Butt Karahi - Heckmondwike
10 Union St, Heckmondwike WF16 0HH, UK

“On the back of some Google reviews, I took the family to this place for their signature dish - desi karahi. We ordered the family platter, Lahori fried fish, and meat samosa as starters. The mains were both the lamb and chicken karahis cooked in desi ghee. A biryani karahi was a side dish, and a medley of roghni naan and tandoori roti were the accompaniments. A cheeky jug of mango lassi washed it down For me, the fish was the standout starter closely followed by the chops. The others, while tasty, paled in comparison. The mains were the stars of the show delivering flavour and spice. The tandoori roti is the best accompaniment as the naan tempers the flavour profile. If I'm brutally honest. I prefer my karahi with a touch more salt and freshly chopped green chillies and ginger slivers to add zing. Best eaten direct from the karahi dish. Total cost £120 (£20 per person) Note, this place is yet another "Cash Only" establishment. It always makes me suspicious when I have to bank transfer money to a personal account.”

Heathfield Farm - Dining & Carvery

“We chose not to cook our own Christmas Dinner this year, and were very happy with the plentiful and delicious food on offer at Heathfield Farm Carvery. The staff had all worked extra hard to make all their guests happy, with many personalised touches, including an individually hand-written Christmas card, gingerbread men and a wrapped gift for children in our party. The best thing was the happy atmosphere. The only little niggles were that one of our group - our Ukrainian guest - was left waiting ages for her starter, after we had all been served, despite our exact table order having been emailed well in advance, and my daughter didn't get the nut roast she had ordered. (I got mine, though, and it was absolutely my favourite - really tasty, and with a good texture) . I suggest they check orders carefully- make sure all serving staff are aware - particularly when there are vegetarian orders - so that when each table is called up to get their meal, they already have any special orders ready to go. Other than that issue, the staff were all super smiley and helpful. I loved the Christmas sauces (apple, mint, cranberry and horseradish) that were available on a separate table and that I was able to get a portion of creamy Madagascan vanilla ice cream at the table, even though my Marz Attack Cake was to take home with me. They were also very generous with the time slot they allowed - 3 whole hours between new groups of diners - so we had plenty of time to sit and enjoy our special family meal within a relaxing and cosy environment.”

“The food was amazing, we couldn't fault it, portion sizes were generous. I was hoping to try something from their dessert menu but no room, after a starter of scallops and a main of beef cheek. Compliments to the chef !! The furniture though is tired which was the only thing that let our visit down. Just some chair covers would improve the rooms. Otherwise a fabulous visit .”

“Went on a Friday evening fairly early. 7.30pm ISH. There was only 2 other people in the bar area. Lots of staff. Lovely comfortable surroundings and pleasant young staff. Food we had was really nice. No complaints at all. Really clean nice décor. Don't understand why it's so empty on a Friday evening. What a shame.”
