Tallow

Rating: 4.8 (149) Price Level:

We had a fantastic meal here, we have been twice and both times have been lovely! The food was fantastic, delicious, beautifully presented and a new and exciting take on food. All four of us really really enjoyed it. The staff are lovely, very knowledgable and helpful. They even remembered that one member of our party doesn’t like sweet Reisling and accommodated this effortlessly. For me the only downside was that the toilets are up some steep stairs and I have a disability so it is hard for me, however I understand that it isn’t always possible to accommodate this with space so I will be going again and soon!

Tasting menu is fantastic, the accompanying wines are well worthwhile and add to the experience. Our hostess was brilliant and knew in-depth about each wine and each course. Well worth a special trip.

Outstanding food to Michelin star standard. Service was excellent and very welcoming. Garlic dough balls to die for plus great monkfish and chicken mains. We will be back later in the year to celebrate our 40th anniversary

This was genuinely one of the best meals I have had in my life. The smoked haddock starter was served with a gorgeous creamy white foam, the BBQ'd monkfish was delicate and bursting with flavour and the chicken was tender and served with a milk bread fried chicken sandwich on the side which was simply fabulous. They served some garlic dough balls to start which I would like to eat every day please! We finished with the chocolate slice which finished the meal off perfectly. An absolute treat and I can't wait to go back!

Tallow in Southborough delivers a truly remarkable tasting menu, where every dish is a blend of creativity and flavor. The service went beyond attentive; our waitress was knowledgeable and clearly passionate, explaining the processes and ingredients with enthusiasm. It made the meal feel special and personal, enhancing the whole dining experience. Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and the dedication to quality was evident. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining journey.

Amazing food, and good service. I had lunch, some cocktails and desserts with two friends, one of them Italian, and she said everything was fantastic. We loved the starters, some of them with smoked salmon and mozzarella cheese, others with gratin aubergines, absolutely delicious! The pistachio dessert was lovely, with authentic Italian ice cream. Highly recommended!

Food you cannot forget. The most freshest calamari and pasta dishes. Hard to choose which dish to have. Wine was reasonably priced compared to other restaurants in the town. Service was excellent and the restaurant had a stylish outside eating area and a cosy intimate restaurant. Jelly beans at the end of the meal was fun!!!! Will be returning.

If you are living locally or you are just visiting Tonbridge Wells, LagodiComo Bar and Restaurant is a place that must be on your list if you like Italian cuisine. Me and my wife had a lovely dinner recently in this place and it was an amazing experience. The restaurant has a great location, very close to High St, with a lot of places to visit around . There are plenty of parking places in the nearby area, we only walked 5min from the car. The moment we stepped in we were welcomed with a friendly positive attitude by the staff and we were amazed by the beauty of the place with lovely interior design, lights, shades and colours. The restaurant is spotless in terms of cleanliness. We served dinner and the food, cooked with fresh ingredients, was so delicious and authentic. The portions are not very big, the chef concentrates more on the quality, flavor, taste and elegance of the plate then quantity. So if you are very hungry and you want to eat the American way big portions this place is not for you, plenty in the area. On our visit we interacted with a few members of the staff and all of them were very friendly, eager to help, acting with professionalism making our visit an experience hard to remember. There is a wide variety of wines to choose from, amazing cocktails and premium Italian beer. If I have something to complain about, this is absolutely personal, I absolutely dislike the idea of service charge. I think it is quite disrespectful and redundant towards the customers as this is the main objective of a restaurant , to serve people. When the same bottle of wine that I can buy it from the local store with £50 you are selling it with £100 this is your services charge. Although I do believe in tipping, the tip should be minimum between 5-20%, should be suggested on the bill and the tip should reflect the satisfaction you had , it shouldn't be mandatory. But this is what I think and in our case we have been very satisfied. As a summary, the place is great, the staff is amazing and I am definitely recommending this place

The Counter by Robin Read

Rating: 4.9 (37) Price Level:

Beautiful food - we had the 5 course tasting menu plus the cheese course. Great wine menu. We loved all the courses, the staff were all great and very attentive. I was slightly disappointed with where we were sat in a corner near the door but the music was brilliant.

It’s not often you go to a restaurant and the tunes are as good as the food. It’s all about the menu obviously but the way Robin and the team go about their work is so chilled, it helps create this wonderful atmosphere in which to enjoy it all. We had the 10 course all-in counter experience and I’m so glad we did. I love a bar and Robin was engaged and informative. I’m not sure my words will do the food justice, other than to say I can’t see how anyone would be disappointed here. They did a great job of accommodating my wife’s no red meat request. We’re going back as soon as the menu changes next month. TW is pretty lucky I think to have a place like this. The pudding wine menu looks well worth exploring for those that like this sort of a drop!

An absolute pleasure to visit this gorgeous little gem of a restaurant. The 10-course tasting menu, sitting at the counter and watching the chefs, was a delight of exquisite tastes, and we had an additional cheese course between us. A truly magical evening.

Had a beautiful dinner here with my husband. We live locally and had eaten at Robin's pop up previously. His food is amazing and menu both fresh and seasonal. The Counter is small but packs a great punch with friendly professional staff. Does get quite warm in the window seats and gets busy as the evening goes on but that is to be expected. Top end of the price range but absolutely worth it.

This was an incredibly special evening, and we went for "The Counter" experience and got to sample the full menu. We liked the warm interior and the friendly hospitality. And we also appreciated how there was an effort to be "efficient" with the food and produce and waste as little as possible. I shall let the pictures do most of the talking, but basically, I enjoyed every single bite and I say this as someone who historically really doesn't like fish! My other half had the wine pairings and liked nearly all of them! The Muscat in particular was a special mention.

Found it quite randomly but so glad I did. Very hospitable, cosy restaurant with delicious food. Unlike the chain Italians , the pasta had deep flavour that I have never tasted out of my trip to Sicily. Normally not a huge fan of tiramisu but had to try it after other food was great, and as predicted , it did not disappoint.

It's a lovely little restaurant and we were the only diners on a bitterly cold Thursday night. Thursdays the lovely staff (husband and wife?) Informed us are often quiet. They were attentive without being obtrusive. I had risotto and pannacotta and my friend had a salmon dish and biscoff cheese cake. In both cases polishing the plate clean. A fine meal. It felt homely and very welcoming and the food is great and not expensive. Do go there!

We had a wonderful meal at La Spiga. The food was some of the very best fresh pasta and pizza we’ve had the pleasure of eating, outdoing much more expensive competition. The food is fresh, there’s clearly a lot of care that goes into it, and it all tastes brilliant. Plus it’s very reasonably priced! It’s not a white tablecloth sort of place but the quality of the food in a casual atmosphere is part of the charm. We’ll be back, often!

Delicious and tasty food in a cozy lovely place. We had a dish for two, which was a mixed grill platter and the portions were very generous, our group was 3 people and we couldn't finish everything on the plate. The lamb chops were really good, the ribs just tasted amazing, the hummus had perfect texture and their pita bread was very soft and delicious. We received great service from the staff as well, who even helped us book a taxi when we were leaving. Highly recommend it!

We stopped for lunch on our way to town. The menu offered mostly burgers options and some other variations. Initially I thought it was a bit of a limitation but I have actually enjoyed my burger so much that I do feel that it's better to have a shorter menu but with greater food! :)

Rating: 5 / 5

Not the sit-down restaurant a local news article suggested it was but some of the best pub grub you're likely to eat. The other reviews about their burgers are correct, they were *that* good. If I could have taken half a star off, I would as they were fairly inflexible with the options, in terms of the fries (you couldn't upgrade the fries to "dirty" ones and had to either pay full price for the meal and the side or end up with two lots of fries...) but the food was good so I'll let it slide! Would I come back? Sure. If I was out this way but I wouldn't make a trip especially.

**update on today's visit** Great breakfast, sausages amazing, my wife loved her avocado and poached eggs. My only criticism is this venue in notoriously slow at bringing your bill over. It happens every time we go. Nice friendly staff, always polite. Not the most attentive out there. Nicely decorated, light and airy. Would recommend. ______________________________________ We've now been here on several occasions, day and night. Overall the service, food and atmosphere is good. The live music was very entertaining during a mid week evening. Some of the lights are at eye level at night, which can be dazzling, otherwise the atmosphere and ambience would be great. We had to move tables because of the lighting arrangement. The food is (nearly) always cooked to a good to high standard. The service getting the bill can be slow. Overall this is certainly a recommended venue to visit in Tunbridge Wells. Keep up the good work, a few minor tweaks here and there and this will be a fantastic place.

En route heading back to London on a Sunday, we decided to grab food with us only wanting one thing. A Sunday roast. However with many pubs in the area we called around, checked reviews, even walking into some establishments that were always busy. On our hunt we came across TN1 Bar and Kitchen, and after visiting my outlook on bars has changed when it comes to getting a roast. Firstly when you walk into this bar, it's extremely modern, with a hint of quirkiness. It was nice & open with a lovely atmosphere that was busy yet chilled, and luckily a table of 4 was waiting for us. Whilst waiting to decide on our order we were pleasantly greeted and served drinks, before putting our order in which was easy from all the views and smells from other customers' plates. When your food arrives at the table so will a big smile on your face, as straight away the presentation confirms we made the right decision. The Pork Belly Roast dinner I had was not cooked to perfection, but is perfection. Everything on the plate held its own, dazzling my taste buds from every bite giving me that that homely Sunday feel inside. The portion size is perfect and if you have this without a starter, you'll feel more than satisfied yet in my case I forced what I couldn't eat as it was too good to leave on the plate. You can tell every detail was well thought through with the decor and menu options; wanting to give customers a great experience to ensure they return. If I lived near TN1, you'd find me here every Sunday without fail.

What an absolutely splendid dining experience I had. This cosy yet classed restaurant has a comforting atmosphere and the most attentive, joyous staff members you could ever want. However the food was without a doubt, the stars of the show - gorgeously hand crafted Asian fusion dishes that are simply the best. Every bite is nothing but perfection. I would most definitely recommend the fusion bao’s and honorable mentions to the Japanese leaf bites. As someone from Hong Kong I was more than pleased to find such comforting dishes that felt like home, the kindness of the staff deeply amplified the amazing experience “kumquat” offered to me and my family.
