The Plough and Barn at Leigh

Leigh Rd, Hildenborough, Tonbridge TN11 9AJ, UK | Wedding Venue
P: 01732 832149

Rating: 4.7 (614) Price Level:

Della, Becky and the whole team at the Plough delivered an unforgettable wedding day for us in September. From our first meeting they made a very stressful experience seem like nothing was an issue or too much trouble putting us at ease throughout. The venue itself looked beautiful, rustic and elegant which is exactly what we had in mind. The food was exceptional and we had lots of choice for the day. The day itself ran like clockwork, even with them having to deal with a slight delay. Any extras we wanted I.e specific wines or a gazebo putting up was never too much trouble for them and they were very accommodating to all our wishes. Thank you!

Nice relaxed country pub tucked away down a country road with decent ale on tap and reasonable food options ( lovely roast beef open sandwich and good soup!) - stopped here for refreshments and light lunch on a walk. Nice garden out the back with a small play area. Closed on Saturdays for weddings

Did a mini pub crawl missus was driving so all OK tried The little brown jug first, as an observer looked like good food coming out but very pricey £23 for cod n chips I don't think so, went to The Greyhound next even more expensive and the food didn't look great tbh. On to the Plough excellent reception from the guy behind the bar really welcoming and friendly, good knowledge of the available ales and happy to give a small sample ( helped as I found a really nice ale). Menu reasonably priced we weren't really hungry so just had the open roast beef and horseradish sandwich with chips, both excellent, can't speak for the rest of the menu but we will be back soon to try a more substantial meal. The guy from behind the bar (used to work polehill nursery) and the other member of staff were super friendly and a credit to this pub, of the three pubs all within 5 mins of each other this is the one. A***

My husband and I got married at The Plough in April and could not have wished for a better experience. We loved the pub and barn from our first visit - it was perfect for us. The experience just kept getting better - the planners are incredibly organised, the staff on the day were so friendly, and THE FOOD. So many of our guests commented afterwards on how good the food is! The venue is beautiful, regardless of whether you get sun, rain or snow and they set everything up exactly as asked. I cannot recommend them enough and THANK YOU to the whole team for ensuring our special day was one we'll remember forever. We'll be back for our anniversay!

This isn't a pub any more, they've changed it to a smart restaurant and B&B. We went for dinner and I had the salmon and prawn linguine and sticky toffee pudding. Both absolutely superb - this is not really gastropub food, it's more of a fancy restaurant vibe, and the food was delicious. Not an unreasonable price at all given the high quality. The restaurant has a quiet vibe and is beautifully decorated, but it's definitely not casual dining and it's not at all geared towards young children. The beer selection was small but perfectly good; I think it's far more focussed on wine. Good place for a special occasion. Service was really polite and friendly and attentive. Can highly recommend.

The Little Brown Jug

P: 01892 870318

Rating: 4.3 (1355) Price Level:

Brought the family to the Little Brown Jug to celebrate the mrs birthday and what a treat it was. The outside huts are well worth the money, being heated inside we took our time to enjoy our meal in privacy whilst the little ones played in the garden swings and slide. Service was amazing, the gentleman serving us was exceptional and catered to our every need, nothing was too much. Thanks for making our experience the best it could be, we highly recommend to others and we will certainly be back. Kind regards

An absolutely lovely pub that lives up to the hype. I’d heard about The Little Brown Jug for a while as one of the best pubs in the Kent area but hadn’t made it over there so me and my girlfriend jumped in the car and road tripped it up. It’s fair to say the pub lives up to its impeccable reputation. In a beautiful location with surrounding countryside and hills. The food is absolutely amazing with very generous portions with a warm, spaciously comfortable and buzzing atmosphere that makes you feel you’re in countryside nirvana. The pub also has a seamless team of staff who were always attentive but at no point overwhelming, and all of whom were good humoured, friendly and welcoming, with no delays in their smooth service. Ollie in particular was brilliant. It’s a must visit. Especially for any fans of food, drink, beautiful walks and country drives.

My partner and I visited this pub whilst we stayed at a local air bnb. We called ahead for a recommendation for a cab and Molly provided us with two options. The pub was lovely and quiet for the time and day we chose, Joel kindly offered us the corner table next to the fire which he lit for us as well. The interior was beautifully decorated and the outside looks amazing for warmer weather! Even still it looked as though they offered hot water bottles for outside. The service was relaxed and casual from the waitress Molly which was nice to not be fussed for that evening to have some privacy. The music was not suiting the vibe of the cosy interior, so we only asked Joel to turn it down just a touch- which he did happily but as well as that he changed the playlist to more jazz like music which was a lovely surprise! Molly did later changed it back to a more upbeat playlist not realising why Joel had changed it haha but it was slow mamma mia that time so it wasnt as bad. The food was absolutely amazing- the best Mac and cheese I have ever had at a restaurant before and Im a big lover of Mac! My partner only wishes his sausages to have been cooked a bit more. Otherwise we had an absolutely amazing evening for my 25th so thankyou! We would absolutely be regulars if we were not a 2 hour drive away!

Fleur De Lis

High St, Leigh, Tonbridge TN11 8RL, UK | Bar
P: 07380 463539

Rating: 4.2 (245) Price Level:

Lovely little pub for an afternoon out a short walk from Leigh station in Kent. Quite a bit of history here I suspect but I must admit I really haven't looked into this place too much. Mainly a restaurant (?) but has some tables out the front with several more out the back and I'm going to say has good wheelchair access. The Guinness was pretty good as was the Three Acre Brewery's Session Pale and Best Bitter

On our search for the best roast dinner we decided to give Fleur De Lis a go. Was not expecting much as it’s a chain pub but it was pretty good and surprised me. I went for the nut roast in a bid to cutting down my meat and it didn’t disappoint. Was really lovely but very filling so couldn’t finish it as I needed to save some room for dessert as the Sunday lunch is a set menu of £26 for two course - there is also a 3 course option. None of the starter options jumped out at me so opted for a main and dessert. So roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings for me are the toughest to get right and how everyone likes them. I loved the Yorkshire, felt really homemade and doughy not the airy types you often get so for me this was a winner. The rest was all pretty good. I had the rum and ginger cake for dessert which was gorgeous, it was like a sticky toffee pudding, sweet but the ginger balanced it well so I finished every single bit. Atmosphere wise, not much of an atmosphere and when we first walked into a table as we entered I felt like I was intruding a very local pub. Although a small restaurant it didn’t feel cramped and the decor is pretty nice, but the abandoned fish/lobster tank was a bit of an eye sore. Staff were really good and very attentive. My only criticism is a bit overpriced in comparisons to others locally and would have liked the option to just have one course.

The village has waited with baited breath for months for the Fleur to re-open following change of management in late 2021: and today we were not disappointed. Good selection of draught beers (inc. Punk/Camden/Beavertown Neck Oil) and 3 ales (would be good to see more local guest ales over time). Food pricey but very good. Decor much improved. Welcome back!!

I'm sure I visited the pub about 20 years ago and didn't think much of it then. It's has a huge makeover since then! It's a nice modern pub, in an old building but has kept its charm. I didn't eat here but it seemed very popular on that front. Might be worth ringing ahead.

We had a lovely meal at The Spotted Dog in Penshurst today.. we had a short wait for our table, as the pub was very busy when we got there! It's always a good sign. Lots of seating outside, and a fantastic view out the back. Parking is available across the road from the pub. The food was really good, we had a bit of a wait between courses, but again it was busy. Really old, beautiful pub, full of character. Well worth a visit.

One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever had! Crispy potato’s and super tasty cauliflower cheese and all the sides! Generous greyvy portions which is always a plus. And perfect Yorkie! Portion of the beef could have done with one more slice (only came with 2) but it was super tasty and cooked to perfection. Pork was equally delicious, good portion size and a really generous portion of crackling We had a lovely seat in the front room for us and the dog

We had a brilliant meal on New Year’s Eve. We have been to this pub a number of times over the last few years and something has always been lacking particularly with service however since the renovation everything was exceptional. The waitresses were always glancing round and keeping an eye on tables, topping up wine and were quick with any requests. We ordered the fillet steak and everything on the plate was excellent - well seasoned and delicious. The same for the starters and desserts too. We also enjoyed the live music. Thank you for a brilliant evening

Our first visit after the renovation. Much improved without removing features of the beautiful original building. Very busy (it was a Sunday) we enjoyed a small plate from the menu which was good. Tables are a little cramped and on this occasion most customers were accompanied by a dog/s. We like dogs but are not keen on eating with a dog a few inches from our food! (customers with dogs on laps) Would return but would be careful with seating arrangements.

We had a lovely roast here and the atmosphere was nice and olde worlde. It pays to book as it can get busy, but when we visited there were empty tables. Our only negative is that the food and drink are a bit pricey, but otherwise lovely. The pub is only 5 minutes drive from Hever Castle.
