“I absolutely LOVE this tea room!! The Old Forge provides a fantastic atmosphere, service and food and drinks! 💘 From teas to coffees and delicious hot chocolates to soft drinks. There is quite a selection of drinks to stop off and enjoy. ☕️❤️ The food, well... Exquisite!! Bacon Sandwiches or Sausage sandwiches, to a full English, to sausuage rolls, salads and toasted sandwiches. This tea room provides delicious homemade meals for breakfast and lunch. Not mention their incredible afternoon tea!! The cakes are out this world and there is quite a large selection. I love their carrot cake and recently, the Lime and Passionfruit cake. 😍 If your in the area, THIS IS A MUST visit!! Ed and Claire run this place so well with a warm, inviting presence! Highly recommend for walkers, dog owners, cyclists, motorcyclists and car enthusiasts! If you have a few of you with you, I recommend booking in advanced.”

“I was lucky enough to be treated to a birthday lunch today. Everything was amazing from the moment we walked in, your coat was taken and hung up. The waitress was lovely and very friendly. The food was amazing, beautifully presented and very fresh. The whole experience was amazing, even my 4year old granddaughter enjoyed it! Thank you. Will look forward to doing the Vineyard tour in the summer.”

“Fantastic Sunday roast and great selection of draft beers and ales. A lovely touch also from the landlord to pop over and introduce himself too as we hadn't been in since he took over. Will be visiting again.”

“I had prawns (one of the specials) which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Honestly couldn't fault it. Also really nice staff and dog friendly. Our dog can be a bit nervous of other dogs (and there were dogs at almost every table when we went) but the staff made us feel very welcomed and let us choose a good place to sit to suit her, and actually it all was totally fine, which I'm sure probably does have something to do with the nice atmosphere here. I wish we hadn't been so full from our mains because the desserts sounded very tasty. Maybe another time. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area!”

Barnard's Restaurant

“If you're in search of a breakfast spot that marries exceptional food with outstanding service, look no further than Barnard's Restaurant in Denmead, Hampshire. Having had the pleasure of dining here twice for breakfast, I can confidently say that this quaint eatery is a hidden gem that deserves a visit. Barnard's is open from Tuesday to Saturday, and the only drawback is that it's not open all week! The anticipation of those five days of exquisite breakfasts is well worth the wait. The food here is simply outstanding. From the moment you take your first bite, you know you're in for a treat. One of my personal favourites is their scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on toast. The eggs are cooked to perfection – creamy, fluffy, and rich in flavour, complemented beautifully by the delicate smokiness of the salmon. Topped with a sprinkle of fresh greens, this dish is not only a feast for the palate but also a delight for the eyes. Another standout dish is their Eggs Benedict. Perfectly poached eggs, crispy bacon, and a generous helping of hollandaise sauce, all served on a toasted English muffin – it’s a classic done right. The sauce is velvety and rich, the bacon adds a wonderful crunch, and the eggs are cooked just right, with a runny yolk that ties all the flavours together. The service at Barnard's is nothing short of excellent. The staff are attentive, friendly, and go out of their way to ensure that your dining experience is flawless. They have mastered the balance of being present without being intrusive, making sure your coffee is always topped up and your needs are met with a smile. In conclusion, Barnard's Restaurant in Denmead is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates quality food and top-notch service. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, make sure to stop by for breakfast – you won't be disappointed. We can only hope they extend their opening days soon because once you’ve experienced Barnard’s, you’ll find yourself craving it every day of the week!”

“Friday lunch time visit for us, table booked in advance good job because it got very busy. My wife ordered the steak and ale pie/creamy mash potato for me was the sirloin steak/chips and father-in-law cod n chips and our niece smaller one plate ham egg and chips. The pie had lovely pastry with large tender "chunks" of steak and creamy mash surrounded with cabbage and carrots topped off with gravy my wife's overall opinion was "delicious". For me I had the steak n chips £23 so I was expecting a tasty piece of beef cooked to my liking and I wasn't disappointed it was perfect say no more... The cod n chips got a thumbs up from my father-in-law and our little one enjoyed her ham/egg/chips. Good service from the very busy waitress staff, we will return.”

“Visited on a Monday lunchtime alone and stayed for dinner and dessert. Place is much smarter than I remember on previous visit many years ago. Clean and tidy ( including toilets ) with excellent service, attentive well presented staff but not imposing. Food itself was great...''Pie of the day' with delightful cheesecake to follow ( only crticism was raspberry glazed top added nice colour but little taste ) Whatever keen to make positive recommendation. Food above average standard and nicely plated ( see pics). Prices acceptable. Would happily dine again x”

The Forest of Bere

“Amazingly, in one week I've discovered 2 truly genuine old style British pubs. The Forest of Bere is the second one. Wonderful old world charm, superb choice of drinks...and although on this visit I only sampled the Abbott's, the menu looked both good and well priced. Staff were very friendly...has sports channels and is currently showing The Six Nations. Well worth a visit...and it's on a bus route should you have that option. I'll definitely be back again.”
