“This is a gem of a place. Tucked away in the Nostell Estate. I met two friends here this morning for breakfast, and what a breakfast it was. Top quality food, and very tasty. The staff are really friendly, and do everything they can to make you welcome. The teas and coffees are very nice as well. Top food. Update: I called today with two friends, and even though the staff were very busy, they made us all welcome, and couldn't do enough for us. It's an absolute pleasure to get such great service. A big thank you.”

“Really beautiful food, we came to celebrate a friend's birthday & looking to book again. We used the £20 lunch deal, and it was absolutely amazing value for money! The salad bar was evidently fresh and constantly restocked, the meat came around with really nice waiting staff, who were polite and helpful. My daughter has ARFID & eating out makes it difficult for us, luckily the salad bar had lots of her safe foods on, such as plain rice, crackers, boiled egg and cheese. The staff also put chips on our table and brought more once they had been eaten. I didn't need to mention my daughters food disorder due to how friendly the staff were and how much of it was accessible to her needs. To find somewhere that gives her the opportunity to sit and eat in an actual restaurant with access to a large number or safe foods means the world to us as a family. We will certainly be returning 😊 10/10. *it is also incredibly clean and modern inside, a really beautiful place.”

“I booked this for a special occasion and it didn't disappoint! From first contact with the staff on the phone they went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Parking is best at the Newmiller Dam 5mins walk down the road. It is pay and display but free after 18:00. The restaurant is amazing as soon as you walk in there are so many private areas and historical features. Spread over multiple levels with lots of bars. The build spec is top notch. The staff are exceptional. Because we have a child on the spectrum the staff went the next level to accommodate us which is very rare. The sign of well trained and professional staff. We sat in a private booth near the kitchen which was vibrant and loads of space the relax. The menu is vast with something for everyone. Classic Italian dishes but with modern twist. Good for vegan and vegetarian and they asked about allergies before ordering. All the food was delicious and cooked to perfection. I had steak and it ranked among the best I have ever had. With a kids menu which is very generous and well thought out. The staff are attentive but allow you to enjoy your space. Very impressed and planning the next trip in the near future. Highly recommend.”

“Follow The Pecking Order 23 on Facebook for all our reviews. Overall experience 9.4/10 Food 9/10 Service 9.9/10 Cleanliness 10/10 Atmosphere/Setting 9/10 Value 9/10 This House is through the roof!! A nice location. Ample parking at the back. Overall this was a very satisfying experience. The service started brilliantly. We were greeted at the bar by the Head Waiter who instructed his staff to seat us at our prebooked table. Our drinks orders were taken and then the Head Waiter came over to inform of the Specials on the menu and the soup of the day. A short wait for our drinks followed by our usual mix of starters. We had the scallops which were on the specials menu. These were cooked perfectly, sat on a cauliflower puree, a thoroughly enjoyable dish.. The Duck Orange Pate had a good flavour and was seved with a chutney, which slightly overpowered the pate and bread. The wild mushroom arancini, the only real disappointment of the meal, was a little bland, we couldn't really taste the mushrooms and garlic if there was any present though great texture. The marinara sauce they sat on was a good strong clean and fresh flavour. We had the beef sirloin Sunday Roast main course served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes , mash and vegetables. The beef was cooked to perfection and the gravy was exceptionally delicious. Mash was smooth and creamy and well cooked vegetables. The horseradish served with it had good kick, and seemed to be homemade with real grated horseradish. We had to try the seasonal bonfire parkin cake. Although nice and a bit different from the usual menu desserts it was in need of some more sauce or ice cream. The sticky toffee pudding was light and full of flavour. The blackberry parfait was a little bland lacking the punch of blackberry I was hoping for, but pleasant enough. Although the food was very good overall, it was the service which was outstanding at this place. We were offered drinks at exactly the right moment, we were checked on to see if everything was OK, the staff were all courteous and respectful, taking care to apologise for any interruptions they needed to make to offer drinks etc. The chap running the team was meticulous in his work and orchestrated everything impeccably. This would have been our first 10/10 for service but one of the waitresses brought our last drink holding the glass by the top with her fingers all around the rim. We will definitely be returning to try the midweek menu . The Pecking Orders final verdict. Being just a few minutes off the M1 motorway it's definitely worth a detour if you're passing.”

“We received a voucher from our letting agents to try a local restaurant. We really enjoyed our meal . We had some snacks, starters, mains and an extra side . I had an aperitif drink and a wine , my husband had a cider . Without the voucher it would have been around £75. Service was good at arrival and throughout but slow in the end when wanting to pay. It’s a pretty restaurant with a nice atmosphere. I’d recommend as a good restaurant in Wakefield.”

“Absolutely awesome beautiful food for breakfast for the price it’s amazing. Colette & sammii made feel so welcome. They could not have done anymore nothing was any trouble at all. As I have MND it means some times I’m unable to control my arms & hands. They brought me my coffee across so I didn’t end up with it all over me and the floor. I can’t thank them enough for kindness not just to me other customers as well.”

“Spur of the moment, as we drove past, we thought we would pop in for some pub lunch. Inside was spacious, clean, and plenty of spaces to sit at. Despite the kitchen being refurbished and the venue having a limited menu, the food choice was decent. We went for the meat feast pizza and chicken strips with Mayo dip. (See pictures attached) The service was quick, and the food was great. Pizza wasn't greasy. Chicken strips were cooked just right. The price was reasonable. The only thing I could mark it down for is the atmosphere, but with it being quiet here if you like quiet, then here would be perfect for you. Would recommend visiting for a quick bite to eat if you were ever passing by.”

“The Dam Inn, Location, Location, Location! After a refreshing walk around Newmillerdam under the rare but glorious sunshine, my friend and I decided to pop into The Dam Inn for a bite to eat. Having not visited in a few years due to moving away, I was pleasantly surprised by what awaited us. From the moment we stepped inside, the warm ambiance instantly felt welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive, setting the tone for a lovely dining experience. Though we only had time for a quick snack, but the food far exceeded our expectations in both flavour and value. We ordered the Halloumi fries and the Sharing Nachos with Beef, both of which were nothing short of a taste sensation! The Halloumi fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully chewy on the inside, while the nachos were loaded with flavour and generously topped. It’s not often that you find such fantastic food at such reasonable prices, making our meal all the more enjoyable. The Dam Inn’s location is another highlight — nestled in a scenic area, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a walk around Newmillerdam. The combination of great food, value for money, and excellent service truly made for a memorable afternoon. I can't wait to return for a more substantial dinner soon. If you're looking for a place that ticks all the boxes, location, delicious food, and incredible staff The Dam Inn should be at the top of your list to visit.”
