Restaurant Lovage by Lee Smith
Bath St, Bakewell DE45 1DS, UK

“We were looking for a fine dining place to eat while in Bakewell and Lovage by Lee Smith did not disappoint. We went for the three courses for £45, however, note that does not include sides which is £5 each (and necessary if you don't just want to eat just meat!) That was my only gripe. We were served by Jonathan who was professional, hospitable and very knowledgeable about the dishes. The meal started with a delicious croustard and warm sourdough bread. I enjoyed every course. As an avid watcher of Great British Menu and the mouthwatering food that is served, I was pleased, and not surprised to hear that Chef Lee Smith was on this show. Delicious food, reasonable priced and I was full at the end.”

“My 4th visit here and I was a little disappointed. The canapés and amuse bouche were a little bit tasteless. The main course was very very salty. I ordered the hake because the last time I came I had lamb and couldn’t cut through the tough sinews (even with the serrated knife supplied). The hake was cooked well but everything else around it was just so so salty. I had panna cotta for desert which was cooked to perfection, creamy, smooth and with a slight wobble. It was drowned out by a very tart tasting kind of blackcurrant jam, very overpowering. There were piped dots of a kind of cream and then pistachios over the top. It was all too much and spoiled the beauty of the panna cotta. I am an enthusiastic cook at home and the taste of the food when I’m dining out matters. The service I couldn’t fault and the place was spotless with a classy feel to it. The food for me though is the most important thing of all and it’s this that let the place down.”

“An absolute gem of a restaurant. Visited after booking at the last minute with my partner, greeted by welcoming staff the atmosphere was wonderful a rustic traditional country atmosphere set in an old barn. The drinks menu is extensive and reasonably priced. You pre order your food so the starter is delivered to your table quickly. The food was tasty and good portion sizes. We had the sharing cheesy garlic mushrooms it’s served with both white and brown bread to assist with the enjoyment of dipping the juice up. I ordered the 16oz ribeye steak medium rare and that’s exactly what was served both well cooked and extremely tender and tasty. My partner had the fillet steak medium well and again cooked to perfection, both served with mushrooms tomatoes corn on the cob and skin on fries. We followed this with dessert. The whole experience was wonderful the food well cooked and enjoyable. We will definitely be visiting again.”

“We ate in the restaurant, enjoying the 6 course menu. The restaurant is setup such that even when full each table still feels private. Service was unobtrusive but warm and professional. Food was excellent- fresh ingredients, good use of taste, colour and texture. A great meal, if slightly on the expensive side.”

“Fantastic breakfast/ brunch. Extremely accommodating of food allergies. As standard the sausages are gluten free and the most fantastic gluten free bread. Portion sizes are quite unbelievable and brilliant value. Lovely coffee with the added touch of a mini mince pie on the run up to Christmas. Photo of the full English breakfast which my husband didn’t quite manage to complete!”

“I've been wanting to go to this place since I saw it on the Hairy Bikers and I was not disappointed. I went for an early lunch after a bike ride and had a fantastic mutton curry with incredible jollof rice. The curry itself was tasty and spicy without being hot. The hot sauce that was put to one side in a bowl was more than hot enough if you were feeling brave. The homemade non-alcoholic punch was beautiful. It was so nice that I asked what else they had that I could take it home, so I've got some more jollof rice and an incredible chicken dish. The place itself - and the views - make it even more special, as does the easy hospitality of Stella. There's nothing like this place and I'll definitely be back.”

“Visited Fischer's at Baslow Hall for an early valentine's dinner with my partner. Neil and the serving staff were great and very friendly. The service never felt rushed and we had a drink in the bar area before being shown to our table. My partner and I have eaten at a fair few fine dining/Michelin restaurants over the years but this was the first time we've booked the Kitchen Bench experience. Ant and his kitchen staff were all very professional and relaxed and were happy to chat, have a laugh and answer any questions we had. They explained the dishes and the processes behind them and it was interesting to see the dishes being assembled and 'coming to live' on the pass. We enjoyed a 9 course tasting menu with some of the highlights being the fish course (especially the Bouillabaisse which it was served with), the Mushroom Pithivier and Egg Custard Tart! We were both very pleased with the whole experience and would thoroughly recommend it. Thanks for a great evening!”
