I went here for breakfast and the food was amazing and nice and hot for it being a buffet. The price was really good as well it was £7.49 for an all you could eat breakfast buffet that is good value when you compare it to a cafe where you would pay that for a full English alone. The staff were super friendly and got us sat down very quickly with drinks when we arrived. The buffet had a good range of different breakfast items definitely something for everyone here. Parking was also really good with them having a massive car park so plenty of space

Came to the Alma for dinner. Ben at the bar gave excellent service, very polite and friendly, made me feel very welcome. Gabi, who gave excellent service, made sure we had eve thing we needed and cleared our table quickly, was very welcoming. Courtney who made my burger made it to PERFECTION!!! And my brownie was absolutely delicious! I will definitely be coming back

Lovely and welcoming from Ben on our 1st visit to the Alma, he took the time to explain everything to us and immediately made us feel calm and in the know. We heard great things and it did not disappoint! Will definitely be coming back.

Staff were great, especially as one of our party had a number of intolerance, they were very careful to check everything with her. We all enjoyed the food, which we all felt was good value and tasty too. It was quite quiet, but that was a bonus in terms of getting served quickly. Will definitely be back. Big thanks to the staff for their efforts.

We visited Saturday 2 weeks ago, and we've been a few times, so we know we'll always have great food there. We didn't book, but they are always accommodating. First time I've had a pudding, and the chocolate tart was amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful, a great pub and spacious, so you're not sitting on top of each other.

Beautiful pub with a nice menu. Service and staff were really friendly. My only minor markdown was the fact that I asked for a medium steak and it was charred and well done. As I had travelled 2 and a half hours for a business lunch, I didn't have the time to wait for another and didn't want to make my client wait. Everything else was perfect.

I have been here many times and the food is always excellent. Never had any complaints about the quality or taste. The staff are friendly. The place feels warm and well decorated too. Would definitely recommend for a nice meal out, whether it’s a couple or a group of people.

We were on a short break in the Botley area. We decided to go for dinner at the Railway Inn. You always take a gamble when you dine in an unfamiliar area. Going on reviews we usually take them with a pinch of salt. I am glad to say we had a great meal! The food was superb! My wife and three children all enjoyed their starters and mains. It is unusual that we are all delighted with our meals. The service was great too. I would highly recommend!

A lovely late lunch today, nothing was too much trouble and service was fantastic from a really great young man. Such a warm welcome, served at our table. I loved the atmosphere. Such a friendly place! Would not hesitate to visit again on a Sunday for a roast. It would be so worth the hours journey. Thankyou for making our visit to Bishops Waltham such a great one!

Beer garden is nice to sit in on a sunny weekend. Food is tasty and portion sizes are good. Prices are on the higher side but no different to similar pubs.

Sunday lunch with family. Warm welcome at the Barleycorn, friendly staff… and dog 🐶 friendly. Proper straightforward tasty Sunday roasts for most of us….. very tasty and very generous helpings… piping hot and plenty of gravy. Choice of sweets and coffees to finish off. Very good value for money, strongly recommend, booking essential. We’ll be back…. for the crumble and custard 👍👏👌😊.

Had a night's stay here. Lovely location! Staff were friendly and helpful. Leisure facilities were just right( although warm could of done with being a bit warmer) A lovely touch leaving a gift for our pooch in the room 🙂. The main house was very impressive. It is just a shame we didn't feel that way about the breakfast service. We had to sit in the bar due to having a dog with us, fare enough. But had to make several trips to get our breakfasts as the whole service was very hit and miss. Having to wait for plates, mugs and food to be Replenished. I was looking to make mugs to make tea unaware the tea and fresh coffee were bought to the table ( wasn't told this on arrival) . It's a shame some juice or bottles of water are not left in the bar as you are sat away from the servery. It was quite noticeable there was alot of staff yet it was lacking attention to detail. Not even salt and pepper on the tables. Rightly we were sat away from the restaurant due to having a dog with us. But we should of still felt like the experience is the same. It's like being sat in the cheap seats.

Wonderful Xmas stay staff cannot do enough for you, lots of surprises Santa visit gift and a lovely hamper in our room on arrival.Really lovely touch. Location is great some nice walks. Our Christmas package was fantastic great food ! My only criticism would be the staff are too accommodating to guests which meant some things did not go to plan due to this. But! We had a fantastic time carol's Christmas eve with lots of nice touches.. time for swimming on Christmas morning was great. I would definitely recommend the hotel the rooms are large bathrooms are large all lovely done.

We stayed here over the weekend - had the dinner, bed and breakfast deal for 2 nights, paid more for a superior room upgrade which we wanted instead of the standard room. The dinner is a 3 course meal each night - the food was very good and well presented, the dining room/bar and gardens are really nice settings. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the dinner service is quite slow ! Overall the package was very good value for money if you want a short break, though the bar prices are very steep ! - spent around £80.00 on 3 drinks each. The room was clean and spacious - only issue was you could here alot of noise from the room above - the floor boards and lack of sound proofing made it sound like a heard of elephants were walking above us, shame as paid more for a better room.

First time here, and loved the old fashioned quaintness , with the fireplaces dark wood and similar atmosphere. Good selection of drinks and ales. Staff were friendly and explained the history of the Inn.

This was a meal for 14. The staff were very welcoming. They made it easy for us to split the bill into 3 units. Food arrived promptly, well presented & good quality. A very nice evening had by everyone. Full marks to The Old Ship crew.

We fancied some good homemade pub food and we were not disappointed. Often pubs have homecooked on the menu but homemade is harder to find. There was a good selection of specials on the board on top of a pleasing selection of staple pub classics in the menu. The food was very good, piping hot and the portions were generous. The bar area was cosy, comfortable and had a good selection of beers, wines, etc, as you'd hope. What I like about the Old Ship is the querky mix of open seating at ground level and the inviting central bar that faces stairs that take you down to the even more cosy and low ceilinged seated area below. Sometimes the open fire is on and it brings a lovely warmth to this old tavern. It has a friendly feel to the place and is more traditionally presented which I love. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar which is fine but I think the staff that were delivering food could be a bit more attentive and proactive. Also the seat my wife sat on was filthy... perhaps from dogs? Otherwise we really enjoyed it and will definitely be back soon.

Sunday roasts are reasonably priced and come plated on their pizza plates (which are huge) so great value and quality. The beer was good and the food was delivered incredibly quickly. The pub is well presented and despite (me) messing up my booking, the friendly staff found us a table. Nice to have a civilised meal where even the dog is welcome!

Really Nice pie steak was so tender just melts in your mouth and Never seen Mash in a side dish but was nice. Staff was Really friendly and welcoming especially the Girls. Mu uncle Ribs Looks great and has nice bit to it. Recommend the pizza as Looks fresh and nice Dough to it would happy to come again.

Sam recently saved the day & managed to accommodate my baby shower after another place cancelled on me! We hired out the marquee which was the perfect space & we enjoyed the stone baked pizzas & sandwich selection boards. Service was amazing & the support from staff with setting up & cleaning up was brilliant. Thank you so much to The Lapstone who made it so special and smooth.

Early evening Christmas meal for four people. Meals pre ordered from the Christmas menu First visit visit organised by our friend.. A lively pub, nicely decorated and a good atmosphere. Kitchen on view which we liked. All staff gave us excellent service. The three courses we had were very nice. Hot food was HOT and well cooked and very enjoyable. Would recommend a visit, we will be returning.

Staff friendly. The main meal wasn't the best. Processed turkey. Brussels hard and roast potatoes undercooked. The bread & butter pudding is extremely tasty. Won't let that put me off coming back tho. That's my opinion.

Stayed for a Saturday night in February 2025. Excellent. Newly refurbished with wow factor, still remaining true to its heritage. Room was great, bar, service and breakfast all excellent. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful old building, Bar and bedroom areas very clean. Staff on hand to help with any questions and very friendly. We feel very comfortable and our four legged family member ( Lenny) very welcome . look after with fresh water bowl place in bar area for them. Dogs allowed in bar area for you to have evening meals and Breakfast. Thank you for a lovely two day break.Meals all very high quality .

I visit Ashton Moss quite a bit and have walked past this fine establishment many times. I am gutted I didn't visit here sooner. Instantly, we were welcomed inside by the staff, who were absolutely joyous and a pleasure to chat with. They were very understanding, talkative, and made great efforts to ensure that we were satisfied with our experience here. The overall atmosphere was gorgeous, to say the least. The place was filled with joy and well-thought-out decoration and excellent cleanliness. However, the absolute best part of our experience was the food. The taste, texture, and presentation of the food made me ascend to a whole other realm. In fact, the food was so good that I just had to meet and thank the chef that made it. I asked if this was possible and the waiter was super enthusiastic, understanding, and quickly brought the chef out to our table. The chef was a bright, joyous young man who had the most beautiful smile and is certainly going places in life. His name was Connor, and if you see this, I thank you so much for the incredible experience here and for making my entire year. I will definitely be returning more often, and I also want to thank the other staff, who were equally amazing!

Lovely lunch date at Bella Italia today. Charlie and Annie looked after us really well (alongside their robot waitress!) Food was tasty and atmosphere was great.

Great value with the meal deal and there was a good selection to choose from. Friendly staff and delicious food.

Luke and Gustavo really looked after us today, despite being short staffed and run off their feet. They made our visit really pleasant, they were super helpful and attentive, even after having to deal with some rather rude patrons. We will definitely be back, thanks so much guys
