JUNE 2023
multiple visits. Drinking đŸș and eating. 😎 weather days, was very lively. Young, energetic, friendly staff. We had catch of the day.. Mussels with potatoes.. worked well. Tasty. Proper pub
QUIZ NIGHT Wednesday evening. Lively. Short and sweet
met up with a local couple of friends at the Ship Inn and we suffered a ‘breakdown in communication’ they’d eaten and we hadn’t 😳. The lovely landlady feeling sorry for us (as they had no chef on that evening) let us bring in Fish, chips and mushy peas from the Lyme Fish Bar opposite. Much appreciated. Very tasty IPA đŸș proper local pub 👍😊👏đŸș. Quality landlady 👍

After wandering around Lyme Regis we found this little gem. Probably the most underpriced restaurant I have visited. The food is incredible. The burgers are perfect and not greasy. Everything is fresh. The batter on my fish was the lightest and crispiest I have had. The fish was perfectly cooked, not in the slightest bit oily. The hospitality is excellent. Very quirky and such a pleasure to have found this restaurant. Will be going back soon, although it's a 50mile trip its worth it.

One of the best locations in Lyme! Right on the sea front with some amazing views. Great food and even better service. Could not fault the team and their level of service they gave us. Good value and worth the time to visit if you're in the area.

Came tonight for my step dad’s birthday meal. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, food was so good, unpretentious, great quality, more than your usual pub food. I had the chorizo and pie from the specials menu, absolutely lovely. All six of us cleared our plates. The serving staff and Dan the manager were so nice and friendly. Would definitely recommend, thoroughly enjoyable.

Very friendly place to eat and dogs are welcome too. I had the fish and chips and I think it was the best I've ever had. Crispy thin batter, nice thick piece of fish (fresh I think) and delicious minted crushed peas plus chunky chips. The only issue was the front and rear doors were open the whole time and I was a bit cold sitting inside. I would recommend.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here before visiting the Marine Theatre. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, food was excellent, I had whole plaice which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the steak and ale pie with roasted veg which he said were very tasty. The restaurant had a cosy atmosphere and we're looking forward to visiting again soon.

Really enjoyed the food here. My only complaint is the cost. It was quite pricey for a family of four eating main courses and desserts. Some kids caught between too old for the kids' menu and too young for the main menu may struggle to find something they like. Great seafront atmosphere out on the terrace, watching the world go by as the sun went down.

Swim is a charming beachside eatery, perfect for enjoying a meal with a seaside vibe. We snagged a reservation and got a window seat with a lovely harbor view—though the bugs in the glass added a bit too much "nature" to our dining experience. The food was tasty but on the pricey side. The mussels had a flavorful broth, but the uncleaned shells gave a new meaning to "sea grit." The lobster roll, at £20, was more expensive than in Maine, USA, but still a treat. They do have a kids menu, which is a plus, though the £85 bill for two adults and two kids left us feeling like we'd dined with the lobsters themselves.

We were really charmed by Swim when we visited for lunch as part of a weekend away in the area. On the surface it seems like fairly typical casual dining fayre - a menu in which burgers are the central focus, an atmosphere that's 'bustling' when it's good and slightly chaotic when it's not, and pricing that reflects the beachfront location. But the whole thing is elevated by the quality of the food and the charismatic and welcoming team. We started with nachos, followed by the Korean Fried Chicken (with chilli fries, gochujang mayo) and the Dorset Longhorn Burger. All of which sailed past our expectations and were far better than they needed to be for a restaurant that would clearly be packed regardless given it's location. "The chefs here clearly know what they're doing" said my husband as he devoured the burger. What was notable in addition was just how lovely the front of house team were. Clearly rushed off their feet (it was a Saturday lunchtime after all) but none looked out of control or at their wits end. All milling around with a smile and taking a moment to chat with every order taken or plate delivered. Swim is going straight on the "recommend" list when we're inevitably asked by friends at home.

Had the best meal I have had out and about for a long time this weekend at Swim in Lyme Regis - the chicken escalope, the veggie burger and bacon mac and cheese were all outstanding. All looking out to the beach on a beautiful day. Only marked the atmosphere down one cos the music was a bit loud for my mother đŸ€Ł

Best apart about this restaurant is they do a decent kids menu alongside a banging adults offering. Well worth a visit and great portions too.

The waitress was lovely and had was very kind and friendly personality. I had a roast which was beautifully cooked and my partner had the fish and chips, fish was massive, cooked brilliant as well, the chips perfect crunch and fluffy potatoes. All round great experience. We will come back when we visit Lyme again.

5* for a nice pub with good beer and a pleasant lunch. Not sure about the "Gastropub" description, the food was nice enough as pub food, but hardly a gastronomic experience. Brilliant location, just a few steps away from the sea and also the excellent Museum.

We were a large table of 10 + 2 dogs and we were looked after by Cali from Central Coast, Australia!! She was amazing from start to finish. There was nothing too much trouble and she was so engaging, even managed to get our autistic son to talk to her (which never happens). The food , location and venue were all absolutely beautiful and will become a family favourite now thanks to Cali’s incredible service! 10/10 - Thank you so much & Happy Anniversary Cali xxx

Our second visit and we weren’t disappointed l! We received a very warm welcome on arrival and the staff were lovely throughout our stay. The bedrooms are a great size and very tastefully decorated. Lovely complementary goodies in the fridge, a Dyson hairdryer, fabulous toiletries and so much more. We had our dog with us and he was made to feel most welcome too. The food was nice and breakfast was plentiful. The hotel is in a perfect location opposite the beach with car parks close to hand.

Nestled right by the sea, The Lyme Bay has mastered the art of combining incredible food with an unforgettable atmosphere. The vibe is warm, relaxed, and inviting. The staff is not only friendly but incredibly attentive - striking the perfect balance of being present without hovering. The outdoor terrace boasts an unobstructed view of the sea. Space heaters and a cozy wood fire pit add to the experience. The Lyme Bay goes above and beyond with thoughtful touches like blankets and hot water bottles, so even a chilly day or evening can be enjoyed in comfort. The music, a well-curated mix that suits the setting, just adds to the overall great vibe. The menu caters to all, with fantastic vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Their gluten-free fish and chips and in-house-made fish fingers never disappoint, and dietary restrictions don’t mean compromising on quality or flavor. Each dish is crafted with care, and you simply can’t go wrong, no matter what you choose. Whether you’re wanting a leisurely breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a drink by the fire, The Lyme Bay will leave you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal.

We called in for breakfast on a blustery December Sunday morning. The staff were friendly, cheerful and accommodating (unlike me on a Sunday!). Breakfast was excellent, and all from local suppliers. A couple of minor substitutions were no problem. I'd definitely go back and see what else that have on offer.

Came here on a weekend. I was craving for a chippy. So we went here. The waiting time was roughly 2-3 minutes. We were seated outside ( a bar-like table and chair). The view is good, you can see the sea, and also the adjacent restaurant as well. We waited for around 30 minutes for our food to be served (but that was normal since it was really busy at that time). The food came. Fish and chips. The fish was good, it was soft and the coating is crispy- it did not have the aftertaste of oil compared to some chippy I have tried. The garden peas have a bit of flavour(mint) and the chips were crispy and really tasty and they have a homemade tartar sauce as well, but overall food is great. I gave 4 because I know there are still room for improvement. The staff were accommodating as well despite all the busyness.

The staff and the atmosphere at the Lyme Bay was great. Staff made real effort to make us feel welcome and to make sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast menu was limited but quality of food was great. Eggs Benedict are especially great. The only thing to mention that wasn’t great was the price. £40 for breakfast for two is a lot. If you get over this, the rest is great.

Our favourite pub in Lyme Regis, been coming here for 20+ years, from when our children were very young. Food has always been great, but I think it's probably best ever now. The Greek food is fantastic. This time we had the vegetarian meze with the souvlaki (pork and chicken). All perfectly prepared, and the chips are just amazing. Also a very nice bottle of white wine to wash it down. We'll be back again and again!

Well, this place was a pleasant surprise. Just on the seafront you might walk past it, but that would be a mistake. We stopped here for lunch half way through a 19 mile walk (as part of a 3 days charity walk). Plenty of hungry mouths! The joy of this place and USP is the Greek chef. Home made Moussaka and other Greek specialties as good as you will get anywhere (including in Greece). I had the Moussaka. A fine Moussaka is a joy to behold, whereas a poor one is worth avoiding. This was one of the best (if not THE best) I have ever had. Not just hyperbole. The service was excellent and there was a good selection of drinks on tap. I couldn't believe it. I would come back just for the Moussaka.

Really enjoyed our meal here. The whole pub felt safe and welcoming despite covid, Staff very attentive, friendly and not overbearing. Food was perfect well presented and priced fairly. Was really impressed with my fish pie which was very fresh tasting. Asked for no dressing on salad and that was how it came. Very clean interior. Only downside was drinks were a bit pricey but we were only having one each so overall price was as expected including the meal. Recommended.

Went to the Cobb Arms for Sunday lunch with our pals and their 2 strapping teenage lads in the naughty corner of the rest. Superb choice of food, nothing too much trouble. Rob and his staff were terrific, warm and friendly/smiley. Very pleased indeed with the quality, quantity and attention to detail on our plates. I had the scollops and prawns on sewers with crisp salad for my main. The restaurant also has interiors for sale, especially up on the walls pictures, posters, lamps etc, so if you see anything you fancy, you can buy it. #happydays

Had a lovely stay at the Cobb Arms for 3 nights. The rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. Toni, Gary and the staff were friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to help. The drinks were reasonably priced for the location on the front, but best of all was the food. My wife is a coeliac but she had enough choice on the menu, that she was able to have, that was gluten free. The fish and chips that she had, were the best she had tasted, with the batter being crispy like normal batter. The full English breakfast was gluten free too and was lovely. Would definitely recommend the Cobb arms for a stay, or just to pop in for a meal on your holiday. So a big thank you to Toni, Gary and all the staff for a lovely break and hope to see you all in the future.

Guys, you really gotta try this wonderful hostelry - it is superb!! We have walked past it time and time again over the years, God knows why, but this time we went in and we were certainly not disappointed - the inviting smell of good food being cooked, the even more inviting log fire, and the warmest of welcomes from the bar staff. While our food order was being prepared I had a quick look around and the place oozes history and charm by the bucketload. There are rooms here too but I didn't see any of those so it would be inappropriate to comment on those. However, the food was very prompt in arriving and it was of exemplary quality and portion size, piping hot and VERY tasty!! They keep a good cellar here too, lots of choice of beers, ales & spirits, so in that respect it ticks all the boxes!! I cannot for the life of me understand why we haven't been here before as we've missed so much - but, be assured this is our go to place to eat in Lyme Regis from here on in!! A word to the wise, we got lucky, we arrived at 12.15 and it was quite quiet then but by 1pm the place was totally rammed, no tables left anywhere and there are 3 different dining areas, all packed! The point being if you want to enjoy what this place has to offer food wise, especially at weekends, please book in advance otherwise you could well miss out!!
