A fabulous hidden gem in central Winchester. The architecture has a wonderful ye olde England feel - lots of dark wood and leather, but at the same time light and airy spaces. The food was simply delicious. Top quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Well priced wines. Really pleasant staff who clearly want you to have a great experience. A top notch venue.

Well where do I begin with our wonderful dinner? Beautiful food, the most delicious bottle of wine we've ever enjoyed, gorgeous, cosy surroundings, and friendly service from welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable staff. We were given a little anniversary surprise making our visit even more unforgettable. We shall be back.

Went here with wife and a couple of friends. Food was lovely as was the wine. Cocktails were also good. We did however have a 45 minute wait for a table that was booked weeks in advance and the service while waiting was pretty poor, which did take the edge off the overall experience. Did add a couple of photos of the food but I'd already started eating before taking photos because we were that hungry from the wait 😂

Lovely decor and the staff were friendly. A shout out to the toilets for being stylish and very clean. Food wise, the starters were delicious, squid and arancini are definitely recommended but the mains left a little to be desired. However, the chocolate / celebratory bombe on the other hand was amazing and the staff even wrote us a sweet message. I'd go again to try other food from the menu and would try the afternoon tea or the cocktails. 4.5/5 + £££

The Ivy is a great place to eat with unusual food on offer. I had whisky barrel smoked venison tartare to start and goose, turkey, and duck shepherd's pie for my main. The staff were very attentive. My only complaint is the acoustics are very poor and we had to shout across the table in order to have a conversation. It is a popular place as it was packed on a Monday evening a week before Christmas.

One word; Amazing 👏 I ordered the roast and I was always sceptical because I love the old pub but was pleasantly surprised my only gripe was as i was eating I saw someone get the beef 😋 and got food envy 😅 nevertheless the roast was succulent, potatoes crisped to perfection and everything was moist and super tasty. Don't get me on the desserts. I could sit there and eat them all day. Sticky toffee pudding 🍮 is intense flavour on the mouth

Absolutely fabulous place. Staff exceptionally attentive. Food excellent. Exceeded our expectation. Great atmosphere. A celebration of my 80th Birthday. Champagne Hi Tea.. Even provided small cake with candle beautifully decorated.Will definately come back again. Not not just for an occasion. A lasting memory.

We came here for bottomless brunch. The food was amazing and the drinks were really good. Would recommend the candyfloss gin and tonic. Rosie looked after us and made sure we were always topped up. Would definitely recommend.

Had a festive brunch with the ladies at the Stable Winchester, place is easy to find and was quite hectic. Second floor was quite nice and homey but not too keen on seeing the manager standing right in front of the kitchen staff looking rather stressed the entire time we were there. Rest of the staff were quite attentive and very friendly. Could do with more cocktail options and better mocktails.

We tried the Christmas special- festive full monty and the pig on pillow. The pizza is nice and the crust is crunchy. There are different type of cider as well.

Popped in with my daughter on Wednesday and we both had pizzas. Having been to Italy this year, I can say hands down that these were on a par with the pizzas we had there. Super tasty, amazing bases and just delicious. Really lovely friendly staff. All perfect.

Came here on a Friday late lunch after enjoying a day in Winchester. They offer some good 2 and 3 course deals, but we had our heart set on the chateaubriand steak. We ordered this and the baguette with dips to enjoy while waiting for the steak to be cooked. The place is very spacious and nicely laid out, with an open plan kitchen upstairs. Staff here are very good. Our meal was very good paired with a good red wine as well. The only criticism is the mark up on the wine. But this is something that happens everywhere. Overall a brilliant late lunch here🙂

Elegant! Lovely decor, wonderful service, delicious food and a great wine list. We went as a group of 4 for a 2/3 course lunch and there was nothing to fault. It was our first time dining there and we will certainly be back. It was great to have some seasonal game choices on the menu.

Had a Sunday roast. Yorkshire puddings and roast beef were very good. No gravy with meal or horse radish. Had to ask for gravy and horseradish. Vegetables were very bland and uninspiring. Main course took around 25 mins to arrive. Sat by window which was quite chilly. Starter and dessert very good.

Rather noisy, but that's the way of most restaurants these days. Service excellent. Food very good, although carrot 🥕 too soft. Dessert was slightly disappointing as the description said, "Autumn Still Life", and was just like a painting on the plate with not much to eat.

Had a lovely meal at The Old Forge last night with family. Food was great all really well prepared and great flavours. We all a great time. Service was excellent from Rosie who was very kind and had a laugh with us. Starters was a 3 for £15 of small plates and a bread board. Beef croquettes wear super flavourful and the sweet potato hummus was amazing. Chicken burger in my picture was very juicy and the chili Jam and coleslaw inside tasted great. Trio of deserts was shared between three portions were bigger than we expected and was presented really well. It's on the more expensive side for a pub but food is definitely worth it.

Great food, lovely staff and a really nice atmosphere. We had the roast to share which came with half a chicken, beef and pork belly which was very tasty and plenty of food to share. The desserts were delicious too

I live local but had never heard of the old forge before. I came here for my Christmas work do and I loved it. Had such a festive vibe. The food was amazing along with the service. I have recommended to family and friends since then and today visited again. Again the food, service and atmosphere fabulous. They do not rush you between courses either like some places do. I recommend the scallops and the pork belly. I definitely will be coming again.

Perfectly cooked food, perfect atmosphere.. We've been dining here for 30 years plus and it is our favourite venue to relax, unwind and enjoy..always great food.. We will continue our visits.. We had a delicious Sunday meal here. Slow roast rib of beef and vegetables. Seasonal fruits crumble to follow. Unfortunately, we had eaten too much already. So we were allowed to take it away with us to enjoy later. The staff were very polite and friendly. And we are looking forward to a return visit very soon🤞. Thank you💐

I stopped off here with little dog to break up the journey, extremely dog friendly, great selection of no alcohol beers including Guinness. Very quaint and old pub with lots of spaces and friendly staff. I was in between meals so only wanted a snack; the mini steak and ale pie was delicious and the mini cottage brochettes out of this world !!

This place is absolutely stunning. It's such a warming vibe as soon as you walk in. Dwayne was such an amazing host to our visit; his knowledge was an unexpected bonus, to say the least. The food was just incredible, too. Cannot fault a single thing. Will be coming here everything I'm back from London

We are staying for the weekend locally and was recommended here from our host. Called for a last minute booking and although fully booked they manage to get us a table in the conservatory. What a quaint space and perfect for us with Christmas decor and low Christmas music playing. Serving mulled wine as well. My party had bangers and mash, paneer wrap, pie of the day (proper pie fully encased with Turkey, ham and leek) and Lamb with dauphinois potatoes. Our plates said it all as they were all cleaned up. Two of us decided to have the lemon cheesecake for desserts and it’s one of the best cheesecakes we’ve had. Food was delicious and nice portion sizes. Highly recommend and will return when we return to Winchester. Enjoy 😊

What a place. Always walked past and never gone in, but it's stunning. Beautiful building with a beautiful inside. I could have had the chorizo scotch egg for starter, main and dessert it was out of this world and beautifully presented. Didn't stay there just visited for food.

Called in for pre dinner drink. Lovely staff and a really cosy bar area. Good choice of gins and love they recommend pairing mixers. Great selection on all other drinks.

A favourite place of mine & my husband's. Always fantastic food, lovely atmosphere & great service. They use local produce including sparkling wine.

We had a lovely breakfast here. The service was very good as always, friendly and attentive. We weren’t waiting long for our food and drinks and we thoroughly enjoyed it all. High quality food and service.

Had a lovely lunch here. Food was very good and service great. We were overcharged and ended up with 2 more bottles of wine on our bill. Didn't notice till later that day. We called the restaurant and the following day the manager sorted our refund. The waiter accidently put someone else's wine on our bill. Mistakes happen. And we should have check our bill before paying. The main thing was they did refund us the money without any problem. Definitely would recommend this place.

The food was good, but not excellent. There were some mistakes made with the orders but they were rectified. There was a good deal of a 2 course meal for £17.95. It's a nice place for a quick bite with friends.

Nice restaurant with good food, service can be slow at peak times and the food could be better for the price, but still a solid spot! Desserts are a highlight.

Lovely visit after a dog walk. Nothing was too much trouble for the team, even helping us secure a 10% discount by signing up to their app. Food was very good and everyone left feeling satisfied. Good selection of ales and wine. You can really spoil yourself at this place. A Hidden Gem in Otterbourne I had a meeting at a lovely spot in Otterbourne, Hampshire, and from the moment I arrived, I could tell this was a refined place. The elegant chandeliers with candles and the interesting selection of cars parked outside hinted at its charm. As I stepped inside, I was greeted by a beautifully arranged display of candles, candle holders, artisanal mugs, and boxes of sweet treats. It felt like walking through a boutique, and to the left, there was an inviting little shop with colorful, eye-catching items that made me pause and browse. Moving further in, I found an intimate room with a cozy fireplace and comfortable armchairs—an ideal setting to lose track of time. The space had different sections, each with its own character, including a low-ceilinged area leading to the café. At the café, a stunning display of round cakes caught my eye, and my daughter immediately chose the carrot cake. The counter also featured beautifully dried fruits—slices of oranges, lemons, and limes adding to the charm. I ordered a herbal blueberry tea, served in a Japanese-style metal teapot with a terracotta orange cup that perfectly complemented the deep color of my tea. To my delight, there was a cabinet filled with books and board games. Later, we ended up playing several rounds of Mikado, something I hadn’t done in years—it was such a wonderful surprise! I would highly recommend this place for meetings or gatherings in the Chandler’s Ford and Otterbourne areas. A truly special spot worth visiting!
