Rating: 4.9 (89) Price Level:
My family have stayed in The Farmhouse at Round Chimneys Farm several times now, it is amazing I can't recommend it highly enough, Rachel and her family are the best hosts, allowing my grandchildren to feed the lambs, collect the chicken eggs and have tractor rides! The Farmhouse is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, the house is spotless with beautiful white sheets and plenty of thick white towels, I have recommended many friends who have also been more than once.

We booked a weekend here for 8 friends, who were planning on meeting, we all lived around the UK and one of us actually flew over from Sweden to visit, and I can happily say we were all blown away with how beautiful the place was. We stayed in the Round Chimney’s Farm House, with 5 bedrooms and 12 beds, This place was PERFECT for us. Little did we realise how fantastic our stay really would be. The online photo’s just don’t do it enough justice. Our arrival was early because we were so excited for our weekend to begin, in which Rachel welcomed us and showed us the on site Café & Shop whilst we waited, we enjoyed a pot of tea and appreciated the beautiful shop, selling cakes, lunch, and meat and cheese from the farm, as well as the stunning paintings and art for sale on the walls. We were then given access to the house which we must of ran around several times just to take in it’s beauty. Everything was clean, well-made with bedding, towels and throws if needed, the lighting and space was perfect and the gift of a late of flapjacks per person went down a treat. There was everything you needed and more, all dining needs plates, cups, mugs, cutlery you need not worry. We all had the chance to pet and was also offered an onsite tour of the farm with the animals, on the way in you can visit the Donkey’s and a friendly Goat, moving onto the cows who certainly know how to sound a friendly hello, moving onto the baby goats. We were lucky to find one of the cow had given birth whilst we visited, on site there are 3 dogs who roam the farm who we all instantly fell in love with and even invited them inside to grab plenty of cuddles and belly rubs! As our guests slowly arrived from travelling they each had the same reactions running from each floor oohing an aahing at the house. The games room was defintatley a big reason for choosing our booking, entertaining us all weekend with matches of pool and using the living room for movies in the evening. We made use of the outdoor fire pit in the evening and roasted marshmallows and made shmores. We were invited on the Saturday to a Pub Night the Farm was hosting to celebrate their 1 year anniversary of the Café & Shop with drinks and a local pizza van catering which is the only disappointment we had as we we’re told order would be ready at a certain time, and once ordering yes I know ALOT, but 8 pizza’s we were told he could only make 1, so we luckily found a takeaway open to deliver, which being away from town was hard to track any late food places, but was to NO fault of the farm itself. The owner was so friendly and welcoming, and honestly has such a warm presence and made us all feel at home, not one of us wanted to leave, and spent many hours continuously visiting the cows and goats, we did however on the Saturday spent the day together at Longleat Zoo and had a fantastic time, however the cows and goats were first on the agenda when returning to the farm that evening. Thank you very much for an amazing stay! The price was perfect for us, the stay and the beds.. oh gosh we all agreed it was the best nights sleep we’ve had with the most comfortable beds and bedding and the showers were heaven! I think we must of all showered a thousand times over! 5 STARS recommend anyone to visit and stay here, suitable for families and children too, though we were an ALL adult group, the games room had plenty of toys and books for children, TV’s all had Freeview and there was an Xbox 360 too with some games to play and able to play DVDs which we brought, also access to a travel cot, gates on the stairs and an ironing board, iron and hair dryer was available if needed.

Enjoyed a relaxed family stay cation is both the houses, it was A-MAZE-ING❤️All I can describe it was like being in a film. As a massive animal lover myself, I got to meet and greet all of the animals, they were beautiful and also a big thank you to the farmers/owners who were lovely and walked us around the farm. The cottage is clean tidy and always a joy to be in. Most definitely cannot wait to be back for next Christmas!!

Spent a long weekend here with my family celebrating a 50th birthday. Round Chimneys is a very well equipped, listed old period farmhouse situated on a working farm. Large bedrooms with really comfortable beds. warm central heating throughout with the added bonus of wood burners. The large kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could need. There are ample bathrooms situated over 3 levels with stairgates. There is a small games room with pool table and plenty of books, toys, games etc., free WiFi and the property is dog friendly. This house is hundreds of years old and furnished sympathetically. Don't expect the furnishings to be pristine, you could describe them as 'careworn' but I think it is in keeping with the style of this old building. There is plenty of parking close to the house which is set in stunning countryside. Owners are always on hand and are very friendly and welcoming. The small farmshop/cafe on site is worth a look. The lovely town of Sherborne is only a 15 minute drive away. I would definitely stay here again.

A lovely laid back and helpful welcoming family that run the place. Thoroughly enjoyed staying there, stayed there with my family twice now and visited the cafe there once during the day. Ideal place for relaxation, scenery, and enjoying the cafe and seeing the farm animals. Highly recommend Edit. Clean and well equipped amenities too Thank you

Went couple of days ago with husband and a friend and had a lovely meal. Food was delicious, although the stuffing in my friends chicken breast had a strange taste. Portion size generous, Mia our waitress was fab! Just moved to the area so a nice find. Will definitely be back.

Visited today ( sat 5th oct) and enjoyed good food and service. The young ladies who were serving were extremely polite, good knowledge of the food offered, and had a good sense of humour. Compliments to the kitchen staff as the food was great, and just enough for lunch. There is no doubt that my friends and I will be revisiting this lovely establishment.

Lilac Restaurant

Rating: 4.9 (134) Price Level:
Came here for dinner for my partners birthday from London. Fantastic little restaurant in a great location. Beautiful, simple decor and super friendly staff. Lovely seasonal menu with a great selection of vegetarian, fish and meat fishes from the area. The 'soused mackerel' was my favourite and the frangipane desert were exquisite. The wine was local and divine. Great experience and a great meal.
Rating: 5 / 5
Exceptional food, locally sourced and foraged. The chef often came out to serve the dishes and was more than happy to talk about the ingredients, where he had foraged some of them and how the dish was made. Every plate was well conceived, light and tasty, even the bigger dishes such as the ox cheek or venison. Wine suggestions were excellent and every wine we tried was surprising and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, the venue small and welcoming. This rates as one of the best food experiences I've had. Get there now while it's still small and relatively undiscovered because it deserves to get better known and booked up months in advance.

Could not fault a single dish and we tried many. Each plate of food was full of flavour, perfectly seasoned and mouthwateringly delightful. Honestly could have eaten every single dish on the menu. If you’re looking for something a bit special and different from the norm then do not miss the delights that Lilac has to offer.
Rating: 5 / 5
Upscale menu in an unpretentious basement "cave." Small plate (and I mean small!) offerings of exquisitely executed dishes that present a culinary experience for the palate. I wish there were 30% more on every dish we sampled (wouldn't really describe it as "ate," given the amount). But... they were all quite well done. You just need to order a lot of dishes. We had the Flatbread w Pickled Ewe's Cheese, Fig & Roasted (yumm) Pumpkin Seeds, Beetroot Carparccio (outstanding take), Soused Mackerel, Dartmoor Lamb (tender), Polenta w Girolles (mushroon), Ricotta & Cheddar, Fennel Truffles (not to miss for a chocolate lover) & Apricot & Thyme Sorbet (the only small miss: would have preferred a gentler herb like mint).

We didn't book, and the restaurant was full, but the server offered us the bar table or outside dining, and as it as a sunny warm evening we landed on the outdoor dining. This is a rare find. Not only was the outdoor dining stylish and intimate, it offered wonderful service, and a 10/10 experience. The dinner was wonderful, from small bites all the way to the main the meal was wonderful. The menu is seasonal and delicious, this was a menu that didn't offer comfortable favourites, but diverse delicious plates that we talked about all the way home. They even made us a tailor made cocktail which was spicy and lovely. We had 3 servings. We are thrilled we got in, and would recommend it to anyone who is a food lover.

Yalbury Cottage

Rating: 4.8 (296) Price Level:
Yalbury Cottage is a place where excellence, friendliness, and quality come together seamlessly. As someone who loves travelling and exploring new cities and places, I have stayed in numerous accommodations, but none compare to Yalbury Cottage. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and look forward to returning to the area. The staff at Yalbury Cottage consistently went out of their way to be friendly and did everything possible to ensure our stay was exceptional. The room exceeded my expectations significantly, with its stunning and unique view. We truly felt as if we were at home, but in a setting with beautiful new scenery. Situated in Dorchester, Yalbury Cottage offers a perfect base to explore the area and nearby cities such as Weymouth. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, have recommended this place to others, and will continue to do so. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and everything was spotlessly and well-organised. Additionally, the thoughtful touch of leaving brownies in our room upon arrival exemplifies their dedication to Yalbury Cottage and their commitment to providing each guest with an exceptional experience. I personally can't wait to return to this charming cottage for another uniquely wonderful stay.

Lovely place to stay. Food was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The one thing that I would of appreciated (as an older lady) would of been a bath mat in a very slippy bath. Fabulous, would certainly visit again.

The most amazing quality for the money.. we stumbled across this pub on a wet Wednesday..even though it was 2 pm, the kitchen was open and all the menu was available. I was blown away with the quality of the food and hospitality..

We stayed here one night in early July ( visiting from Australia but born in Dorset).. A lovely atmospheric room with modern bathroom. We opted for dinner in the restaurant and had probably the best sunday roast we have ever had , roast beef done just right with yorkshire pud my mother would be proud of - high praise indeed! Accompanied by a range of vegetables that were great but almost too many to finish. Ditto for Breakfast the following day . Staff ( owners? ) took great pride in this establishment and delightful to boot. So thoroughly recommend the New Inn. .

My husband and I were on holiday in Cerne Abbas and came across this very special place on our first day walk. What a wonderful find, we were warmly received by Annette and Julian, who showed a great interest in us and where we had come from and checking out where we may visit while in Dorset. We loved this place so much we visited 4 times for evening drinks and meals. The recommendations for local beers, wine and Gin were excellent. They were always interested on our daily adventures. We can honestly say the place had a wonderful vibe with pleasant background music not to loud, and listening to the local banter was heart- warming. Also lovely to see all dog visitors getting doggy treats from the owners. Always served with a smile The food was absolutely delicious, they have a very talented chef, the presentation and food portions were spot on and there was no waste from us ! Thank you for a marvellous time at The new Inn and we will be back again soon and will definitely book a stay as well . If we could give you 6 stars we would

We stayed over the bank holiday in Aug and it’s so quiet and peaceful. Food was amazing and my husband said it was the best breakfast. All the staff went above and beyond especially Haley and another lady whose name we didn’t know. Fantastic little find.

Fabulous gastro pub. We enjoyed the food so much we went there for a second evening whilst staying overnight locally. Really good value for money with generous portion sizes 😁 If you have the fish Friday, which includes a drink, you need to ask, which ones are included before ordering. We didn't realize that at the time and ordered drinks that weren't included.

Very cozy place! Had a table booked for 12:15 but showed up an hour early, we still were friendly welcomed and enjoyed a coffee and a pot of tea in the cozy sunny spot inside before we could order our lunch. Great selection and daily specials. We had a Camembert with sourdough to share and two starters as small Mains, salmon fish pie with cream cheese and watercress, breadcrumb battered feta with caramellised figs and honey glaze and two portions of chips. We even got the aioli requested from another main to dip the chips in! As dessert we shared grilled plums.. all very lovely presented. We were absolutely stuffed, even we had no breakfast and no mains! Two drinks. Card payment didn't work for ages and stuff was very helpful and patient!! We spent 3 lovely hours in here with delicious food for a very reasonable price!! Recommended!!

Selfishly I would like to keep this little gem to myself so that I can always go when I want but in the spirit of generosity (and because these guys are so brilliant) I felt I needed to leave a review. All of it is outstanding - the food, the service, the ambience, the wine - and I’m a hard person to please! I have been for a quick soup and a sandwich, full-blown Sunday roast and a mid-week supper. All superb, freshly prepared food. Yes, maybe slightly pricier than other pubs, but if top quality food and a genuinely friendly service is your priority this is the place to come!

The Hunters Moon

Rating: 4.6 (565) Price Level:
The food was good but pricey for what it was. 10% service charge added but politely told at bill stage and offered the choice, so that was appreciated. The landlord and staff made the experience, good banter so would return but not as often as I'd like due to cost.
Rating: 5 / 5
Had a lovely stay at Hunters Moon. Staff are really friendly and I loved the dogs Dubury and Dilbert. Made it feel very homely. The rooms are small and cosy, they were quite cute and private. In the morning I could get ready with my door open as the room are not overlooked. The area is stunning! beautiful old listed buildings, beautiful nature, such a pretty area. The pub has quiz nights, live music and a great atmosphere. Breakfast was very good. Thank you :-)

We didn't stay overnight so cant score them as we just dropped in for a quick pint after a walk. The barman was very friendly and welcoming. My friend had a sandwich for lunch which looked lovely. It is what I call a 'proper pub' - beams for example that looked like they had been part of Noahs Ark! Well worth a visit!

Beautiful food had 3 courses and all were beautiful, service was well paced and not fast so you get to enjoy the dishes . Steak was more than an 8oz fillet and my wife’s seafood linguine was in her words divine. Waiters were lovely and honoured to meet one of the chefs . Thank you

Visited by chance on a wet Wednesday and so glad we chose Al Molo. Restaurant was busy but staff were excellent, very friendly and attentive and despite being rush off their feet always available when needed. Food was fabulous and when we visit Dorchester again will definitely be back.

This place is remarkable. I honestly feel like I have to leave a review because I had a private room booking for party of 7 (engagement celebration). The team took care of us extremely well and I want to give special honour to our hostess Verity, so sweet, so patient, clear in her communication- 5 stars for her. The food was gorgeous and pretty affordable in my opinion . Some portions were small but I understand that it is more on fine dining side. The only critique I would give is about some cleaning aspects in which the rooms had like old cobwebs, spider webs on the windows, just could use a deep clean.

Rating: 4.5 (377) Price Level:
A stunning pub, with friendly and helpful staff. Sadly the kitchen's were closed at the time we visited, but they were offering various puddings to stave off the hunger. The Apple cake and cream was lush along with a pint of the local ale. Just the thing on a very wet day, as it was when we visited. Only downside is, It would be a 240 mile commute for me to call it "my local". A title I'd love to call it.

Rating: 4.5 (458) Price Level:
Amazing house and gardens nestled in the Dorset countryside with a lovely tea terrace. Very quiet and peaceful as we wondered through the garden walk, enjoying the tranquility and beauty of nature. There was a Himalayan hut and gorgeous riverside walk as well as a Japanese pagoda. All so serene! Will definitely come again. All lit up at Christmas, I believe.
Rating: 5 / 5
Visited today with 3 adults, 1 teen, 1 child. Lovely serene gardens. We did the fairy and dragon trail which was loved by all. The variety of plants, trees and flowers is amazing with all the different colours. The river walk is stunning with all the mini waterfalls and the big bridge at the end. Will be revisiting. A hidden gem 💎
Rating: 5 / 5
We have been to Minterne Gardens a few times, this time we went to see the rhododendrons and azaleas in flower, we weren't disappointed. Be aware that some of the paths are a bit steep and uneven, so may not be suitable for wheelchair users, pushchairs or anyone a bit unsteady on their feet. Teas, coffees and snacks are available on the terrace . Toilets available in the gardens.

Lovely eccentric gardens with a very grand sandstone house which is used as a wedding venue. Check for the occasional partial closure. Gardens are quirky and most enjoyable. Nice cafe terrace with everything from panini to a variety of salad specials. Very visit able.
