Rating: 4.8 (319) Price Level:
We had a thoroughly enjoyable and delicious dining experience at the Clockspire Restaurant this evening. Food was excellent along with the service. The old school building has been beautifully restored and creates a delightful surrounding and atmosphere, complimenting the whole experience. This has just become my favorite restaurant. We shall return.

Overall is good, the quality it's top as the price and service. Lovely place with good atmosphere. If you're on rush, don't go, take your time and enjoy the food.

Really nice experience. The decor inside was very appealing and comfortable. Went for the 3 course set menu and the food was very well presented and had a lot of flavour. Waiters/waitresses polite and attentive. Will recommend to friends/family.

Fantastic food! Really delicious. We will definitely return on our next trip to the area. The staff are lovely and welcoming, and we felt at ease for the whole visit.

Oh my! ♥ What a magical experience visiting The Clockspire was. Where do I begin to describe the care and detail oozing from both the staff and the food, it truly is clear to see, even the toilet hand towels were folded beautifully! We decided to opt for an expensive treat due to a special birthday, but the restaurant also offers a very affordable day menu, so I would recommend for both a stunning meal out and for celebrating occasions.

Best kept secret around. This place is an absolute gem! It's clean, modern, well priced and the food is excellent! Ironically the fish & chips is a bit bland, but I've been there many times since, and everything else I've ordered has been excellent.

We decided to try this place out as we only live just down the road from it and I'm so glad we did. We had a breakfast and were not disappointed. Everything was superb, brilliant value for money and great produce used. And what's more we were really impressed with the welcoming hospitality of the staff. This is rare to find and so pleased when we experienced it. We highly recommend this place and will be returning as a regular for sure with friends and family. Keep up the good work

Steven, I'd just like to say thank you for our lovely stay last week. We had a wonderful time in your beautiful accommodation. There was so much space both inside and outside the properties for three generations of a family to have a fun and relaxing stay. The decor and overall presentation of the property is beautiful and extremely high and as a very keen gardener and lover of nature I really appreciated your walled garden and the acres of meadow and riverside all around the property. .We would not hesitate to return.

We were made to feel very welcome in this lovely barn. Was everything and more than we expected. Especially the gardens and walks by the river. Ideally placed to travel and explore Dorset with good access to the places and friends we wanted to visit. Good selection of local pubs and restaurants- would recommend The Saxon Inn. Regarded this holiday as a taster and will certainly be back. Thank you, Steven & Georgina, for sharing your beautiful home.

Charming place to stop, although parking limited to enjoy a 7km walk

If we could give it 10 stars we would! The most peaceful and relaxing stay we have ever had. Steven is brilliant, just so nice and helpful, gave lots of personal recommendations for places to eat and visit ahead of our stay. You get a very warm welcome and immediately know you have made a great choice. The accomodation is to a very high standard, we had our best sleeps ever, a very comfortable bed indeed. The setting is delightful, I doubt you could find a better place to wind the days away or as a base for visiting the surrounding area. Ron & Michele

We had a wonderful week's stay at the 'Appleyard.' From the initial booking through to the final departure, Steven, (the owner) provided excellent communication, including travel advice, inventory listings and advice on things to do and see in the locality. We were greeted by Steven on arrival who then gave a brief but very thorough run through of the abundant facilities. The description of the property was a true reflection of what we found, which is very tastefully decorated, well equipped and extremely comfortable and homely. (We especially appreciated the footstools where we could put our feet up in the evening after long and beautiful walks). The location is exceptionally quiet and tranquil, making it very easy to connect with the outdoors and nature, which all lent itself to a relaxing time to unwind and recharge our batteries. Without hesitation, we would visit again in the future, and would highly recommend Hammoon Manor.

Made so welcome with our puppy on a really wet, windy Sunday. We were wet, the puppy was trying hard to be good. The Big Stur breakfast was epic. Filling and great ingredients. The plate was swept clean. Generous portions for the hungry traveller. Pleasant surroundings and friendly staff. They cared for us. We will be back.

Such a beautiful cafe, full of character and charm. Have visited a few times, with friends and with family. Each time I have visited, the service has been so welcoming, warm and friendly. The cakes are exceptional, the brownies in particular are a must try! The food is great value for money, so tasty and freshly cooked. We are so lucky to have this cafe in our town! (Also dog friendly with a little jar of biscuits on the side which I feel is a lovely extra bonus!)

This is a beautiful little place we found whilst on holiday. We was looking for somewhere to have a full English breakfast and this place delivered. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Prices are fair for what you get will 100% return when we next are in the area. Keep doing what your doing it's amazing.

Plumber Manor Country House Hotel
Sturminster Newton, Dorset DT10 2AF, UK | Hotel P: 01258 472507
Rating: 4.8 (213) Price Level:
We have stayed here three times since 1980. Still in the same expert ownership. Beautiful country manor house. Well maintained in a discreet style. Fabulous food, interesting wine list with a range of half bottles too. Good value for Londoners!!! Friendly relaxed service. Welcoming sitting room with open fire. Make a special journey to visit if you can.
Rating: 5 / 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our one night at Plumber Manor. The staff were without exception helpful, friendly and efficient. We had a beautifully cooked dinner and the breakfast was first-rate. The hotel is in a quiet location and the grounds are kept very well with attractive topiary and well-planted borders. We would definitely return another time.
Rating: 5 / 5
We went to Plumber Manor for a birthday meal whilst visiting Dorset. The service, comfort, ambience and food were all exceptional. This is a fabulous hotel and restaurant with a relaxed and efficient style set in beautiful gardens. The menu offers something for every taste and palette, the waiting staff are efficient, unobtrusive and professional. We would definitely visit again and we thank you for an enjoyable and memorable evening. Lin and family.
Rating: 5 / 5
I have been all over the world and have stayed and dined at numerous hotels. Since 1991 I have stayed several times, every year, at Plumber Manor and I can in all honesty say that I have nowhere felt as comfortable and at home as in that wonderful little Country Hotel tucked away in lovely Dorset. Also the food and wine list are superb and the fact that Plumber Manor was elected best Hotel in Southern England in 2024 is totally justifiable.

Wonderful birthday dinner. Lamb Scrumpit, Tuna Carpaccio, Pork Belly, Dorset Crab Linguine, Tiramisu (a little heavy for my preference, but still delicious) and Cheese and crackers. We’ll be back!

Cracking little village pub, we popped in for a few drinks with friends and had a great time, we sat in the garden in the sun and it was extremely pleasant. Will be going back for some food in the future.
Rating: 5 / 5
A group of us are lunch at the white horse yesterday, the food is exquisite, there were 7 of us and every plate we were served was exceptionally presented and tasted amazing!!!! We will be back, what a memorable time. Thankyou so much. The village this pub is situated in is idyllic, like a fairy tale.

What a lovely evening me and my family had last night at this lovely little pub. Thank you so much. The food was fabulous and your wine pickings for us were perfect. See you again soon.
Rating: 5 / 5
We stopped in while visiting from America. I would consider the White House to be an upscale pub. The ambience is great! Lots of stone and heavy wooden beams. There were lots of locals there when we were there which is always a good sign. The staff was wonderful! The food was truly excellent! Every starter and entree was done to perfection! If we lived in the area we would be here often!

Hambledon Hill View Campsite
Hammoon, Sturminster Newton DT10 2BZ, UK | Campground P: Not available
Rating: 4.9 (16) Price Level:
Excellent little hideaway. So many walks from the campsite. Several good pubs within walking distance. There are two to choose from in Child Okeford also a great little shop/bakery and a farm shop with a cafe. The site is nice and level with a toilet and a shower. We will definitely be back, and would highly recommend it.
Rating: 5 / 5
This is a beautiful little site, no ehu but 1 immaculate shower and toilet. Ready access to fantastic cycle paths and so many walking options. Close to the river and Weir which was beautiful to swim in. Nick, the owner is knowledgeable of the local area and super helpful.
Rating: 4 / 5
This really is a gem, nicely located, very clean WC/shower & washing up/dining area too, albeit only the one-but it worked fine even with a weekend influx for the Sturminster Newton cheese festival ( more of a locally produced food fayre-highly recommended if you’re a foodie ). I’d like to (gently) remind campers that etiquette dictates when all the other campers have gone lights out, it’s not polite to sit up in a group talking loudly preventing them from sleeping... Sounds censorious? Depends on how stressful your life is. However, we were lucky enough to hear ( & see barn owls ) plus little And tawny owls! Nice walks nearby, highly recommended. Four stars instead of five? The LED lighting with PIR trigger had us moving about repeatedly to retrigger the lights, which was a tad irksome. Headlamp torch 🙄 but not so good whilst showering...

We wanted a quiet spot not far away from home for a nights getaway and this ticked the box. Lovely quiet situation with a nice view and horses in the field next to us. Plenty of footpaths. For cyclists there's the Trailway just up the road and the lanes are traffic free for the most part. We went for a circular walk that stopped at the Saxon Inn (great pub!) in Child Okeford. Nick and Hannah both lovely and very knowledgeable about local area. We'll be back!

The food was amazing here with a good choice of tapas. There were a good variety of gluten free options on the menu. The service was a little slow, but they had a huge party of people to deal with and kept us informed. Lovely choice of cocktails and mocktails, too.

This was our third time eating here and once again it didn't disappoint. There were 4 of us and we shared a number of dishes, all of which were delicious. The restaurant was busy with a great atmosphere and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Our waitress was brilliant and very patient with us as we tried to decide what to order. The manager was also very friendly, chatting to everyone and making sure we were all enjoying our meal. We will definitely be back.

Tasty food from a small menu. This was the most delicious pork burger with a spicy twist. Sadly not available on our second visit or I would have ordered it again! Delicious lemon cordial and their date flapjacks were also a tasty teatime treat for later.

Went here for Sunday lunch as a group of 10 and the food was exceptional. Everyone was very happy with their food, we had a mixture of pork, lamb and beef orders. Desserts of crumble, Sundaes and waffles were also of a high standard. Staff were lovely and chatty and had a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Would recommend a visit and hope to be back in the area soon to visit again!

A great find today in the middle of a long car journey with the dog. We ordered the chicken supreme off the specials board and it was hands down the best meal we’ve had in a restaurant in a long while. Succulent chicken, delicious creamy sauce, crisp broccoli, and perfectly sautéed cherry tomatoes on (cooked twice?) roasted new potatoes ( I think 🤔) 😋 Worth every penny ✌🏼😎 Thanks
