âThe best restaurant in Winchester. Winchester is lovely to live in but the one thing we miss since leaving London is dining out. Sergio's skill combined with his choice to fresh high quality ingredients is a marked contrast to Winchesters chain and fast food places. We moved here 2 years ago and only just discovered La Gastronomia as it was hidden on Google maps. The atmosphere and decor is spot on too. A little bit of Italy without the hassle of queuing in the airport!â

âFood is DELICIOUS - we went on a Saturday for lunch, and the vegan options did not disappoint. Generous portions and original ingredients. Loved by Don Bourguignon pie. The Not Dog pie is also great. Amazing decor for fans of video games / movies / series. Toilets are Star Wars themed. They have old video games available to play too! Couple of suggestions: Cleanliness - high chair for our child was really dirty, we had to use several baby wipes before we could sit him down in it. Waiters completely ignored him too (which seems to be very common in the UK... but children are people too!) Lots of great paraphernalia but a lot of it looks pretty dusty/dirty! Otherwise, we will be back to try the rest of the menu, thank you đâ

âWe popped in for a late lunch, the staff were very accommodating found as a table. The service was very prompt, and the food came out very quickly. There are a large number of options on the menu, and we decided to have the mixed Mezze. We will have added on some lamb meatballs with pistachios. The food was very delicious, and we really enjoyed the fact that they served all the dishes on different plates. Looking forward to our next visit and trying some different dishes.â

âIf we could give this pub 5 stars plus then we would!! Found this pub on google search whilst on a visit my family. We all decided to give it a go after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, every course perfectly cooked, very flavorsome, and well presented, absolute top compliments to the chef. The service was very good, our food arrived in a timely manner and was served with a smile, it was a great experience and we would highly recommend.........we are definitely going to come back when next in Winchester. Fabulous experience.â

âWent here with wife and a couple of friends. Food was lovely as was the wine. Cocktails were also good. We did however have a 45 minute wait for a table that was booked weeks in advance and the service while waiting was pretty poor, which did take the edge off the overall experience. Did add a couple of photos of the food but I'd already started eating before taking photos because we were that hungry from the wait đâ

âA Taste of Japan in Winchester â Kyoto Kitchen I had heard about Kyoto Kitchen, and while I was in the area, I thought it would be a great opportunity to check it out! My daughter and I managed to book a table on the same day, which was relatively easy despite not being locals. Entering through the hotel, we passed by the bar area before stepping into the main dining space. The atmosphere was both summery and refined, with a unique layout. There was only one central pathway, giving the impression of entering a grand hall, almost like a castle. The tables were arranged on either side, and at the heart of the room stood a striking center pieceâa large kimono - its presence commanding attention like a king in a courtroom. To my surprise, there was another dining area designed in the style of a traditional Japanese sushi bar, where guests could watch the chefs prepare fresh sushi. The delicate fabric dividers between the rooms reminded me of Japan, adding to the authenticity of the experience. I was seated in the banquet area, opposite a stunning vegetable art display spanning the entire wall. It created an incredible blend of indoor and outdoor elements, stimulating the senses in an unexpected way. For my meal, I ordered the Winchester Sushi Rolls, as recommended by the waiter. This dish featured fresh salmon, mango, cucumber, and seaweed, topped with goji berries and a horseradish sauce. The combination was delicate yet flavorfulârefreshing with a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. I also had Wagyu Gyoza, garnished with edible flowers, which was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. The service was excellent, and the entire experience truly transported me to Japan. Winchester is fortunate to have such a gem of a restaurant, and I hope they continue to support their talented chefs. This is a must-visit for sushi lovers and anyone looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience.â

âNew Yearâs Eve luncheon for 7 persons. Weâre able to get a table booking despite leaving it to 24-hrs in advance. Lovely historic pub. Friendly and attentive table service in the dining area (there are a couple of different dining areas in this large pub.) For visitors to Winchester and its cathedral this is a recommended venue. Good kitchen and well prepared hearty winter dishes. David W, Dec 2024â

Porterhouse Steakhouse

âWe visited the Porterhouse for our mother's 80th birthday and had a brilliant meal. The staff and management couldn't have been more helpful and attentive, including setting up balloons and organising the birthday cake (which we were permitted to provide ourselves with no issue that it would mean no dessert orders!). The steaks were perfectly cooked, starters and sides all great (probably the best Steak Tartare I've ever had) and the chips were insanely crispy! Easily the best place to eat Steak in Winchester.â

âHad a festive brunch with the ladies at the Stable Winchester, place is easy to find and was quite hectic. Second floor was quite nice and homey but not too keen on seeing the manager standing right in front of the kitchen staff looking rather stressed the entire time we were there. Rest of the staff were quite attentive and very friendly. Could do with more cocktail options and better mocktails.â
