“Absolutely loved our stay here. This was the perfect place for our young family to explore the New Forest and was always a nice warm welcome back to at the end of each day out and about. The food is excellent (both adults and children’s menu) and the cosy pub with its open fires and great beers was the perfect place to relax after an eventful day exploring. We stayed in room 1 which overlooked the green so our daughter was able to watch the horses grazing and had plenty of room for us all. Thank you for having us and can’t wait to stay again.”

“We absolutely loved our one night stay at Lime Wood, celebrating my wife's 40th Birthday! We had very high expectations but they were exceeded! The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, including the lady who checked us in and the fantastic sommelier in training. The spa was very relaxing and varied enough not to get bored. The best part was the quality of the food. The breakfast is up there with the best we've had at hotels, and the restaurant was absolutely superb, one of our favourite meals of this year. We can't wait to return!”

“Outstanding! 3 nights solo B&B. Room on the south-east side, so cool in the afternoon / evening with windows open during very hot weather. Room 5. Well-planned use of space in both the bed and shower rooms. Super shower. TV, unused. Comfy bed. Courtesy tray of tea / coffee. Excellent range of food in the continental (weekday) buffet breakfast taken in the well-appointed Bistro restaurant (0730 - 0900). Happy to commend.”

“This place never disappoints, we have worked our way through the menu twice and will keep going back. There is ample outdoor seating and a small amount of cosy indoor seating with log fires. The portions are good and everything is fresh and local. There is a good selection for kids but nothing deep-fried, so be cautious if taking a picky child. The beer selection is outstanding, lots of local beers in rotation. Staff are always friendly and the service is really good. If the weather is nice it will be busy, so go early or a little after lunchtime as they are so popular they don't take reservations. There's a good amount of parking around and there are great walks in the immediate area the walk of lunch. They are dog friendly as you would expect, I couldn't recommend this place enough.”

“Food was excellent, very delicious and the pork and lamb was cooked well (not chewy at all). The portions were a good size and well presented. It is quite expensive but you can opt for 2 courses for £25.50 or 3 courses for £29.95. The only problem we experienced was bad service. Firstly we rang up to book, they said they open from 6pm so we decided to book for 6:30pm. However we arrived 20 mins early and thought it would be ok. But the old French man greeted us very coldly and said they are not ready so can we sit outside. His tone was very stern and was not welcoming at all. I had a look inside and all the tables were made up and looked ready so I was confused why he said our table wasn't ready. A few mins later an elderly couple came (who were also early for their booking) and got seated inside straight away and were greeted in a more friendly and polite manner. Anyway we had our drinks outside and then ordered, and eventually got seated inside. We were disappointed when we saw the menu as we came especially for the frogs legs and snails but they weren't on. When we asked the lady she said they hadn't had frogs legs on the menu for 6 months and they forgot to put snails on the menu. They should really update their menu online as this was misleading!! For the whole duration of our meal, I noticed the old French man had not asked us how our meal was but asked another couple as soon as they had been served. And when the bill came, he was cheeky enough to include the service charge, even though on the menu it specifically says the charge is only for parties of 6 and over, and we were a party of 4. As we were the only people of colour in the restaurant, I can only assume the old French man was being racist towards us from his differing nature towards us and the other 'white' customers and found this extremely rude and upsetting!! I hope the old French man reads this review and realises how bad his customer service was and changes his manner and attitude to be friendly and welcoming to all kinds of people!!”

The Pig

Phone: 01590 622354
“Having booked to stay nearby we thought we would explore a different Pig, as our local one is in Coombe. We just wanted to let you know what exceptional and friendly service we received from Jack, our waiter. It really was refreshing to be served by someone who clearly enjoys his job so thank you very much. The restaurant is beautiful and we had a wonderful lunch, by far the best gnocchi we have ever had. It was so utterly delicious we ordered another one to share!”

“Great location on the way to Bolderwood deer viewpoint. The food here is always 10/10. We had the homemade pie on this visit and in my husbands words ‘it was the best pie he has ever eaten’! All staff extremely friendly, a special mention to Kayleigh and the chefs very considerate of my food allergy. We are looking forward to our next visit and would highly recommend if you are looking for a friendly place to eat that serves great wholesome food.”

“This is an excellent country pub near the road so it is easy to find and it has a great car park behind. The bear garden is pretty and big, on Friday they play music and it has a great ambience. We booked a table for Saturday night and everything was good, from the service to the food. We had a grill night and specials to choose from and we all decided to have fish and chips at the end. The portions were perfect and the waitress offered a very good service. It is a recommended visit.”
