Best food in Canterbury! Never tried this before - was blown away! Very friendly and chilled atmosphere, friendly people. Would come back next time I’m in Canterbury. We had the traditional meal and tea and both were amazing

Been a few times to this great little restaurant. The food is outstanding, try one of their mixed plates with injeera bread and a tasty Asmara beer.

Fabulous fresh and delicious food - the shiro was as good as I’ve had, lovely injera with a perfect sour tang, and the coffee with full ceremony is a joy. Best new place in Canterbury.

Food was excellent, reccomend the fish & chips personally but all food I've had here has been very good everytime. Downside no Guinness on tap 😱.

Had the Hot honey chicken burger but chose sriracha and chipotle aioli as the sauces instead of the hot honey. Whilst the people I was with had the regular smash burgers. It was probably the most flavourful chicken burger I’ve ever had, I don’t usually go for chicken burgers from fast food joints as it’s always dry, but theirs was so succulent, the sauces were so tasty. The tomato and veg in the burger were so fresh. I highly recommend this burger if you come here. The people I was with had smash burgers and both said it was the best burgers they’ve had. I had to agree big time. The cheese fries were heavenly too. Staff extremely nice and helpful, couldn’t have asked for a better experience and food. Highly recommend this place. I rarely trust wagons for various reasons/stereotypes but... One of the best traditional little snack wagons I've been to over the years, certainly in the area, the wagon is clean and looked after, the main lady knows her regulars and is friendly and welcoming to ones offs, the other staff also friendly and efficient. There are little touches from the thick white bread which works perfectly for the hearty fillings they handle, to the quality of meats to how it's presented and packed (often wax paper) that make this place better than most other snack wagons and better than many traditional or working cafe offerings these days. Food is made with precision and care as if it was your mum or sister making it for you.

Friendly welcome, quick, attentive service, fab pub grub and dog friendly. A quiet Tues eve (good value with free desert or starter) so not busy with diners but still a good number of locals having a pint. Eat in the bar if you have a dog.

Came for the sports day and had a great time. Great pub with lovely staff and atmosphere. Really charming young boy welcomed us and helped give some glitter tattoos to my daughters. He was a real little gentleman and must make his parents very proud!

We had a wonderful lunch at The Cook's Tale Restaurant in Canterbury! As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by Asher, our host, who was friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the menu. He made sure our dietary requirements were carefully addressed and guided us through the options. We opted for the Meat and Vegetarian Thali, and both were absolutely delicious — full of vibrant flavors and beautifully presented. What truly stood out was the exceptional service. During our meal, Chef Alfie came over to check on us, asking if we were enjoying our food and if we had any feedback. It was a lovely personal touch that made the experience even more memorable. The restaurant itself had a cosy, festive atmosphere, with Christmas decorations adding a warm touch to the environment. Overall, a fantastic dining experience, with excellent food, great service, and a welcoming ambience. Highly recommended!

I have been visiting The Cook’s Tale for at least eight years now and I always have a wonderful experience. The food is simply delicious! It's fine dining quality at a mid-range price. If you are able to take advantage of one of their monthly deals, it's insanely good value for money. The service has always been very attentive. As a vegetarian I love the quantity and variety of vegetarian dishes - it's clear they aren't some afterthought. Something else that I really appreciate about The Cook’s Tale is that unlike many other restaurants in a similar price range they don't automatically add gratuity to the bill, it's left to you to decide how much you want to tip. If you are considering visiting The Cook’s Tale, stop thinking and go now! You won't regret it.

Wonderful cuisine with amazing flavours and loads of tasty surprises. If you want a 5 star experience don't forget to book well in advance. Knowledgeable and friendly staff complete the experience. Not your average spice house. One of the best I have ever tasted. Enjoy !!

Wow, what an amazing experience. Came here for our 23rd anniversary meal, and went for the 12 course tasting menus with matched wines. After the first couple of courses I was a little worried that we would not be full by the end, but by the end of the tenth course we were both struggling to take another bite. Had the food not been so good, we may have given up, but it was amazing and we persevered, and now we are both uncomfortably full but so happy with what we have eaten. The service was impeccable, you rarely get it so good in this country. The food was rich, delicious and wholesome, and varied enough to keep the most eclectic palate happy. The wines were incredibly well paired, and each one delicious in their own right, but elevated to another level with the paired food. It is a little off the beaten track, but worth going out of your way to find. No regrets at all with choosing this marvellous restaurant, we will be singing praises to our friends and family and would heartily recommend to anyone.

Some of the best dishes I have ever tasted. A beautiful setting, attentive staff. Great wine list with plenty of affordable options by the glass, designed for experimentation. But the food is by far the brightest star. The savoury blue cheese cheesecake with beetroot jam is the most stunning dish I have tasted this year; and the flavour will be something I remember for years to come. Everything was excellent, but also deserving of special mention was the dark chocolate torte with hazelnuts blackberry sorbet. A stunning mixture of flavours, executed perfectly.

Went for lunch with my Mum, excellent service and very good value set menu. I had the flat iron steak with a side of delicious chips. Unfortunately my steak was overdone, I asked for medium but it was well done-I didn't mention it at the time-i'm sure they would have made me another if I made a fuss, but it was still OK. Mum had fish pie which she enjoyed. Treacle tart for desert was very good.

We had a lovely dinner with the family. Very child friendly restaurant. The ambiance and food are fantastic! We highly recommend the Beef Wellington. Their home made ice-cream is delicious too. Definitely recommend!!!

The food was exceptional as was the wine selection which included a number of English vineyards. We chose the â la carte menu and were very pleased with the choices. I suppose the only comment we would make is that it's basically a pub albeit an elevated one and the service reflects that. Which doesn't mean that anyone was rude - far from it - but there was a fair bit of shouting and loud talking in/out of the kitchen and up/down the bar. My expectation when paying £75pp is that the staff would perhaps be a little more circumspect but in no way did it detract from the absolutely amazing food.

We have dined here for a special occasion. The fire place was on and it added to overall atmosphere. We went for a longer menu. It was one of the best meals of our lives. Especially the lobster was just amazing. Every little piece was perfectly executed and balanced. Oysters were delicious as well. And the wine selection is very extensive.

An incredible experience, all round. The service, food and atmosphere were outstanding. I love the fact that this restaurant doesn't have a 'stuffy' vibe. It's top class but in a relaxed way. Will definitely be going back.

We sat outside under the heaters and beside the stream. In spite of being the only ones outside the servers were responsive and attentive. The food was nice but did not blow us away. For the price we were very happy with our lunch.

We had a lovely time here. The lamb dish was our absolute favourite but the others were all very good as well. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back!

Got the Mushroom Fettuccine, a Gin Cocktail with elderflower and shared a sticky toffee pudding. The food was so good, with good portions that were not too large. The sticky toffee pudding was heavenly! The service and ambience were also excellent, our servers were quick to give us recommendations and were warm and friendly. Would definitely come back when we are in Canterbury again!

Busy Bank Holiday weekend, garden full even at 12:30 I told my friend to book just in case and glad we did. I've eaten here on a number of occasions and never been disappointed. Today was no exception, the staff are friendly and the food is generally a high standard, not too cheap but good portions and tasty sauces, whatever some negative reviewers might say. I first came here in the early 1980's when it was a much smaller pub with a small counter by the corner and people playing domino's and shove Ha penny at the bar or cribbage! It's got bags of character and simple seating with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Be sure to ring and book just in case! Great place to start or end a walk from! Often full of walkers and cyclists as well as car trade! Small car park at rear of property, if you have elderly or disabled guests drop them off before parking as the pub is located overlooking the former quarry pits in the valley below!

We stumbled across this little gem after a university open day. The pub is stuck in the past with parking facilities, a nice back garden and a lovely menu. Service was outstanding as well. be aware do not accept amex. Anyway all thumbs up

Never disappoints. Fantastic food again. Ribeye, Steak Pie, Chicken wrapped with blue cheese, treacle tart, sticky toffee pudding to name but a few. Highly recommended and great service Bonifee dessert was lovely too.

Old pub, new management. We came along unannounced on a dark winter’s evening and had a very warm welcome - not only from the new owners but from their 3-dog entourage (a pointer, ‘Smartie’, and an accompanying duo of dachshunds). I had a burger and unusually was asked how I would like it, like they do in France with steak haché, which was a nice touch. It was extremely good, chunky pickled gherkins and all. My partner enjoyed a crispy chunk of salmon too. We wish The Old Yew Tree much luck!
