A little piece of Dorset heaven. The atmosphere of rural charm, the diversion of the vintage shop and the great food, cakes and tea make this one of my favourite spots.

Fabulous cakes (not just the usual) including a gooseberry cake with meringue, all genuinely homemade: unique atmosphere: incredible welcome from Petr on a typical English summer day… pouring with rain! But outside ( on a different day) charming setting and great views plus wildlife pond. Not too mention beautiful hand made quilts for sale… very tempting on a chill June afternoon !

This is, literally, in my top 10 places in the whole of England. It's the combination of the wonderful Petra, her delicious food and spectacular home-made cakes, the glorious higgledy-piggledy garden and gorgeous views (or covered area if it's raining), the cards and crafts, the vintage quilts and antiques next door... But more than anything, the place is suffused with soul, and love. I find myself a happier person whenever we swing by. If Starbuck's is your thing, then PetrAnnette's cafe may not be for you, but if you revel in the one-off, the independent, the joyful and the dappled, then, like me, you will be in heaven. Petra, you are The Best. x Jon

Cracking little village pub, we popped in for a few drinks with friends and had a great time, we sat in the garden in the sun and it was extremely pleasant. Will be going back for some food in the future.

We stopped in while visiting from America. I would consider the White House to be an upscale pub. The ambience is great! Lots of stone and heavy wooden beams. There were lots of locals there when we were there which is always a good sign. The staff was wonderful! The food was truly excellent! Every starter and entree was done to perfection! If we lived in the area we would be here often!

The Clockspire Restaurant

Gainsborough, Milborne Port, Sherborne DT9 5BA, UK | Restaurant
P: 01963 251458

Rating: 4.8 (319) Price Level:

Oh my! ♥ What a magical experience visiting The Clockspire was. Where do I begin to describe the care and detail oozing from both the staff and the food, it truly is clear to see, even the toilet hand towels were folded beautifully! We decided to opt for an expensive treat due to a special birthday, but the restaurant also offers a very affordable day menu, so I would recommend for both a stunning meal out and for celebrating occasions.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable and delicious dining experience at the Clockspire Restaurant this evening. Food was excellent along with the service. The old school building has been beautifully restored and creates a delightful surrounding and atmosphere, complimenting the whole experience. This has just become my favorite restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night at Plumber Manor. The staff were without exception helpful, friendly and efficient. We had a beautifully cooked dinner and the breakfast was first-rate. I have been all over the world and have stayed and dined at numerous hotels. Since 1991 I have stayed several times, every year, at Plumber Manor and I can in all honesty say that I have nowhere felt as comfortable and at home as in that wonderful little Country Hotel tucked away in lovely Dorset. Also the food and wine list are superb and the fact that Plumber Manor was elected best Hotel in Southern England in 2024 is totally justifiable.

We would definitely visit again and we thank you for an enjoyable and memorable evening. Lin and family.

Made so welcome with our puppy on a really wet, windy Sunday. We were wet, the puppy was trying hard to be good. The Big Stur breakfast was epic. Filling and great ingredients. Such a beautiful cafe, full of character and charm. Have visited a few times, with friends and with family. Each time I have visited, the service has been so welcoming, warm and friendly. The cakes are exceptional, the brownies in particular are a must try! The food is great value for money, so tasty and freshly cooked. We are so lucky to have this cafe in our town! (Also dog friendly with a little jar of biscuits on the side which I feel is a lovely extra bonus!)

This was our third time eating here and once again it didn't disappoint. There were 4 of us and we shared a number of dishes, all of which were delicious. The restaurant was busy with a great atmosphere and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Our waitress was brilliant and very patient with us as we tried to decide what to order. The manager was also very friendly, chatting to everyone and making sure we were all enjoying our meal. We will definitely be back.

The Plume Of Feathers

Half Moon St, Sherborne DT9 3LN, UK | Pub
P: 01935 389709

Rating: 4.5 (434) Price Level:

Lovely late lunch. Quality food and friendly, accommodating staff. The outside looks fairly drab and some of the Italian signage is slightly incongruous (are Wadsworths synonymous with Italian dining? No), but don't be put off, the inside is far, far better with modern styling in a traditional setting. Not cheap but where is these days.

What a surprise treat! I visited this restaurant with family when staying in the area for a weekend away, and what a gorgeous find this was! Situated right in the heart of Sherborne (which is a charming town to visit regardless) this restaurant was just fabulous. The menu was fab, tapas dishes inspired by Italy but using West Country produce - what's not to love! Staff were friendly and accommodating, the drinks selection was vast and impressive and the food quality was truly 10/10. Would definitely be back if I lived closer! This place gets very busy over weekend so definitely book in advance, and also would recommend arriving for an earlier sitting rather than later before it gets too busy.

Small plates, order at least 3 each and share, great selection and good quality. Dog friendly every where in the restaurant. I found it a bit complicated, it's a bit like Spanish Tapas and our total bill was around £70 it soon mounts up.

Absolutely gorgeous pub situated centrally in the lovely historic town of Sherborne in Dorset. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We stayed in The Hayloft for one night, like a lovely mini apartment overlooking the courtyard of the pub. Super comfy bed, great little bathroom and really lovely breakfast in the morning.

An incredible meal at the plume! We were turned away from another restaurant despite having a reservation, but when we came to the Plume they were happy to help and sat us promptly. The meal was absolutely delicious and filled us up nicely. We had 6 dishes between 4 adults and were stuffed! The service was great and the atmosphere was so lovely.

The Royal Oak

6 Dorchester Hill, Milborne St Andrew, Blandford Forum DT11 0JG, UK | Pub
P: 01258 837248

Rating: 4.7 (830) Price Level:

I have driven past this pub on more occasions than I could probably mention and always said must try that one. Well today was the day and so pleased that I did! I can honestly say this was one of the best (if not the best) pub food I have ever had. Our table of four all had different dishes and every single one was outstanding quality with a generous portion. Personally I opted for the ploughman's asking for it without the meat element which wasn't a problem at all. An excellent selection, fresh and tasty. I would highly recommend booking, even for lunch, as it was busy, and it's really not surprising why. The service was friendly and a good pub atmosphere made it a great experience and all at a fair price too. This will most definitely not be the last visit to this highly recommended Dorset pub. If you haven't been then add it to your 'must visit' list, but don't leave it as long as I did.

We went there yesterday as a group of 15 and they were absolutely brilliant. We had the skittle alley to ourselves so the kids could play with the selection of toys in there which worked perfectly. We had a variety of meals across the table and everyone said how delicious it was. The pork belly bites as a starter were a definite stand out. Thank you to all the lovely team who served us.

The pubs staff were friendly and funny, not just robots and also not too cheeky it becomes weird. The portions were the size youd give yourself at a buffet. The price was fine. And the menu had a decent selection. I had the pie and it almost had more stake than my girlfriends ribeye. Highly recommend.

A Dorset gem. I've only ever had the Sunday Carvery here because it's fantastic value (£14.50) and absolutely delicious. I always end up asking for a box so there is bubble and squeak to go home with! The staff are great and friendly. I'd say this is a proper pub and Sunday lunch experience! Booking very much recommended they are popular.
