“Such a special place. Can't beat it. Frequented the place when we lived in Dorset & come back on every visit. Visited today after a lovely walk from Worth on the Priest's Way, down to Dancing Ledge for a swim & back along the coast to Windspit before heading to The Square & Compass for a Pint & a Pasty. Nowt fancy, just good honest food at a good price. Couldn't ask for better.”

After a lovely sunny walk we ended up at the Square & Compass. We had an ale and mulled cider with a steak pasty and a chicken leek and bacon pie. Service was quick and the staff were polite and friendly. We sat in one of the snugs. The whole place is a living museum and you step back in time once you cross the threshold. Service is through a hatch in line with the entrance, it became very congested very quickly with only a few people being present. Not so easy to navigate once you add a tray with drinks and food on it.

Keep it simple, a selection of pasties, a sausage roll, and a steak pie, plus some good cider/beer. Served from a hatch which does admittedly cause a bit of a queue, but eaten on tables outside in the sun was worth the wait. Don't miss sticking your head inside to the museum room on the far left and the atmospheric lounge on the right.

All sorts of pasties is the only menu. Lots of different beers to choose from and the most amazing view, it's on a hill and best to experience when sunny. Outside seating is really unusual on lumps of stone or wooden benches.

“I had lunch at the restaurant of Mortons Manor after a nice walk from Wareham to Corfe Castle. The hotel is located close to the entrance of the castle and has a parking lot, which is very useful in the small (and beautiful) town. The service was great and the food really good Also, prices are fair, particularly if you consider the quality of the ingredients. I definitely recommend this place.”

“We stayed in the village for the last week of April 2023. Terribly bad of me to be composing a review this late. We were a short walk from the pub so it soon became our local. The food and service was consistently excellent! There were always interesting specials available. The next time we hop across the pond from Canada to Corfe Castle, this pub will definitely be visited again!”

“National Trust site. Good walk up and around so good shoes needed. Extra bits for kids to do. £12 each admission, which I think is top end. Lovely views. Nice little shops and cafes around the castle. Lovely and clean. Toilets on site which were clean enough for the level of trade. Looking forward to going back and seeing how the restoration work is going. Negatives: There was a bit more of the castle that you could see if you paid extra but for me £12 was already alot. Could do with a few more bins around.”

“Our experience at the Old Granary left us with mixed emotions and sadly we won't return. this was our third lunch here and we were excited to bring a good friend with us. We are not local to the area and had not vistied on a Saturday before. On our arrival we were surprised to find that the parking area was filled with a market and we had no idea where we could park. We pulled over and our guest popped in to enquire as to where we could find parking. He was met by a frosty unhelpful lady who shrugged and said she didn't know, and by her attitutude she didn't care either. Fortunately when stopping the gentleman also assiting at front of house, some directions to parking were proferred. The first impression for our guest though was not what we had hoped for. Our table was in a loud and busy area, which would have made it impossible for conversation, something to note when making your booking. Fortunately, and a plus on the service experience, we were able to be seated in a quieter area. The Old Granary is an attractively detailed pub and we liked the decor. Issey, our server was fabulous. Great smile, engaging and she rescued the lunch on the whole. Food wise, we had the Larder sharing platter which was well presented and tasty, classic fish and chips, the chicken and bacon pie, and the sirloin. The sirloin was not the best and quite pricey even for steak, and was a bit of a disappointment. After a rainy day the sun evetually broke through the clouds and we wanted to take advantage of the deck area alongside the river for a drink and dessert. As requested duly settled our account and headed outside with our drinks, I popped inside for a menu to be told by front of house that because of the weather no food was being served outside, not even dessert. This was in case the rain returned and we needed to come inside and tables were not available. It was late afternoon, between sittings with many empty tables, and when settling our lunch bill I had stated we wanted to have dessert outside and was told that this would not be a problem. We were a table of 3 an our bill was about £50per person... Overall not very hospitable, and not what we expected from our previous lunches a disappointing end to our afternoon.”

“We had such a lovely time at the model village and gardens. My first ever model village! It's very impressive. Can't imagine all the work that has gone in to it. You can see the love! Was really good to have it be dog friendly too and they both had a lot of fun too.”

“This was a really good choice for lunchtime. We had travelled to Corfe after visiting Durdle Door beach. This place is much bigger than it first looks. We chose to sit outside as it was such a nice day. It was a very authentic menu but I chose to have a fish burger. It was really yummy so tasty. I thought it worked well. The staff were great considering it was very busy. They didn't miss us away in the corner. Really good choice.”

“Chose this place as it was the nearest to where we we staying that was dog friendly and just wanted a reasonable pub meal. My expectations were blown away, the service was great and the food was even better. My wife had the fish and chips which was an excellent sized portion with fresh mushy pees and tartare sauce. I had the burger which was absolutely perfect. Pub Burgers can quite often be disappointing but not here, it was cooked to perfection and full of flavour being char/flame grilled, possibly the best burger I have eaten. Sadly we were too full to sample the dessert menu but will hopefully be back again in the future. Our Labrador isn’t particularly used to dinning out so we were concerned how he’d behave, the owner welcomed us in and even provided a special treat for him. As a result we had a very pleasant relaxing meal. 10/10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Thank you”
