shop. If visiting in summer I’m sure this is 5 stars, but in January the walled garden was a bit barren and walks closed off. We spent about 30 minutes in this Tudor mansion house’s ground floor. Each room had small signs, and volunteers were excellent at providing additional details. There were a few rooms with interesting and unique touches, like the Stone Gallery (once a greenhouse), print room where pictures from Grand Tour pasted on the wall, and the 500 year old chapel at the end that depicts a 29 year old Henry VIII kneeling in the stained glass. The cafe was nice with plenty of seating, and had multiple vegetarian options like soup, toasties, drinks, and cakes. Facilities: Toilets in the car park and at house were adequate. Decent car park but not paved so can be muddy when went. The gift shop is quite small.”

Spices and Spirits
3 Kings Furlong Dr, Centre, Basingstoke RG21 8YT, UK
Phone: 01256 636575
“Decided to try here due to reviews. I got the Chati Lamb prices at £16.50, rice and peshwari nan. I find the prices a little on the high side given the portion size served. The curry had a lot of spice, the lamb was soft with a couple of chewy parts but spice like a Madras. The rice was fine as you would expect. The Nan, was a bit flavourless actually, very small portion with not very much filling. Overall I would rate this visit 6/10.”
