I had my birthday here last night and could not have been happier with my choice! They hosted 30 of us in the downstairs area. From the moment of booking everything was so easy! The pizza was fabulous, the service was brilliant and the wine was delicious (Franconia). They went out of their way to make everything special. They even offered to push the tables to the side so we could use the room as an event space for the rest of the evening! Highly recommend booking this venue for any parties or group bookings! Will definitely be returning!
Visiting Zia Lucia in Balham was a delightful introduction to a truly unique pizza experience. Renowned for its innovative approach to traditional Italian pizza, this cozy neighborhood spot combines authenticity with creative flair, and I left thoroughly impressed. Ambience and Atmosphere Nestled in the vibrant area of Balham, Zia Lucia boasts a welcoming and relaxed vibe. The interior is chic yet unpretentious, with a warm wood-and-brick aesthetic, subtle lighting, and an open kitchen where you can see the pizzas being crafted in the wood-fired oven. It’s an intimate space that feels perfect for everything from casual dining to a cozy date night. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, exuding that genuine Italian hospitality that makes you feel right at home. The Specialty: Charcoal Base Pizza Zia Lucia is famous for offering a choice of four different pizza doughs, but I couldn’t resist trying their signature charcoal base. I was initially curious and perhaps slightly skeptical about how it would differ from a standard pizza, but it turned out to be a revelation. The charcoal dough had a striking black color and a subtle smoky flavor that complemented the toppings beautifully. Despite its uniqueness, it didn’t overpower the taste of the pizza—it merely enhanced it. The dough was surprisingly light, with a crisp edge and a soft, airy texture. It also felt less heavy on the stomach, which was an added bonus. Toppings and Flavors I opted for the Arianna pizza, topped with mozzarella, truffle honey, goat cheese, and Italian sausage. The truffle honey was a standout, offering a delicate sweetness that balanced the savory sausage and creamy goat cheese perfectly. Every bite was a harmonious blend of textures and flavors, elevated further by the subtle smokiness of the charcoal base. The menu also caters to a variety of preferences, with plenty of vegetarian options and customizable choices. If charcoal isn’t your thing, the other doughs—including traditional, wholemeal, and gluten-free—are worth exploring as well. Overall Experience Zia Lucia in Balham delivers an exceptional dining experience with its innovative yet authentic approach to pizza. The charcoal base was truly special, offering a unique twist on a classic dish without compromising on flavor or quality. The relaxed ambiance, attentive service, and top-notch pizzas make it a must-visit spot for pizza enthusiasts and foodies alike. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this is a place that will leave you craving your next slice. I’ll definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu!
