Absolutely beautiful and well preserved castle, either if you're a Downton Abbey fan or an English history enthusiast. The Egyptian exhibition is a must-see and strolling around the gardens is a quiet and introspective experience.

I want to thank the owners of this place for letting the public in. You pay for the tickets which are not cheap. But the grounds are beyond wonderful. It's so quiet, and you can really get lost in aww here. There are no pictures once u go in but if your a fan of the show you kinda feel like am I really here?. I'm from ca and if it wasn't such a long flight I'd so go back way more.cheers

If you’re a Downton Abbey fan (or just love a good stately home), Highclere Castle is an absolute must-visit! 🏰 We had the pleasure of doing a private tour, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From the jaw-dropping grand rooms to the hidden corridors steeped in history, every inch of Highclere oozes elegance. No wonder Julian Fellowes had it in mind when creating Downton Abbey! 🎩✨ Even beyond its TV fame, Highclere has a rich history dating back to 1679, and let’s not forget its Egyptian connection—the 5th Earl of Carnarvon co-discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922! 🏺🏡 Who knew a slice of Egypt was hiding in the English countryside? 📸 Unfortunately, no photos were allowed inside, but trust me, the interiors are as grand as they look on TV. Thankfully, the stunning exterior, sprawling gardens, and breathtaking views more than made up for it—and I snapped plenty of those! We were also incredibly lucky with the glorious sunshine ☀️—the warmest day of the year so far! The cherry on top? Afternoon tea in the gardens 🍰🫖, feeling like proper aristocrats (or at least pretending we were for an hour!). This visit was also particularly poignant as we remember the late, great Dame Maggie Smith, whose performance as the Dowager Countess defined Downton Abbey. No one could deliver a withering remark quite like her, and walking through the halls where she ruled the screen was truly special. With the newest Downton Abbey movie arriving this September, this was the perfect taster! Beautiful castle famous for being the filmset of Downton Abbey. I recommend to take a tour through the castle and also to explore the beautiful gardens around it by foot. The cedar trees surrounding the caste are amazing and also the herb garden is worth a visit.
