Shillingstone Station
St Patricks Industrial Estate, Station Rd, Shillingstone, Blandford Forum DT11 0SA, UK | Cafe P: 01258 860696
Rating: 4.7 (182) Price Level:
A retired railway station along a flat cycle trail. A great place to stop, with a small shop (rail oriented), and a little cafe serving snacks like pasties and cakes. Step back in time having tea in a carriage and when you visit the tiny museum, and make sure you experience the old station loos. A lot of modernisation is going on to extend the track and looks like more steam engines are arriving. Not easily accessible by car.
Rating: 5 / 5
We came on a short afternoon out . Lovely place. We enjoyed the Musium with all our childhood memories. Thanks to the volunteers.
Rating: 5 / 5
Really enjoyable visit. Having a look in the signal box was great. The chap explaining everything was very knowledgeable and answered any questions. Very interesting to see how everything worked before computers took over! Lots has been done since we last visited about 10 years ago. Wont be waiting that long for the next visit though! Great station cafe too and you can sit on the platform or in a carriage to eat and drink. The classic car display on when we visited was excellent and there was a wide selection of cars bikes and trucks. . Spent a lot longer here than we thought we might. Such a shame that the line was shut down in 1966. (My parents travelled on the last train)
Rating: 5 / 5
We have visited frequently, and the cafe is run by friendly volunteers, and very homely. Usually a selection of cakes and sausage rolls / pasties and sandwiches. Good mug of tea too. There is the railway shop selling mostly rail related books with an overspill in a carriage outside. There is another carriage you can take the cafe food into, and benches outside. Don't miss the hidden garden at the end of the platform up the path; lovely views across the hills. Popular with walkers, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Rating: 5 / 5
The volunteers have clearly put lots of time and effort into the station. It's definitely worth a visit! For all ages!

The Baker Arms
The Cross, Child Okeford, Blandford Forum DT11 8ED, UK | Pub P: 01258 860260
Rating: 4.7 (199) Price Level:
Having just walked Hambledon Hill and Hod Hill with a different pub lunch planned, where we couldn't get in, with the help of Google Maps and the car we found The Bakers Arms. Here the welcome, from staff and a chap comfortably settled at the bar, was friendly and the wood-burner was welcome warmth after the cold outside. We had a delicious lunch, in my case halloumi bun with baba ganoush and chips and my daughter enjoyed scotch egg and millionaire chips (worth the journey just for those). It's a great old world village pub, well worth a visit, on foot or in the car.
Rating: 5 / 5
Great food and ales. Tom and Sam are doing a great job. And a lovely little cottage you can stay in out the back
Rating: 5 / 5
A really friendly atmosphere and great service. They went out of their way to accommodate me with a vegetarian option for dinner, and remembered our drinks from the night before. Great stop after walking up Hambledon Hill.

The Bakers Arms in Child Okeford is a wonderful little village pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming to its visitors. The quality of the food is fantastic and the pub offers excellent booth seating by a cozy fire. When you drop in we highly recommend trying the burgers, they are delicious. The Bakers Arms offer great support to the local community, this was evident by the Phesantfest which was a fantastic and well supported community day. We love that the pub is a dog friendly pub also!
Rating: 5 / 5
We stopped in on a Sunday, for a weekend away in Dorset (in May - late review), after reading their reviews. What a charming local pub it is, very friendly, people stopping off after church service had finished. We had a fantastic roast Sunday lunch and we would be coming back again if the chef was staying! Parking on the roadside. Nice little pub garden. Great Pimms! Amazing food - the scotch egg is to die for. What more can you ask for.

Rating: 4.5 (82) Price Level:
We stopped for some quick lunch and had jacket potato and avacado on toast. The owner/manager was great and a special thanks to him for remembering my hat!
Rating: 5 / 5
We just had breakfast on a rainy Saturday morning. The service was excellent, prompt and accommodating. But the food! The kings breakfast was huge, delicious and fantastic quality. Eggs royal had plenty of salmon and perfectly poached eggs. Would definitely recommend!
Rating: 5 / 5
What a fantastic evening at The Three King's last night! The food was amazing, freshly cooked to order, succulent meat, char grilled veg and a banging home made hot sauce. The owner and staff were very friendly and welcoming and chatted with us which made the evening all the more enjoyable. Great value for money and somewhere we will definitely return too.
Rating: 5 / 5
We went here with our dog for breakfast and were very impressed. We have an eggs royal and the veggie breakfast, both if which were generous and delicious for the price. Really good to have a great veggie breakfast where so many places just do meat and vegan now! Very welcoming and busy / nice bustle on a Saturday morning. Will be back šš¼

The White Horse Inn
Shaston Rd, Stourpaine, Blandford Forum DT11 8TA, UK | Pub P: 01258 453535
Rating: 4.6 (694) Price Level:
Absolute gem of a pub, excellent Sunday lunch which was massive. Staff were lovely and very attentive. The pub was lovely, warm, inviting and quirky. Have been before for steam up but had to re visit to try the food and so glad we did. Lovely experience and we will definitely return
Rating: 5 / 5
Visited here twice for food whilst on our stay and we were certainly not disappointed at all. As you can see from our photos from our evening meals they were delicious, they were presented well and they tasted fantastic. Well worth the money we paid and the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It's also dog friendly and our dog loved it as well. Do not miss out when visiting Stourpaine.
Rating: 5 / 5
Lovely traditional pub with a wide range of beer and good food. We visited on a Thursday evening and it was pretty busy. I think it is one of the only pubs in Stourpaine, but service was great and the food was lovely. I had the steak pudding and chips, which I've not had for years but it was gorgeous. My wife had ham, egg and chips, which again she said tasted delicious. The pub has a whole raft of service mens hats dotted throughout the place and has had a visit by King Charles when he was a prince. Lovely place, well worth a visit.
Rating: 5 / 5
You can always rely on quality food and great service. There are always fantastic events scheduled throughout the year, from live music to steam engine displays. A fine example of a great pub.

Follow Mr & Mrs R on TikTok. A classic village pub. Lovely landlady, friendly locals and delicious real ale. The type of traditional pub that is sadly disappearing in the UK Have yet to try the food, but thatās on the todo list. Hopefully this pub will become my local as soon just need the solicitors to pull their fingers out. I will then be back with an update.

43 East St, Blandford Forum DT11 7DX, UK | Italian Restaurant P: 01258 503252
Rating: 4.7 (139) Price Level:
Highly recommend a visit here. Wonderful restaurant with a lovely ambiance. Staff are polite, professional and helpful. Food is absolutely gorgeous. Rich opulent flavours that deliver absolute joy on a plate. Fantastic place if you're on your own, having a date or meeting up with a friend or group to celebrate a special occasion. I always check out the toilets in restaurants because it says a lot about the hygiene of the place. I found them to be clean and tidy. I will be visiting again for some truly unforgettable pasta! Thanks team La Vita.

Absolutely gorgeous little local Italian restaurant. The staff are friendly and know how to deliver excellent service. The food was simply divine. This restaurant has luxury tasting food for a good price. I cannot recommend enough, we will definitely be back x

I'm from Australia and visited with local friends when passing through this part of England. I believe the restaurant is relatively new but it didn't matter as the service was first right and the food and beverage offerings were really impressive. A wide range of offerings on the menu and you won't be disappointed if you come here after authentic delicious Italian food.

Had a lovely stay here. Host and hostess very warm and welcoming. Room was lovely...only minor grumble is mattress was too soft but that's a personal preference thing. Great English breakfast. Otter ale was nice too.

Very friendly welcome, well kept ales and a very sunny courtyard. Tablecloths in the restaurant areas are a good touch, though we didn't eat this time. Interesting menu, so will be back š

Considering it's on a main road it really is very quiet. I had a great experience here ,we were greeted with a smile from the bar area shown to our rooms with friendly chat. Decorated to a high standard with some beautiful colours. Beautiful garden patio area in good order and planted with thought.

Service was second to none. It was such a pleasant surprise. The Sunday lunch was excellent and so tasty, and excellent value for money. An unbelievable change from what we had experienced a year or more ago. Although we sat outside, we had frequent from a member of staff to ensure all was OK. Highy recommended.

A wonderful pub with wonderful staff. Well worth a detour off the Shaftesbury / Blandford road. A great menu selection using local produce. We had The Cricketer and The Fisherman option in malted roll. Both with great fresh ingredients. Will certainly visit again.

Their were 10 other dinner's too..I imagine we sat in the newly extended part of the public house . As we finished our food their was live music . Clean well decorated with a friendly atmosphere. My friend and I were very happy.

Had the most amazing Sunday lunch to celebrate a special 93rd birthday. The staff decorated specially in just the perfect window area of the pub. The atmosphere is so welcoming including kids and even the dogs! The staff and service was just excellent. Sunday lunch we all immediately opted for the Roast beef which was cooked to perfection and comes with a huge Yorkshire pudding, roasties, all your fave veggies and the best stuffing I've ever tasted! Pudding was an easy choice for most with an all time fave of Sticky Toffee Pudding but I chose the Rice Pudding with apples & homemade honeycomb.....every mouthful tasted like apple crumble, it was delicious. Coffee and birthday cake to end a wonderful lunch in a gorgeous setting which even included a quick trip to the playpark conveniently located across the street :) We will absolutely be back!!! ā”

As it was Monday night I couldn't find anywhere else to eat, so many pubs and restaurants were closed! I had to travel just over ten miles but boy was it worth it. I had the beer battered Pollock and it was superb. The beer was exceptionally well kept as well. Would recommend this pub as the whole experience was great, a special sound out to the young lady who answered the phone as her easy, confident, manner on the phone convinced me to get in the car and both young ladies in the bar especially the red head who was lovely! Not a fan of the basket idea, my fork kept going through the greaseproof paper, would have preferred a plate. With food this good you don't need a gimmick!

This hotel is such a fabulous hotel, great location, good sized room/bathroom, great sized bed & soft fluffy towels. To add to this, the food was delicious, fantastic service and staff are friendly, helpful and all with a smile. We stayed Friday night and had an early engagement, Christine made sure our dinner was on time and made sure we had everything before finishing her shift. Honestly, what a lovely lady. She was just as helpful and cheerful the next morning. The lamb dinner in the evening was absolutely delicious š The complimentary glass of Prosecco and half a beer was a fabulous touchā¦ not advertised enough. Luckily we found a voucher in the room. And the choice of breakfast was amazing. We had smashed avo on toasted sourdough, seasoned with a hint of lemon, pesto leaves, chilly flakes and a perfect poached egg on the sideā¦ all done to perfectionā¦ well done to whoever made that šš»šš»šš»šš» And for once the tea in the teapot was actually boiling, so I had a hot cup of tea with my breakfastā¦ again perfect! One small thingā¦ a little more light in the bathroom or in the bedroom with a good mirror for us older ladies would be helpful!

Every single member of the team at The Crown Blandford have gone out of their way to accommodate our large family group. The food has been exceptional as are the rooms which are beautiful and spotless. The food at every meal has been amazing. At dinner, every single plate for our large group came out at the same time and was piping hot and delicious. We were well looked after and checked in on regularly. The welcome is warm and friendly and every part of our requests were accommodated including providing an accessible room for a family member needing a lift and a room with support. Reception did a great job of coordinating our group and helping with all of our requests. The bar staff also did really well to help us as we ordered drinks throughout the day. Thank you so much to everyone at The Crown ! We are very grateful and canāt wait to bring our family group back to see you !

My wife and I booked for one night's stay at the Crown Hotel recently, as it looked very nice and the price was more competitive than other hotels within this region. It's a beautifully maintained Georgian building in nice location, offering us easy access to numerous locations we wanted to visit in Dorset. We needed a second night's stay added, which was sorted out very easily and all prices, including our breakfast were clarified at reception. The staff were all pleasantly professional and the food choice was very good and of high quality. The room was clean, with a touch of character in line with age of building and had everything to make our stay comfortable. We were disturbed on second night by another guest's barking dog, although this was brief. Parking space is abundant and easy to access. There's also a very big beer garden outside hotel, which looked a popular feature in the sunny weather. Overall, generally pleased with our stay at the Crown and would recommend to others.
