We moved to Charlton Marshall in April and have eaten at the Charlton Inn many times since. Each time the food and service have been excellent, even when they were very busy. The Sunday lunch is one of the best we've had in our tours of local eateries since we retired. We will continue enjoying our visits and the great food in 2025.

A lovely little pub with some great cask beers and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. I stayed in one of their rooms which was perfectly acceptable and good value for money. Great selection of traditional pub grub as well.

We were visiting family in Blandford during November 2024 and decided to try the Charlton Inn for an evening meal. The choice of food was extremely good they also had a number of vegan options for the wife. The service, the atmosphere, the staff and the food was excellent. We was also allowed to stop over in their carpark in our motorhome, which made the evening even better. Would highly recommend it. In fact we are hoping to return in December.

We stayed in one of the feature rooms. Beautiful and roomy. The shower was a bit temperamental but wasn’t a problem. Room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The food was of a very high standard (breakfast and evening meals). And the staff were exceptional. We would highly recommend staying here in a very beautiful part of the world.

This was such a lovey visit on New Years Eve late afternoon. The service was exemplary by all and the food we ordered was delicious especially the lobster prawn linguine. We will certainly not leave it too long before our next visit. Five stars all round!

A previous frequent and regular stop for us on our way West. Now returned after a few years since moving to Dorset. We love the location and the ambience hasn't changed at all. A hearty and friendly welcome by Tim, but entirely appropriate and not overfriendly. Excellent and a credit to the pub. Served by Shannon who was equally superb and dealt with our difficult friends very well indeed. We will definitely return soon, but on our own........... Thank you for an excellent lunch and superb service.

The White Horse Inn

Shaston Rd, Stourpaine, Blandford Forum DT11 8TA, UK | Pub
P: 01258 453535

Rating: 4.6 (694) Price Level:

Lovely traditional pub with a wide range of beer and good food. We visited on a Thursday evening and it was pretty busy. I think it is one of the only pubs in Stourpaine, but service was great and the food was lovely. I had the steak pudding and chips, which I've not had for years but it was gorgeous. My wife had ham, egg and chips, which again she said tasted delicious. The pub has a whole raft of service mens hats dotted throughout the place and has had a visit by King Charles when he was a prince. Lovely place, well worth a visit.

Visited here twice for food whilst on our stay and we were certainly not disappointed at all. As you can see from our photos from our evening meals they were delicious, they were presented well and they tasted fantastic. Well worth the money we paid and the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It's also dog friendly and our dog loved it as well. Do not miss out when visiting Stourpaine.

We have just met some friends for Sunday lunch at The Cockerel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had a lovely table that was not crowded or too close to other people. The Sunday roast was excellent. Beautifully cooked beef, six veg , roast potatoes and an enormous Yorkshire pudding. The vegetarian option was a mushroom and spinach wellington which was really tasty. We all had sweets which were equally good. We will definitely make the trip out to this fantastic pub again. Thank you

The Cockerel is an absolutely pub located out the back of wimbourne. It’s nicely hidden away but a lovely location to be. The pubs service was amazing, the bar tender was funny and charismatic and was a joy to be served by. The food was incredible, great prices and really tasty! There was also a fire on for the duration of our meal which gave the pub a really nice atmosphere. The pub is quite small so make sure to book in advance!

As it was Monday night I couldn't find anywhere else to eat, so many pubs and restaurants were closed! I had to travel just over ten miles but boy was it worth it. I had the beer battered Pollock and it was superb. The beer was exceptionally well kept as well. Would recommend this pub as the whole experience was great, a special sound out to the young lady who answered the phone as her easy, confident, manner on the phone convinced me to get in the car and both young ladies in the bar especially the red head who was lovely! Not a fan of the basket idea, my fork kept going through the greaseproof paper, would have preferred a plate. With food this good you don't need a gimmick!

Their were 10 other dinner's too..I imagine we sat in the newly extended part of the public house . As we finished our food their was live music . Clean well decorated with a friendly atmosphere. My friend and I were very happy.

Had the most amazing Sunday lunch to celebrate a special 93rd birthday. The staff decorated specially in just the perfect window area of the pub. The atmosphere is so welcoming including kids and even the dogs! The staff and service was just excellent. Sunday lunch we all immediately opted for the Roast beef which was cooked to perfection and comes with a huge Yorkshire pudding, roasties, all your fave veggies and the best stuffing I've ever tasted! Pudding was an easy choice for most with an all time fave of Sticky Toffee Pudding but I chose the Rice Pudding with apples & homemade honeycomb.....every mouthful tasted like apple crumble, it was delicious. Coffee and birthday cake to end a wonderful lunch in a gorgeous setting which even included a quick trip to the playpark conveniently located across the street :) We will absolutely be back!!! ♡

After messing up my initial booking, silly mistake, really messed Karl and his team around but was thoroughly looked after. When we showed up at the correct time myself and my two colleagues were treated very well. Good comms, easy to reach out to. Great on emails. Rooms are very nice. Good parking, but busiest when the pub is busy lunch, evening however was always able to find a space. Food is excellent. Breakfast choices are really good - you are really well fed. WiFi is good, I was able to take a several hour video meeting without any call quality or video issues which is essential when travelling on business. Will book again when next working in the area.

The Crown Hotel

West St, Blandford Forum DT11 7AJ, UK | Restaurant
P: 01258 456626

Rating: 4.3 (1653) Price Level:

My wife and I booked for one night's stay at the Crown Hotel recently, as it looked very nice and the price was more competitive than other hotels within this region. It's a beautifully maintained Georgian building in nice location, offering us easy access to numerous locations we wanted to visit in Dorset. We needed a second night's stay added, which was sorted out very easily and all prices, including our breakfast were clarified at reception. The staff were all pleasantly professional and the food choice was very good and of high quality. The room was clean, with a touch of character in line with age of building and had everything to make our stay comfortable. We were disturbed on second night by another guest's barking dog, although this was brief. Parking space is abundant and easy to access. There's also a very big beer garden outside hotel, which looked a popular feature in the sunny weather. Overall, generally pleased with our stay at the Crown and would recommend to others.

Every single member of the team at The Crown Blandford have gone out of their way to accommodate our large family group. The food has been exceptional as are the rooms which are beautiful and spotless. The food at every meal has been amazing. At dinner, every single plate for our large group came out at the same time and was piping hot and delicious. We were well looked after and checked in on regularly. The welcome is warm and friendly and every part of our requests were accommodated including providing an accessible room for a family member needing a lift and a room with support. Reception did a great job of coordinating our group and helping with all of our requests. The bar staff also did really well to help us as we ordered drinks throughout the day. Thank you so much to everyone at The Crown ! We are very grateful and can’t wait to bring our family group back to see you !

This hotel is such a fabulous hotel, great location, good sized room/bathroom, great sized bed & soft fluffy towels. To add to this, the food was delicious, fantastic service and staff are friendly, helpful and all with a smile. We stayed Friday night and had an early engagement, Christine made sure our dinner was on time and made sure we had everything before finishing her shift. Honestly, what a lovely lady. She was just as helpful and cheerful the next morning. The lamb dinner in the evening was absolutely delicious 😋 The complimentary glass of Prosecco and half a beer was a fabulous touch… not advertised enough. Luckily we found a voucher in the room. And the choice of breakfast was amazing. We had smashed avo on toasted sourdough, seasoned with a hint of lemon, pesto leaves, chilly flakes and a perfect poached egg on the side… all done to perfection… well done to whoever made that 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And for once the tea in the teapot was actually boiling, so I had a hot cup of tea with my breakfast… again perfect! One small thing… a little more light in the bathroom or in the bedroom with a good mirror for us older ladies would be helpful!

Rating: 4.1 (622) Price Level:

Popped in here with kids on way back from the beach. I'm old fashioned and do appreciate the bar staff giving it some 'I'll be with you in a moment' patter when I approached the bar. Acknowledgement. Nice. The service was friendly and more importantly the lemonades and shandy were ice cold. Kids could happily play on the crazy golf style gravel at the top of the beer garden. Can't comment on rooms or food but it felt a good place to be.

Having passed The True Lovers Knot many times we had a chance to stop off there today. It’s a true old fashion pub with a log burner which was alight and we were lucky enough to get a table right next to it. We were hoping to have a Sunday roast. Because we hadn’t booked a table we thought we were out of luck. However they were very accommodating and said we could have the table till 14.30 which was fantastic. We ordered two roast turkey dinners which come with all the trimmings and was absolutely delicious. You definitely won’t leave feeling hungry. We will definitely return but make sure we book. Thank you.

Atmosphere nice, waitress lovely and friendly. £17 for a double gin and a pint seemed steep. Food delicious however not much as to portion size. I would come back if the menu was a bit more wider, not much choice. I only liked 2 things on the menu, would love to see jacket potatoes as an option with a side salad! Too hot for hot meals this year of the year.
