The Best Restaurants in Upminster, Greater London, United Kingdom (2025)

TLDR; best food in the area, don’t hesitate to visit! We visited to stay a few months back when they had the previous chef and frankly I had very few positive things to say. However, against all odds and with a new chef I can honestly say this is one of the best restaurants in the area for miles. We’ve been in for the lunch menu where we had a wonderful, no nonsense, steak frites, and today the Sunday roast. The starters and small plates are excellent & reasonably priced. The roast however… is to die for. It’s absolutely up there with the best of London restaurants, everything cooked to perfection, and made with genuine care. The specials and deserts are also really creative and mouth-wateringly good. I cannot recommend coming here enough. If you’ve been before and wasn’t overly impressed, try again because the food is now very special. The service has also improved considerably. These are the sort of places we need to support.

Have eaten here several times in the last few weeks withy partner, their mother, and my friends visiting from Germany and we all agree this is the best restaurant in Hornchurch! And better still it's only a short walk from our favourite pub!

We booked Stay for their amazing express lunch menu. Priced at only £24 for two courses (£30 for three) this represented great value in this newly opened restaurant. I chose the king prawn cocktail for the starter and the battered cod with home fried chips for main. Both were amazing, with huge portion sizes. The prawn cocktail tasted absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it - great value for the price! My partner chose the butternut squash soup and loved it. Her main dish of baked cauliflower was so tasty, plenty of it and with a lovely accompaniment of crushed potatoes and chimmichuri. Service was excellent and very attentive. Great ambience with upmarket decor and top notch furnishings. We loved it and will definitely visit again. We wish this new independent restaurant the very best and hope it becomes well established during 2024

A great Mexican place- would definitely recommend! We thought the food here was great and the atmosphere was buzzing. The fajitas were tasty and just the right portion size, and the tacos were also delicious. They had a wide variety of drinks, including lots of brands of tequila. The staff were nice and while it took awhile to get our bill at the end, this was completely understandable given how busy it was. Would definitely recommend that you pre-book as it was packed!

Went there in a group of 4adults & 1kid. Very generous portion size for kids menu. We ordered few staters like Jalapeños bites, spring rolls and flaming mushrooms, all were amazing. Their main course was delicious too, we ordered Penne Arrabbiata, Veg-Chill Burrito & Veg chilli Enchilada, all were amazing.

We had large family booking and we were really well looked after by all staff! Excellent service and very friendly. Restaurant is beautiful lots of lovely artwork. Food was really tasty and big portions. Everyone very happy and will certainly be returning in the future. Thank you ☺️

What a lovely venue. The sun was out for us, the food looked and tasted superb and we had a wide range to choose from. The service was excellent from the moment we walked up to the front entrance and I knew straightaway we would had a great time for my mum's birthday brunch. The waiter also served us a nice surprise with a birthday dessert, which was a lovely touch. I highly recommend and we'll defintely be returning. 10/10 from me

First time here which was very overdue as heard positive things about this place and been wanting to try it out for myself. I was very impressed with the food, amazing food, very tasty and generous portion sizes. No issues with the service of staff however the service charge added to the bill was very hefty and it more expensive that expected!

I've been here couple of time and always come back. I've tried their pancakes which is incredibly fresh with fruits. The design is way too much as well, I had the eggs benedict which waa amazing and this time I tried the salmon which was awesome. Welcoming staff, great atmosphere.

As a Turkish girlie I had very good experience! We went for a brunch and the food was amazing. Definitely recommend to have frozen strawberry daiquiri!

Sorrento Upminster This was surprisingly our first visit to Sorrento which is a long and well established Italian restaurant in Upminster , Essex. The reviews that we’d seen have been mostly good so we thought it was about time to see for ourselves. We decided to go for an early evening dinner on saturday and due to being fully booked were given a time for the table to be returned which for us was fine. We arrived and was given a friendly welcome before being asked where we’d like to be seated. We chose a table next to the bar which gave us a great view of the restaurant. The rustic feel of the restaurant does remind you of the old days but the nice thing is that you do think you are in a little village in Italy. The staff were very friendly and just like the Italian way are constantly chatting to each other. We started with a drink while we looked at the extensive menu as well as a great selection of dishes on the specials board. Starters - We decided to start with the Grilled Sardines from the specials board and the Polpettine Napoli which were meatballs in a tomato sauce with toasted ciabatta. When the dishes arrived the presentation was very basic but the most important thing was that the food was delicious. Mains - Now on to the main course where my wife chose the Sea Bass all’ Aglio which was sea bass fillets with butter , garlic and tomato. For myself I opted for the Veal T.Bone with butter and sage of the specials board. We also ordered a side of Zucchini Fritte. Now here is where we were a mixture of highs and lows. Let’s start with the highs. The Sea Bass was delicious and my Veal T.Bone was a definite 10/10. Unfortunately the lows were the bland selection of vegetables (cabbage , carrots and broccoli) that seem to come with every meat or fish dish. It really was a shame. Desserts - After a nice little break it was time for desserts and we chose two from the specials. They were the Lemon Delizia a lemon sponge cake filled with a lemon custard and the Pasteria an orange flavoured neopolitan tart. Both desserts were a delight and a nice way to finish. We finished with a coffee to bring to and end a delightful visit to Sorrento. The food was very good and yes does take you back in time a bit. The staff were excellent and their friendliness is hard to beat. So yes if you don’t want modern but want to enjoy good food in a nice friendly atmosphere then yes I would recommend a visit. As I said the only little downside was the vegetables served with the main courses. The average price for 3 Courses is £45 so good value for money. I’ve been here twice now on a recommendation.. tiny place always packed. The service and the atmosphere is lovely with dean Martin playing in the background. The food is to die for.. give it a try you won’t be disappointed

We went here for lunch so it was quiet but we enjoyed the authentic Italian ambience and décor. The starters was delicious, especially the fresh, warm bread. Food was really nice and good portions. We didn't give it 5 stars as the menu was a bit basic and we expected a bit more; would have been nice to have more options. Good, friendly service.

Have been going to Sorrento’s as long as it’s been open & known Franco for many years before in Umberto da Franco Ilford. The best family atmosphere mixed with amazing food topped with fantastic service! My go to restaurant. Cannot recommend highly enough, have eaten through the menus multiple times and not been disappointed yet, the wine selection is brilliant too

Bing! Wonderful experience at Korat tonight, we decided to dine in to celebrate our anniversary. So glad we did as we had a lovely time, the food was outstanding, authentic, fresh and hot! cocktails very yummy by Ram and som kiet our waiter was very attentive and in good spirits! Thank you Korat, we will be back very soon!

This restaurant is a great spot for Thai cuisine. We tried the Satay Chicken and Spring Rolls as starters, both served with a delicious coleslaw. The food was flavorful and satisfying. The ambience is lovely and welcoming, though parking might be a bit tricky since they don’t have a private lot. You can find paid roadside parking nearby. Fun fact: they charge for hot water, so sip wisely! 😉Also, the first round of prawn crackers is on the house, but you’ll pay extra if you want more.

Visited on a Wednesday evening at 7pm with a group of 7. Food was amazing, really good quality and fresh ingredients, I had the Salmon Chuchi, epic flavour but let down a little by having bones in which I didn't know from the menu. Several other people in the group had cocktails and raved about them. By about 8pm we were the only guests which was fine as a large rowdy group but would have felt uncomfortable if it had just been a dinner for 2. Thru had a seperate vegetarian menu to we didn't order from it, nor did we order any starters, but portions very generousso not needed. The waiter was fab, friendly and silly :)

Service was good here, overlooking the golf course. We had my dear mother’s funeral and I cannot complain.

Some of the reviews were a bit divisive but gut feeling said to have a look. My wife and I really loved our meals. The Brie and Chutney starter was absolutely delicious!! My wife had the prawns and loved them, everything tasted fresh. Roast main was delicious, everything made sense, presentation great, offered choice between horseradish, mint sauce and mustard which was nice touch (I picked horseradish). I had lamb which gravy was sweet and complemented well, wife picked beef. Kevin, the owner, was hospital and was the staff who were really friendly. Despite my son running around, they were not touchy or displayed any signs of being annoyed. Highly recommend this place, hidden gem.

My husband and I had our Golden Wedding Anniversary Lunch here yesterday along with my nephew and his wife celebrating their Silver Wedding Anniversary. The three course lunch was perfect. The service was excellent and really friendly. Our family of 17 really enjoyed themselves. Thank Jaxons. X

My husband and I have just had our wedding reception here and were overwhelmed with how brilliant Kevin and his team were. Nothing was too much trouble - even down to Kevin making sure we were all sorted for a lift home at the end of the night. The food was all beautifully presented and tasted incredible. We had so many compliments from our guests about how lovely the food was and how much they liked Jaxon’s as a choice of venue. We would not hesitate to rebook future functions with Jaxon’s (and will definitely be back to try their Sunday dinner!) We cannot thank Kevin and his team for going the extra mile for us, we are truly grateful X

Absolutely banging food, beautifully presented, my sister and I had the fillet steak that was cooked to perfection and the sharer dessert which was to die for! The sticky toffee pudding was the best we've ever had, hands down! Will definitely be back

Went here for a Sunday roast. Has indoor and outdoor seating. And dogs welcome outside. Was such a good atmosphere there was a live singer! It's very reasonable prices and cocktails were amazing! The portions were a good size get a variety of vegetables compared to some places I've visited. Good for a family Sunday meal loved it! Will be back soon for the pasta as I heard it's incredible

We came down for our cousins birthday, which was at a different venue, however on our second night we had food here which was fantastic, came out quick and pipping hot! Before leaving we had breakfast which again was cooked to order (which I prefer) all the team that we spoke to was awesome, chatty and smiley! We will definitely be seeing you all again soon when we next come down. Big shout out too Sophie, Anne, Jemma and the chef Perry! 🙏🏼🙌🏽

Such a wonderful friendly and accommodating staff team, especially the lovely waitress named Anne. We enjoyed very fast service and the food was superb. Nice one team, we will return.

Lovely british countryside pub. The atmosphere and the service are always great. The food is delicious, they have both traditional and vegan dishes, offering everyone an option to enjoy themselves. They also have baby changing facilities and step-free access.

Everything was great here with really friendly staff. They brought out some colouring bits for our little one too. Food took a little while to come out but was worth the wait.

Love the new refurbished look. Food was yummy. We also had sides but to be honest, portions were generous, which my husband loved! Lulu our waitress was absolutely fabulous. Thank you for a delicious Sunday lunch and to Lulu for taking care of us. Mel xxx

The service from the beginning was great. Our waitress seemed to be running the floor by herself and did a good job to make sure everyone was seen to promptly with the restaurant being fairly busy, with a friendly and welcoming attitude. After our first drinks we chose a bottle of Rioja which was delicious, and the waitress agreed it was a great choice. The Camembert to start was a nice sharer, and we chose the sea bass and the fish cakes for main. The sea bass was very tasty and an overall great dish. The fish cakes were tasty but we felt the dish needed something to pull it together more as it was dry. We went all out and had dessert, and again the waitress was very accommodating in allowing us to have ice cream and custard with our choices. The setting was very comfortable and homely, and seemed clean and well looked after.

They have recently redecorating the pub, and it has a more upmarket feel. Lots of parking on site, and the food and drink are well priced. The menu is good, and you can order and pay from your table. Main course, desert and drink for £25

Lovely pub that has a country feel about it..very good quality food served by friendly bar staff.we had sirloin steak medium cooked,tasted really good and easy to cut and the ultimate burger 🍔 which had gravy with it,very nice.the pub is clean and modern and the toilet very good to.
