“I recently had the pleasure of dining at this stunning venue with my family, and it truly exceeded all expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by a beautifully lit garden that set the tone for the evening. The restaurant itself had a lovely, warm atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making me feel welcome from the start. The food was absolutely amazing. I started with the Pork with apple sauce and Yorkshire pudding, which was cooked to perfection — tender and full of flavour. For dessert, I enjoyed the apple crumble, which was the perfect end to the meal. Overall, the experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. The combination of great food, friendly service, and a beautiful venue made it a night to remember. Will be returning for sure!!”

“The place has been under new ownership recently (September 2024), my wife and I had a meal there saturday night. It was a really nice atmosphere with some people dining, some in for drinks and others working on their laptops. The main menu is fish based so we have hake and sea bass, but there are 3 boards that go with it very nicely (cheese, meats and bruschetta). All reasonably priced, would definately recommend.”

“I had a truly lovely meal here followed by a luxurious and peaceful nights sleep on the Hayloft. I couldn't have asked for more. The service was excellent, the room was cosy and very restful. The food was all excellent and I clearly need to stay there more often as the menu was extensive. Thank you for a very memorable evening”

“Nice food, service, beer and cider, toilets and atmosphere. What more can you ask for! I was a bit greedy and couldn't finish the ciabatta bread I'd ordered as a side to accompany fish and chips, so I asked for a doggy bag to take it home. They wrapped it up nicely in foil, so I was able to finish and enjoy it later. PS plus it's 25% off food on Wednesday with the Butcombe loyalty card. Great stuff!”

“The place is beautiful and super cozy. The service was great. The price absolutely fair. The list of mains in the menu was perhaps a bit too short, but once we got what we ordered we understood why, each single dish was excellent. The chicken, mushroom and tarragon pie is among the best pies, if not the very best, that I had in my 12 years in UK. 5 stars simply because I cannot give 6”

“There were a couple of vegan options on the lunch menu, so we ordered those with some chips as a starter. The only thing close to a vegan starter they had was focaccia bread with butter and olives. No non-dairy butter or hummus was available according to the person who took our order, so we passed on that. Mushroom risotto and curry were both nice enough; very rich, so not the perfect thing for a light lunch on a hot, muggy day, but there you have it. Chips were good, as was the cider. There was one other table near us occupied, and we had trouble hearing each other over their conversation. It must be deafening when the place is busy. All the walls, floors, and furnishings are hard; nothing to absorb sound, so it just reflects around. Some rugs or tapestries would help with that. Prices were plenty high; two dishes, no dessert, and just tap water and a pint of cider each to drink, and it was over £50. I suppose they're used to having a captive audience since they're the only dining option within walking distance of the canal in the area and are across the street from the cricket pitch.”
