Fennel Tapas

Rating: 4.8 (20) Price Level:

We’ve enjoyed several vegetarian meals at Fennel now- & it seems to have become our go-to spot for a cosy vibe, and pleasantly friendly service. The food is delicious and often surprises with its creativity and flavour. Always exciting to see what’s on the menu each visit. A culinary jewel at the top of Lyme Regis.

An absolutely delicious meal - couldn't fault the food at Fennel Tapas! We especially enjoyed the hibiscus spritz cocktail, light and crispy Frito misto (mullet and squid), hake w/leeks & pancetta and the cacciocavalo cheese w/honey! Friendly service and welcomed us and our spaniels!

Delicious tapas, could not stop ordering more of the aubergine dish. Both of us are vegetarian, but there was enough choice to make a very interesting and yummy veggie meal, would recommend and we’re definitely going again

One of the best meals I have ever had in my life. Nothing disappointing or negative to say. We had to wait for a table we really didn't mind, as it was just clear that everyone was there having a great time and the waitress kept check in she was great. But star of the show...the food was just fabulous. Cannot rate it highly enough. Simple but complex, tasty and high quality. My god my mind is blown.

Fennel Tapas is our go to supper spot in Lyme Regis. It's the best food around. Small plates - that are big enough to share with four! The menu changes weekly with the most delicious local produce. As soon as your welcome drink arrives, you know you're going to have a mind blowing meal (and delicious wine to go with). Super reasonably priced, exceptional quality, very pleased to have such a yummy place to eat in Lyme.

Millside

1 Mill Ln, Lyme Regis DT7 3PU, UK | Seafood Restaurant
P: 01297 445999

Rating: 4.8 (367) Price Level:

Dropped by for dinner, where I ordered the scallops, mackerel and rhubarb clafoutis. Everything was beautifully prepared. Saying that, it must have been an off night, as the kitchen team seemed to have encountered a few challenges when prepping the meals. But, it all ended well as the service team handled everything professionally resulting in both a comped dessert AND an extra dessert. All done voluntarily without me even having to bring up any of the issues myself. The only thing I would suggest for the future is it might be worth investing in an air purifier or fan to help move the air in the restaurant. Because it was pouring rain outside at the time, I noticed the space was locking in various odours from other guests such as BO, perfume and cigarette smoke. As a result, I found that I couldn’t really smell the dishes. As a fine dining establishment, I suspect it is preferred that such smells not interfere with the dining experience carefully curated by your team.

God ! Where do I start? From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the most amazing smile of Gemma and Georgina. You’re sat in a lovely listed building with a lot of history. The food ? Unholy ! Tempura oysters/normal oysters are the freshest I’ve ever had. Scallops are hand dived and served on a bed of sweet onion purée and puffed black rice for a crunch. The lobster served with fries and salad was divine, I have no idea what they do to their butter but it’s abysmally delightful and this is just lunch! I can imagine the dinner experience is incredible with the place full of positive energy and vibes. The chefs in the kitchen are very well trained by the chef-owner as well as the front of house team ran by Gemma. If you’re lucky you might even meet Mark and Teddy the Parrot ! The wine perfectly pairs with whatever dish you’re having, always ask for a recommendation as the guys know their wines. All in all I will always come here when I’m back in Lyme Regis. Unfortunately in Bournemouth we do not have such a hidden gem anywhere. Such a shame I can only give 5 stars as I would like to give them the whole Milky Way !

My boyfriend and I were holidaying in Lyme over the weekend, both from Birmingham, we have plenty of restaurants in the city… yet Millside is the best meal we have had so far in 2024! Such a beautiful setting and a intimate dining experience. Although a small menu for mains, the starters are varied. I tried the escargot which our waiter recommended - who knew snails tasted so good! My boyfriend had the half lobster and I tried rump steak, also for the first time. Both dishes were presented beautifully and provided explosions of flavour with each bite, I’ll be dreaming of this meal for weeks! Thank you for such a wonderful meal and such attentive service.

Amazing seafood in a very cozy location. It's close to the beach and you can reach it via a slightly hidden path that brings you pass the old mill. Very welcoming family business, I'd come back to any time.

I only found this secret gem by chance. It's at the Cob end of the harbour, nestled amongst the shops, with a tunnel - like entrance. The coffee is the best I've tasted All week! Wow! Plus it had that gorgeous real coffee Aroma! The home made soup and granary bread was delicious, and filling. Plus the staff and service were friendly and helpful, without being intrusive, Bless. My only disappointment was that I only discovered it on my last day. I'm so glad, I didn't pass by.

Lilac Restaurant

57-58 Broad St, Lyme Regis DT7 3QF, UK | Restaurant
P: 07733 132523

Rating: 4.9 (134) Price Level:

We didn't book, and the restaurant was full, but the server offered us the bar table or outside dining, and as it as a sunny warm evening we landed on the outdoor dining. This is a rare find. Not only was the outdoor dining stylish and intimate, it offered wonderful service, and a 10/10 experience. The dinner was wonderful, from small bites all the way to the main the meal was wonderful. The menu is seasonal and delicious, this was a menu that didn't offer comfortable favourites, but diverse delicious plates that we talked about all the way home. They even made us a tailor made cocktail which was spicy and lovely. We had 3 servings. We are thrilled we got in, and would recommend it to anyone who is a food lover.

Upscale menu in an unpretentious basement "cave." Small plate (and I mean small!) offerings of exquisitely executed dishes that present a culinary experience for the palate. I wish there were 30% more on every dish we sampled (wouldn't really describe it as "ate," given the amount). But... they were all quite well done. You just need to order a lot of dishes. We had the Flatbread w Pickled Ewe's Cheese, Fig & Roasted (yumm) Pumpkin Seeds, Beetroot Carparccio (outstanding take), Soused Mackerel, Dartmoor Lamb (tender), Polenta w Girolles (mushroon), Ricotta & Cheddar, Fennel Truffles (not to miss for a chocolate lover) & Apricot & Thyme Sorbet (the only small miss: would have preferred a gentler herb like mint).

Exceptional food, locally sourced and foraged. The chef often came out to serve the dishes and was more than happy to talk about the ingredients, where he had foraged some of them and how the dish was made. Every plate was well conceived, light and tasty, even the bigger dishes such as the ox cheek or venison. Wine suggestions were excellent and every wine we tried was surprising and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, the venue small and welcoming. This rates as one of the best food experiences I've had. Get there now while it's still small and relatively undiscovered because it deserves to get better known and booked up months in advance.

Came here for dinner for my partners birthday from London. Fantastic little restaurant in a great location. Beautiful, simple decor and super friendly staff. Lovely seasonal menu with a great selection of vegetarian, fish and meat fishes from the area. The 'soused mackerel' was my favourite and the frangipane desert were exquisite. The wine was local and divine. Great experience and a great meal.

Lyme Regis Brewery

Rating: 4.8 (347) Price Level:

A great little bar! We've been coming here for about 10 yrs maybe and it always has a nice friendly atmosphere, great beers, larger and cider. there are also soft drinks and crisps but no food. Usually you'll find a seat somewhere and other drinkers are happy to share their tables. It's in a nice central spot with a car park and dinning options close by. It's dog friendly, children are also allowed if not going bonkers all over the place. It's wheelchair accessible to the outside seating area but unfortunately it wouldn't be possible inside I think but the bar is so close to the door that making a drink choice could be made from outside easily. The staff are friendly and the prices are about average for nowadays. All in all its well worth stopping in and enjoying a nice drink and a little break form the beach 👍

Small micro brewery located on the far eastside of very pretty Lyme Regis. It's in an area where there is also a gallery where local artists display their paintings, pottery shop, mill museum, pretty small restaurants with al fresco dining and a pretty small garden by a stream. They served 3 different local beers on draught and also sold bottled beer and souvenir clothing. Upstairs and outdoor seating is comfortable and stylish. Refreshing a glass of beer for a nice sunny day by the coast.

Strawberry Tree

The Town Mill, Mill Ln, Lyme Regis DT7 3PU, UK | Spanish Restaurant
P: 01297 445757

Rating: 4.8 (150) Price Level:

I would have missed this place completely, as it’s in between the two main shopping streets in town, and boy would I have been missing a treat. With its delicious (very authentic) tapas and fabulous cocktails, this cosy little restaurant is well worth a visit. Charming staff too. The Prawns pil-pil were the highlight for me…I felt like I was back in Spain…but my wife enjoyed the croquetas more…but everything was good. This will be top of my list for next time we’re in Lyme Regis…and I will probably try to sync up my visit with one of their cooking classes - I’ve always felt scared to try making paella but I would bet that fear will evaporate after a class here.

Undertook a Paella Cooking Course - what a fantastic day! The instructional process is relaxed, informative and fun, one of the best cookery courses I have experienced. Ed and Giselle are both passionate and enthusiastic about Spanish cooking, which comes across in abundance during the course. Highly recommended. will definitely book another Spanish cooking experience as well as booking a table for dinner.

Had a fabulous evening here on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The warmth and welcome of the place was fantastic and despite not having booked, we were made very welcome (a party of 19 was about to turn up at any minute as well) The staff were engaging, knowledgeable and polite. Owners Ed and Giselle were charming and our waitress, Emma from Manchester was great fun.) The food – small Tapas plates, was amazing. The Pig Cheeks with Prunes and Sherry, Chicken Skewers with Micro Herbs and Yoghurt, Cod Cheeks in Tomato Sauce and the Canaries Style potatoes with Mojo-Rojo Sauce – were delicious. The Burnt Cheesecake with Cinnamon Apples to finish was divine – you must try to pay them a visit.

Not going to lie, the food was kinda ruined by a sodding seagull. We bought three chorizo pasties and some cake to takeaway, and whilst I was attempting to give a bit to my daughter some VERY confident seagull swooped in took the WHOLE THING 🤯 Quickly learned a very important lesson about Lyme Regis, and that’s eat your food with caution 😂 Oh, we also bought some lemon olive oil and some smoked sea salt. Sure, it’s more expensive than you’d pay in a supermarket, but so it should be. We like coming away and support random places that we find, and the whole “Mill Lane” area is quite nice and picturesque. The type of place I could imagine spending a nice afternoon with my wife. Alas, we had three young kids so we didn’t really fancy sitting in a small restaurant 😅 honestly, they’re too chaotic for that. But yeah, if you’re in the area and fancy giving somewhere nice a visit, then give Strawberry Tree a crack 👌🏻 just be AWARE OF SEAGULLS.

Tom's Lyme Regis

Rating: 4.5 (276) Price Level:

Hubby and I stopped here this evening whilst passing through Lyme Regis on gallery deliveries. It was around 5:30pm and quite a few places were closed but Tom’s had twinkling fairy lights and looked very inviting as we walked along the prom. We only wanted two latte’s as we still had a long drive ahead of us but we received a friendly welcome and took a seat outside. The coffee came in a large cup and was delicious! Hot and fresh and perfect for sipping whilst enjoying the fresh air and watching the waves rolling in. The restaurant is beautiful and the menus sounds great - I’m only sorry we could stay for dinner but I have bookmarked Tom’s place on my Google Map and definitely aim to stop by for lunch next time we’re in the area! Thanks guys, you’re doing everything right! Keep up the good work :)

We went there twice in early September. Food was spectacular. The half lobster was an absolute delight and the local sea food was all so fresh . The local cider was delicious. Best part was the cheery chat and repartee, patience and knowledge of the staff. Great sitting outside looking across the bay where we had had a great fishing trip that afternoon.

Dropped into Tom's as we were after a decent seafood restaurant whilst we were in Devon. Well worth a try. Tom is a Royal Academy of Culinary Arts trained chef and he is front and centre of the restaurant plating up in front of the guests. We had the John Dory and Sea bream that were both delicious. His team were brilliant with our kids and gave them colouring in to do and made a fuss of them which was great. Wishing them all the best!

We had an outstanding dinner here. Loved all of the dishes really. Excellent flavors and all well prepared and cooked. The scallops (a new variation on Tom’s dish from what we understood) may have stolen the show but the lobster and Dartmoor Beef were absolute contenders. A fresh plate of oysters. Great service and we felt well attended to. Beautiful views of the coast. We left our experience ready to recommend to others and will do so in this post as well. Food from a kitchen that cares. Kudos to the whole team.

After wandering around Lyme Regis we found this little gem. Probably the most underpriced restaurant I have visited. The food is incredible. The burgers are perfect and not greasy. Everything is fresh. The batter on my fish was the lightest and crispiest I have had. The fish was perfectly cooked, not in the slightest bit oily. The hospitality is excellent. Very quirky and such a pleasure to have found this restaurant. Will be going back soon, although it's a 50mile trip its worth it.

Tye barmaid was excellent and worked her bar with style, the owners myst make sure to keep her and pat her well she earns her money and with her brilliant technique makes you money. I ate scampi and chips and my partner burger and chips both were good. We enjoyed our food with a beer and cider. The locals are lucky people.

Stayed here for 1 night on a Friday, very friendly welcome. We stayed in the 'Green Room, a double bed with a large balcony with fabulous views over the bay. The room was very comfortable and clean with checkin from 4.00pm and check out by 10.00am. No parking but large car park a few minutes walk away at Woodmead Car Park. This is a popular pub with good atmosphere. The pub clearly state the you will be able to hear custmers talking and if a Friday / Saturday then you will hear the live music. Best to check for events on their website if you want to avoid those evenings. For Lyme Regis this is great value for money.
