I recently returned to Bombay restaurant after a year to celebrate my birthday, and I must say, the experience was just as exceptional as the first time! A special thanks to Ali, who served us again and made the whole night unforgettable with his friendliness and professionalism. His attention to detail truly elevated the evening. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service impeccable. Thank you, Ali, for looking after us so well and making my birthday celebration so special. I can’t wait to come back again!

Absolutely delicious! Our group of 9 enjoyed a 5 course banquet. Everything we tried was excellent - tasty and great quality. Some of the best chicken tikka we’ve tried. Our waiter Ali was extremely patient with us and our children and was very welcoming. We loved the ambience and atmosphere. A great evening out to celebrate the New Year!

My 1st visit was November 24 and somehow I got mixed feelings for this place. After reading good reviews and that they have been rewarded one of the best when I went there felt a little disappointing. Stuff were absolutely chaotic and shouting to one another not paying attention to clients. The menu was missing many meals who can you have a fish section and only serve prawns and no other fish. I ordered keema naan and it was crispy and had like a blob of meat in the middle. Most of the food I eat in other places is far better. The atmosphere with this blue light is blinding.

We had dinner here with all the children and it was really lovely. The kids menu was great and there was lots of food to choose from, and plenty of it! Adult menu was great as well and the food was delicious. It is so nice to go to a stand alone restaurant and have great service, great food and a feel welcome. The margaritas are amazing especially the frozen mango ones! I will be back!

Strangely quiet for a Friday night but that didn't stop the party! Great food, huge portions, good value for money on the set menu, staff were attentive and lots of fun and on hand as needed. Great cocktails including non alcoholic versions too.

Out in Orpington and our friend recommended eating here, she was a regular and used to come here about once a month for years. The staff recognised her and we're really friendly to all of us. The atmosphere was excellent, there were other tables celebrating birthdays too so it was very jovial. I had the duck rolls for a starter and the ribs and wings combo for my main. I also had a glass of Freddy Fudpucker (cocktail). The starter was okay, but was so hot it was difficult to taste anything, but the portion was pretty good as it was also served with some salad bits. The drink was really good, almost dangerously so as you couldn't really taste the alcohol! It also comes in jugs instead of individual glasses so you could have a great night just trying all the cocktails here. The ribs and wings combo was the star of the show, the meat fell off the bone, was full of flavour, and I got an incredibly generous portion. It came with salad, chips, and coleslaw, and it was a challenge to finish it all! I also had a few bites of some of the steaks the others ordered, both the lamb and beef were so tender and melted in my mouth. Definitely a must try if you are in the area!

Chapter One

Farnborough Common, Locksbottom, Orpington BR6 8NF, UK | Restaurant
P: 01689 854848

Rating: 4.6 (1171) Price Level:

OVERVIEW Posh restaurant, post food, posh service BUT, à la carte menu offers quality over quantity food at extortionate prices! PLUS + The restaurant is described as “Modern European food,” which it is indeed! might I add prepared with fresh, tasteful, and of the finest quality ingredients. + Despite a constantly changing menu, one is always able to find a menu favourite as the food on this restaurant's à la carte menu remains top-notch at a 5* level! + A variety of different menu choices that cater to all food preferences. + The “pan-fried south coast hake” was fresh, cooked in a rich, flavourful, and creamy sauce, accompanied by green legumes, which complimented the dish better than any carbs. + The “glazed vanilla crème brûlée” was very good. + The complementary breadbasket came with homemade butter bread, which came straight out of the oven! It was rich and buttery the best bread I have had in my life! table of 5 consensus. + Complimentary starter and dessert sweets. + The brasserie dining area is posh, private, and intimate. Perfect anniversary or Valentine’s Day spot! MINUS - A main meal alone was not enough to fulfil and satisfy, as most mains on the à la carte menu had starter portion sizes. - Overpriced, at around £75 for a three-course meal, that is not part of the a la carte set menu. - A table is restricted to orders from one of the menus only, defeating the purpose of having multiple menu options. - The “tandoori Cornish monkfish” was fresh but slightly under-cooked and so subtle in favour you would not associate it with Indian tandoori, consensus of 3. The citrus salads and tzatziki, however, were flavourful and complimented the fish well. - The “strawberry cheesecake” had a fancy presentation but did not taste like cheesecake at all (consensus of 2). - The restaurants could benefit from a quick, hassle-free table QR code payment method, with the option to individually self-select payments or split the bill between the group. - Due to limited walking availability, you have to book weeks in advance to get a table at the brasserie dining area. - Limited and odd opening hours. TABLE ORDERS Starters: * Tandoori Cornish Monkfish Mains: * Pan-fried South Coast Hake * Roast rack of new season Kentish lamb * Cauliflower Cheese Crostilliant Desserts: * Glazed Vanilla Crème Brûlée * Strawberry Cheesecake * Baked Amalfi Lemon Tart * Warm Sticky Toffee Pudding

Have wanted to visit for many years as I live close by but have been slightly put off by the lack of variety for vegans and vegetarians (as is the case in most high end restaurants). Decided to put these reservations aside as the festive cocktails looked so appealing. From start to finish it was a polished, professional and delicious experience and does make you wonder why you’d ever bother going into London to find fine dining again when it’s right on your doorstep. Was welcomed into the bar first where the cocktails were wonderful (and potent!) then tried the vegetarian gnocchi with sides. Although the portions look small, the food is rich and filling, and a delight to the tastebuds. Another big win for me is food served on hot plates as I eat very slowly and hate cold food. Why doesn’t every restaurant do this? Perfect service and will definitely be back.

A beautifully appointed restaurant and overall fine dining experience. On arrival we were warmly greeted by our hosts and escorted to our table by numerous friendly and courteous staff. Service was swift, polished professional. Our waitress was a lovely lady, very patient in answering our questions and engaging in conversation about the restaurant. Starter was a lobster raviolo and was really delicious, the delicate crepe pastry went really well with the lightness of the lobster filling. Main course was venison, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection although I think the portion size should have been just a bit larger. Dessert was a lovely warm apple tart tatin, rich with cinnamon and well balanced between the sweet and the tartness. The only issue is a minor one and is largely not the fault of the restaurant. There was a party of approximately seven people in the middle of the room who started loud and made more and more noise as the night wore on until my friend and I literally couldn't hear our own conversation. The staff totally failed to address this problem so I had to take it upon myself to quieten them down in my own inimicable style. It was frustrating that a Michelin star fine dining experience was marred by the failure of the staff to deal with people who had all the grace of a hen night in Blackpool. I'm not overreacting or being a snob about this. I have no problem with people having fun and being a bit boisterous but this was just ridiculous. Other than that minor blemish I think this is a really good restaurant and well worth a visit.

So pleased I was able to get a last minute booking in the brasserie, as it was a really lovely meal. Attentive service, a great mojito, and really tasty food! The tuna tacos were my favourite and the sea bream was cooked perfectly. Planning to return for the a la carte 3 course menu soon.

We visited Chapter One for a birthday celebration with my wife and son. There was no kids menu, but it wasn't a problem for us. The service was excellent—polite and attentive staff. We had a three-course set menu. While the monkfish starter wasn’t to my taste, the venison main was very good. I really liked the pie on the side. The dessert was delicious, and the whole family thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It's a very good restaurant, but it doesn't have the London gloss and for £270 you can visit a very good restaurant in London.

Always great food here. With a diverse menu to choose from and favourites available all day it never disappoints. Found that tables were left with dirty plates for long periods of time, but this is more because the staff never stop so it's understandable. They've had a little change around with the seating arrangements and it seems to have really had a nice impact

What a lovely cosy place , perfect for families. Visited them with my family for a dinner. Staff was courteous and they don’t push meals on you. You can relax and enjoy your food in luxury of your time. We loved all what we order right from drinks , tapas , mains and sundaes . Fired chicken with Bombay spices was extraordinary and I loved the bang bang chicken with noodles the most. Will revisit soon. Thanks

We visited the British Queen at Locksbottom on a Saturday evening and had an excellent experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely excellent. Wonderfully presented and incredible flavours. We had a Virgin Experience voucher where you are limited to a sample menu of 3 options per course, but these options are the standout best sellers from the main menu, so this was not a problem. Good cocktail choice and options for alcohol free. Good veggie options. We will definitely go back.

Every time I've been there the food has been truly a la carte. I once ordered a burger for my daughter and, I don't know why, it was a little burnt. They immediately admitted their fault and asked us to replace it. My daughter being 5 years old didn't have the patience to wait for another so my wife and I shared with her. In the end, I received the bill without the burger. That didn't stop me from giving 5 stars and going back there. Recommend...😊

It was my birthday meal and everything was perfect. The pork belly bites are like candy that is sticky and melts in your mouth at the same time. My friend has mushrooms on toast to start and they were yummy with the combo of shrooms and that sauce. We then both had burgers - she beef and me chicken and they were excellent. They were very accommodating she didn’t want the bacon on hers but I did. The fries were so good and stayed hot for a long time. I also had an Islay old-fashioned - heavenly. We didn’t have room for dessert but they brought us out a couple of brownie bites and the were divine. I would definitely eat here again.

Came for a late lunch for the MIL’s birthday. Food was delicious and priced appropriately. Service and attention was brilliant. The MIL uses a walking stick and was able to easily navigate around the restaurant including to the toilets which are now all downstairs. Staff were extremely attentive and knowledgeable, I have allergies to nuts and sesame and I was able to trust that my food choices were safe. Was quiet at 2pm on a Saturday which surprised me, I love the atmosphere, music, decor etc and will definitely be returning.

The lovely, friendly staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, with latecomers, additional members of the group and also when dealing with a minor issue with the fish. Kids were well catered for too, from the menu, through to the collection of toys, games and books. I'm really looking forward to visiting again!

This is an updated review now in November 2024. This time a Friday afternoon stop. Great to get in a warm pub at this time of year, when many pubs do the opposite to save on those energy bills. I highly recommend the Seafood Linguine. Absolutely exceptional. So much so that I spoke to the Chef to sing his praises. This pub is very well presented, with a great selection of ales. Now with such a passionate Chef, it's most definitely a place I'll be visiting more often. Review below in November 2023. We arrived as two on a long local walk. Inside this pub is like a Tardis, absolutely huge. And the rear garden is huge as well with plenty of seating. There's a decent selection of ales including one of my favourites Doombar. The menu offers a good selection including smaller bites and sandwiches. The facilities are very clean and modern, with the pub itself offering a hard wooden floor maintaining that lovely cosy traditional feel. We did have to wait a long time for our meals, however it was definitely worth it. Our plates were nicely presented, with notable above average quality in terms of ingredients and taste. We would definitely like to return on a Saturday afternoon, as we did on this day. I recommend the Turkey Roast with all the trimmings or the Fried Red Snapper fish. I would hope that on a Sunday Lunchtime they'd have more staff. To cater for the likely high foot fall. A very nice traditional pub, with high quality meals.

I had a lovely meal in there for my Birthday. The food was delicious. They accommodated us a table of 10 so I could celebrate with my family. Food was very nice and staff friendly and helpful. The only thing I was disappointed with, we preordered our meals and wanted prawn cocktail. And when we arrived they informed us they had run out. They offered us king prawns as an alternative which I thought it would still come as a prawn cocktail but it didn't.
