THE HIDE OUT HOLMFIRTH

7 Hollowgate, Holmfirth HD9 2DG, UK | Restaurant
P: 01484 682469

Rating: 4.8 (74) Price Level:

Popped into this little bar while in Holmfirth. Quite small so we went upstairs to another smaller area. Only a couple of tables but what a wonderful little area with lots of quirky things scattered around. Service was quick & the staff friendly. £23 for 4 drinks was probably a little more expensive than the average (for the area) but worth the experience If you visit, make sure you also experience their toilet ...... best public toilet I've ever had the pleasure of using 😉

Hide out organised the perfect party! If you need a venue that has everything they are the place to be! The vibe is very good everyone enjoyed the music and the very aesthetic decoration. The food is very good with brilliant presentation and portion. The communication is outstanding and very fast response. They even baked me my birthday cake! The staff are all very accommodating. They have everything you need and they sure did the extra mile to give us the best experience. Definitely coming back again! Well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Popped into the Hideout a few weeks ago for a quick drink with friends and like it so much I came back last night for a sharing board with another friend. The food was delicious and plenty for 2 of us. A warm welcome and a lovely chilled atmosphere which is rare for Holmfirth on a Friday night. The Hideout should be busier than it was for a weekend but then I guess the feel of the place would totally change.

Nice place overlooking the river, can't comment on food as yet, friendly staff, maybe a few plants to soften the building. My only gripe shared toilets, I know it's a modern world but, having worked in a multitude of places, where most woman wouldn't like sharing with blokes, for reasons best not talked about. Apart from that great space, looking forward to sitting on the deck in summer. Update more seating and space, still needs some plants, real or otherwise. Cake is missing 🍰, you need something sweet with a coffee, scone, biscuit anything, but nowhere to be found? Pardun the pun. I like the vibe in the alley lots of bars of different description.

Absolutely amazing food and beer. Stumbled across this place by chance and could not have been happier. The food was exquisite and the staff were outstandingly accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend the muscles and pork belly and make sure you get the potatoes on the side! DOV: 11/01/2025

This will no doubt become a very successful place for everyone to enjoy drinks hot/cold and delicious food. The service from staff was warming and welcoming. The coffee was 5/5 and you leave having no doubt to plan your next visit. The interior is modern with a relaxing feel, making you want to order that second coffee. Great work to the staff there, would highly recommend and will be visiting again soon.

What a gorgeous meal with lovely service. We can definitely recommend the pork belly, halloumi bites and brisket. But, it was all really tasty (loved the oyster mushrooms too). Plus upstairs the view is great!

Very pleasantly surprised I had not expected this. Classical English Sunday roast on a high level of culinarily experience taste and presentation wise. Nice German beer, also quite surprising in deep Yorkshire. Pleasantly interested but not obnoxious or snobby personell..just a place to BE and enjoy. Definitely coming back

Had our anniversary dinner here on a cold snowy night in December. The atmosphere was very warm and cozy and the staff were very attentive. Food was fantastic, the butternut risotto was the best risotto i've ever had. Sticky toffee pudding was an additional bonus.

Wow, I wanted to do something a little different for my birthday this year and the whippet and pickle didn’t disappoint. I booked a bottomless brunch for 4. We had more than enough food, a brunch board and a waffle of our choosing. Excellent range of drinks. It wasn’t like the usual bottomless drinks where you leave legless and hungry. We left feeling full and happy. Thank you to the waitress’. A wonderful day with good friends, good conversation (that I could hear that wasn’t drowned out by loud music) and fantastic food.

Was really impressed with W&P, not only for their beautiful food but also for how they looked after us a large group booking, especially dealing with the bills. Each of us had our own bill, no faffing around doing calculations, who had what, the lovely waitress had sorted it all for us, it was such a breeze. Thank you. Back to the food, there were great preorder food options for a group booking, they catered for gluten free and vegetarians well. High quality, fresh ingredients. Probably the best falafel dish I've ever had, a mountain of food! Had mocktail options for the drivers, refreshing to see not to be full of sugar either 🙂 Will love to come again. Thank you for having us

Unusual place in many ways. Decor is fun. Cosy upstairs with quite a lot of seating. Food was excellent. Every course was delicious. Didn’t think I’d manage all three but I did. Had nice local beer (canned). Tricky access. Either up a cobbled steep street or steep steps and once inside more steep steps to eating area. We needed to pay £10 a head deposit to book but that’s kind of nice as your meal seems cheaper on the night. Staff friendly.

Absolutely lovely evening! Me and my husband visited for our first date out in years after having our baby. We’ve eaten curries all over the world and these were definitely some of the best we’ve ever eaten. The staff are SO lovely, especially the young lady that served us, she almost makes the place so I hope they are looking after her! Brilliant food really can’t fault! I think my only suggestion would be to have their bathrooms redecorated as this kind of killed the feel and vibe of the restaurant.

Harvey's Bar / Kitchen

Rating: 4.5 (785) Price Level:

My lady and I rocked up out of the worst weather. We were warmly welcomed into this lovely loft! Let's cut to the chase. Top 5 steak i...my partner has ever had. Ok I had a nibble. We both agreed it was perfectly grilled. High quality and locally sourced. My pizza was excellenta but firm dry sliced gherkins failed the three pigs. Pulled pork fries not to be missed. Every employee worked and conducted at a top level. We will return for steak, you should.

Harvey's Holmfirth in the old White Hart remains what it was but is now opened up into a great open space in the loft to eat and meet. Staff are brilliant, food is delicious and drinks are plenty, book in to avoid disappointment as it is consistently busy and it's no surprise

Had all but given up hope of finding both great food and service. The food and service here weren't just great, they were exceptional. All of the staff had personality and clearly enjoy their job. They were all outstanding in all aspects of customer service, never once forgetting or neglecting us despite it being extremely busy and the fact we were up 2 flights of stairs in the eaves. Seating us in the eaves was an act of consideration, as there was a large party of rather merry young women downstairs, very much enjoying themselves. As for the food, wow. Chefs clearly very skilled and on top of their game. Everything creative, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I didn't think £70 for 2 x 2 courses, including 2 cocktails was pricey at all. The portions are generous too. An obviously very popular restaurant, with a vibrant vibe. All in all very difficult to fault in any way. Needless to say, we will be returning.

A table for ten on New Year's Day might sound like a tough gig, but the staff at Harvey's could not have done a better job. Ten out of ten on all fronts. The menu is diverse and well considered, and you'll likely find it hard to choose because they all sound so delicious. Then, the food was perfectly executed by clearly a very skilled team in the kitchen - every dish, faultlessly tasty. The whole party unanimously agreed; totally scrumptious. And finally, a huge thank you to the front of house waiting staff, especially our server, who took such fantastic care of our group and was clearly very good at her job indeed. A credit to the business. These guys are getting it all right - we'll be back!

We visited bank holiday Monday, nice restaurant very spacious we were taken upstairs, I was a bit reluctant as it was out of the way but still very nice. The lady who showed us to our table was really helpful as we actually went to the wrong Harvey's but sorted our table out. The food was good but it did take nearly 40 minutes for our mains to come out. I would have given 5 stars for service otherwise. Prices were reasonable and the food was tasty.

We were warmly welcomed on our arrival by the ever helpful Caitlyn, and shown to our table. Menu's provided and cocktails (large and well made👍) ordered. Caitlyn then guided us through the menu with suggestions and then returned shortly after to take our order. Food was served at a nice pace and everything was extremely tasty and well presented. Would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone (veggie, vegan, diatary restricted etc). Will definitely be returning. 👍👍👍

As I was halfway through my meal at The Winking Stag I was struck by the fact that after nearly a year of global travel (which involved a lot of eating), here I was eating some of the best food of the whole trip, in a small cocktail bar and restaurant, in a small Yorkshire town. The whole set up and ambience is on the edge of eclectic; a wide range of cocktails with weekly specials created by the staff, who themselves are a young and energetic crowd. There's good background music, well spaced tables and a really pleasant atmosphere. And the food. Oh the food! Japanese fusion, really well presented, layers of flavour, generous portions, served tapas style. I was very impressed, very happy to be there and couldn't quite believe that of all the places I'd been able to go this year, this place was so standout - and in my own home county! I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to go again soon. Well done to all at the Winking Stag. Finally, if you find yourself in Holmfirth, I can really recommend going.

Lou & Joe's Burger Co

11 Victoria St, Holmfirth HD9 2DN, UK | Restaurant
P: 01484 508996

Rating: 4.6 (703) Price Level:

Recently had the pleasure of sinking my teeth into the legendary Scotty 2 Hotty at Lou & Joe's, and it was nothing short of a culinary masterpiece. I went full throttle and added a buttermilk chicken patty to the double beef setup, and let me tell you – it was a flavour explosion that should have its own fan club! What makes this burger even better (besides the perfectly cooked patties and that cheeky bit of spice) is the heart behind it. For every Scotty 2 Hotty sold, Lou & Joe's donates to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance – how's that for making a difference with your meal? Lou (the man, the myth, the legend) and Scotty (the inspiration behind the burger) aren't just great chefs; they’re great men who put their community first. This restaurant isn’t just about burgers; it’s about heart, community, and a whole lot of Yorkshire spirit. Now, let's talk coffee – next level! Served in cups made from old coffee grinds, it's eco-friendly and delicious. And the dessert? To die for. On Scotty’s recommendation, I went for the salted fudge cake with cookies and cream ice cream – honestly, I think I might've transcended to another plane of existence after that. Whether you're in for the food, coffee, or just good vibes, this place delivers. Go on, get a Scotty 2 Hotty and support a fantastic cause while indulging in one of the best burgers (and desserts) you’ll ever have. Lou & Joe's, you have my respect. 👌

The Fox House

Flint Ln, Holmfirth HD9 2TR, UK | Restaurant
P: 01226 762536

Rating: 4.5 (673) Price Level:

Went here for a carvery one Sunday and was excited to eat. Staff were very friendly and chatty, the atmosphere was nice and the interior of the pub is well decorated. The carvery would have been amazing, however, the mash they had is a mixture of potato and vegetables and ruined what would have been a great meal! I think the omission of plain mash is a very odd choice for a carvery, as it just tasted of mushed vegetables rather than the buttery creamy stuff you’d hope to eat with your meal! Wouldn’t put me off another visit, although I’d probably go for a menu item instead. My girlfriend at the chicken and loved her meal!

Lovely food, very attentive and friendly staff, a great place, however the only downsides are that there is only one person on the bar which can cause long waiting time and if you want a drink whilst eating your food it will be cold as it takes so long in the queue. Serving staff cannot take dessert orders or coffees, it has to be done through one person who also manages the table bookings, answers the phone, manages staff and takes all payments which again can result in big queues and it becomes a bit stressful and feels a bit like a school canteen.

Our first experience here, won't be the last. First impression is the wonderful building, an ex dyehouse - looks great, well set out, visibly beautiful from the outside, exceptional outdoor space (didn't use as it's -2⁰) Warm welcome on entry, and great seated area to review the menu, take a drink. Restaurant is bustling and has a great atmosphere, good music. Service was attentive and pleasant. Menu was a decent choice, not too many you can't decide. All choices were piping hot and really enjoyable. Sweets looked incredible, however ate far too much so gave them a miss.
