Sixpenny Brewery Ltd
Holwell Farm, Wimborne BH21 5QP, UK

“Delightful micro brewery on an old farm in the wilds of Dorset. Great beers and peaceful setting. Loads of outdoor space so no need to worry that the bar is very small. On top of all this they have a lively entertainment programme. When we went they had an open microphone afternoon with some very good musicians including the amazing Fleetwood Unchained.”

“The site is lovely, very clean and well appointed and good value for money. But the best part is the onsite restaurant and bar. Not only is is great value, but the food is superb, just look at the T-bone steak. This was seasoned and cooked to perfection. My wife’s duck was nicely cooked and seasoned. The Eaton mess was probably one of the tastiest we’ve ever had. Apparently the Sunday Roast is amazing, so we’ve booked our table and will post a review regarding this. The restaurant is open to none residents, Wednesday night is Steak Night!”

“Located in the countryside, it had the local pub vibe, everyone was nice, the place was warm, the drinks were cold and the food exceptional. Could not recommend something in particular, because we had few dishes and one was better than the other. Also pets are allowed inside, which is awesome. Not regarding the location, if you are not staying at the Royal Oak, you need to book some transport in advance which is pretty expensive(we paid 65 pounds for a local gentleman to take us to and from the pub, for 8 miles in total). They have suggestions on their website.”

Alex, Julia and Georgie went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. Thank you. Fabulous food too so many thanks to the chef as well. King John Inn
Benches Ln, Tollard Royal, Salisbury SP5 5PS, UK

“Having decided to spend Christmas away from home, we found the King John Inn which fulfilled our criteria: a comfortable room for four nights, dog friendly, and a good Christmas lunch. Just before we left home we received a welcome call. On arrival, we received a very warm welcome, including a treat for our dog. We were shown to a lovely big room with huge bathroom, which proved to be extremely comfortable - including the supersize bed. Facilities included ground coffee for a cafetière and specialist black tea and a small thermos of fresh milk. Brilliant. We dined in on our first evening. We chose only starters but added truffle and pecorino fries. Delicious. The fries were the best I’ve had anywhere. Next day we joined for breakfast. The most creative menu I’ve seen anywhere. Again, our terrier was greeted with a treat - a tasty cut up sausage. Our room was serviced whilst we were out and on return, we found a lovely big dog bed had been added to our room. On to Christmas Day lunch at the King John which was indistinguishable from a perfectly home-cooked lunch. Impressive. My only niggle was that my Christmas pud was badly burnt and too hard to cut into. I could have asked for another but I’d had consumed more than enough to eat so to complain was unnecessary on a day when all staff were very busy. So, to sum up. A delightful Christmas break in an extremely comfortable Inn with exceptional service. They definitely go above and beyond to ensure their guests have a great experience. A huge thank you to every member of staff we met and those behind the scenes. We can’t wait to return.”
