The Best Restaurants in Fairfield, Derbyshire, United Kingdom (2025)

The Peak District has been a walkers' playground for generations of people over many years, the scenery is rugged, but wonderful, the weather occasionally terrible, but achingly beautiful when the sun comes out and casts it's spell on the landscape. From the top of the escarpment, a couple of miles or so beyond where I live, the view in all directions makes the uphill toil well worth the effort. It's known as 'Sheffield's Playground', generations of walkers have trudged uphill and into the Peak District to be rewarded with a marvellous view and it never fails to impress! Take a picnic, relax and look at the scenery whilst munching!

This is an amazing place to be. There are around 3 car parks and most of them get fully occupied by 9:00 am. The walk starts with all the carparks leading to the main path finally. Which means you can start from wherever you are. There are three peaks where you climb up and down and enjoy your time on a bright sunny day!

During my stay in Sheffield, South Yorkshire in 2011-12, Peak District was a place where we went for a short hike and trip a few times. It is an immensely beautiful and tranquil place to get your face treated by the cool breeze of air. Despite being so close to the Sheffield city, coming here feels like we’ve drifted far away to a natural paradise.

Bleaklow Stones are pretty easy to get to from the Woodhead Tunnel where there is parking space for around 20 cars. Once up on the moors a map is essential as the footpaths dissappear in places and it could be easy to get lost if not familiar with the area. Also be aware that the weather can change quite suddenly so make sure you take appropriate clothing.

Been going here for a few years now, once or twice a year. Always excellent, friendly service. The steaks are the best going. Very good value for money. Genuine rustic farm setting. Pre book a couple of months ahead.

This was our first visit to The Bull Shed and we loved it! It's very rustic, and very friendly and down to earth. Going job we booked as it was almost full. My husband and I had a melting camembert sharer to start - loads of bread and cooked to perfection. Then we both had rib eye steak, which came with chips, mushrooms, corn on the cob and a couple of cherry tomatoes. I can honestly say it was the best steak I've ever had. The service was great, staff were very welcoming and we'll definitely be back! Highly recommend A ++

It was the lads Christmas party and decided to come to the Bull Shed for our meal. The food was delicious and the ambiance was lively. Although we had to wait between courses, we had a lot of catching up to do. The lamb chop was worth that wait.

An out of the way place in a beautiful location - unique, quirky and very welcoming. Pre-ordering makes the service very efficient. Great food. Bought goats cheese to enjoy at home which had a subtle flavour and was delicious. Overall experience highly recommended. Thank you to all the staff.

Fischer’s is an exceptional restaurant. Every course was fantastic. It’s the second time we’ve been and the food was just as good this time round. We eat at a lot of fine dining restaurants and this is up there with the best food we’ve had.

Visited Fischer's at Baslow Hall for an early valentine's dinner with my partner. Neil and the serving staff were great and very friendly. The service never felt rushed and we had a drink in the bar area before being shown to our table. My partner and I have eaten at a fair few fine dining/Michelin restaurants over the years but this was the first time we've booked the Kitchen Bench experience. Ant and his kitchen staff were all very professional and relaxed and were happy to chat, have a laugh and answer any questions we had. They explained the dishes and the processes behind them and it was interesting to see the dishes being assembled and 'coming to live' on the pass. We enjoyed a 9 course tasting menu with some of the highlights being the fish course (especially the Bouillabaisse which it was served with), the Mushroom Pithivier and Egg Custard Tart! We were both very pleased with the whole experience and would thoroughly recommend it. Thanks for a great evening!

We have eaten here a few times now and class it as a treat for a special occasion. We ate here recently and the food was very good as usual. However, I was shocked at the increase in price. The website which I have just checked again advertises 2 courses from £35 but this is no longer the case. It's more like £50 as you now pay for separate courses. So the website needs to be updated asap. We also used to get appetizers served to us before we went into the dining room and also between courses but sadly not any more. Again, really enjoyed what we had but only fo a special occasion.

Didn’t stay but ate for my birthday lunch. Made to feel very welcome and loved every minute. Great service from Otto. Thanks so much to the team for making me feel special! The food was sublime and the star of the show was the cod main course with saffron sauce. Otto added he brought the saffron from Morocco himself which was a lovely touch. What a treat I had today! Wish The Herb Garden was in my town!! Great place, great food and great service! Had a delish cooked breakfast then lingered over a second coffee while I chose which cakes (decided on Lemon & lime and Chocolate & coconut) and which savouries to take away… later enjoyed the Persian pie lunch on my journey back home to N Wales! Thank you!!!

Delicious vegan and vegetarian food, with lovely friendly service. We had a delicious lunch here and will return .

Lovely little place that also caters well for vegans and my daughter was very impressed. Soup, wrap, tofu dish, two nice pieces of cake and three drinks (elderflower cordial, raspberry milkshake and water) less than £30. Friendly staff and pleasant lunch except for the other customers with yapping little dogs!

Visited Buxton for the day and this was the only place we could find (from searching online) that served plant-based food AND was dog friendly. Nice little café, we sat outside so can't comment on the atmosphere, but the staff were lovely and it was obvious they took great care over the place and what they were serving. We ate the homemade vegan burger and coronation tofu quesadilla, and both were really fresh and tasty!

Our second time here, first time trying the grazing menu. Food was absolutely outstanding. Louis made our experience special and memorable. Sam and Sadie were very efficient too. Totally recommended. Big thank you for our Instagram competition prize.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience here last night celebrating a belated anniversary. The food was incredible - our particular favourites were the 4 courses to start and the two desserts, but we weren’t disappointed with even one dish. The service was another highlight, everyone was very attentive and polite, however one of the service staff in particular (I apologise for not remembering her name!) went above and beyond with her drink recommendations, her attitude and conversation, answering any questions we had, and thoroughly helped elevate our experience even more! I cannot wait to come back again to try their different seasonal menus, this has been a real find and I really hope they get their Michelin star soon as they really deserve it. Thank you for such a wonderful and memorable evening!

The Lighthouse's Summer 24' menu is extraordinary . We thoroughly enjoyed all dishes which went very well with the drinks pairing. Every dish, from the Japanese Milk Bread with butter to the Orkney Scallop with massaman and chili lime cashews, was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Overall, the Summer menu at The Lighthouse is a testament to their culinary excellence and I'm looking forward to returning again soon.

We held our wedding at the White Hart Inn on Saturday 24 August 2024 and it was nothing short of wonderful. The day was perfect and absolutely seamless thanks to the wonderful staff at the venue. We would like to say a huge thank you to Katy our wedding planner, whose attention to detail, patience, knowledge and care was second to none. Katy expertly guided us through the intricate journey of wedding planning, answered all of our questions and was always super helpful. The wider staff team were also amazing and genuinely couldn't do enough for us. We would highly recommend this beautiful venue. Thank you so much - we will treasure the memories forever. We had our wedding reception at The White Hart and couldn't fault the service from start to finish! Our coordinator Katy was super helpful and always responded to our questions and emails and was very flexible, nothing was too much trouble! Even having three tractors rock up! On the day the staff set out decor up perfectly and were really responsive! The food was incredible and the bar had a fab variety! The hotel rooms were so luxurious with lovely little touches like a hamper with biscuits and face masks and robes and slippers!

A great place to stop. We had a lovely room, great breakfast and a Sunday dinner to die for. Good stop over. Very clean and good outdoor space.

Really enjoyed our visit to the Christmas Market. Lots of lovely artisan stalls with unique gifts. Only downside was having to leave at 1pm when we were ready to sit down and sample some of the lovely food of offer. We did however find a lovely local pub to eat in instead!

Stunning house & grounds in private family ownership. Our visit was pre-Christmas whilst the annual Christmas Market was in situ. Hugely enjoyable in crisp winter sunshine. The house is full of history and atmosphere.

We visited today after joining Historic Houses. What a beautiful and atmospheric property. The guides were very knowledgeable and we enjoyed both talks. The house was beautifully transformed for Halloween and there were activities including broomstick making, potion mixing, spell writing and ghost making. Although probably aimed for the younger visitors, my inner child meant I had to have a go at them all! We only had time for a brief look around the grounds but will definitely return another day. We also ate in the cafe and the food was delicious and well presented. All in all, a fabulous place to visit.

This is a member of Historic Houses which we've found very good. I had no expectations or knowledge of this place and thought it was great. And the ability to get really close to everything not standing a way behind ropes as in many properties. Death masks- macabre maybe, but fascinating. I enjoyed imagining how many people must have walked on those stones to wear them down as they are. Great visit.

One of the best Sunday roasts around. Superb atmosphere, excellent service and pretty much faultless. Tricky to get a cab to return so pre book. Also dress code is country casual.

We stopped by for an impromptu lunch, we chose a selection of starters and dessert. We were extremely happy we did. The food was delicious, each plate was simply delicious and exciting, so much so I am thinking of travelling back to stay overnight just so we can eat again. The hosts were very professional, a beautiful experience all round. Thank you.

We had a wonderful evening at the Blind Bull last night! Wonderful service, attentive and very friendly. The food is simply delicious, I was even made a special birthday cocktail by the bar man 🍸 As a local, we are so lucky to have such a fantastic dining option which maintains high end food with a relaxed and comfortable environment. Good portion size. We had Sunday roast here. The pork was cooked perfectly and gravy tasted very good. The vegetarian option also available. Soup of the day was a great way to start the meal. Very good selection of drinks available

We came here to celebrate our anniversary and there were 6 of us with 2 vegans and 1 gluten-free and really happy that the Woodyard was able to cater all of our needs. We ordered three mushroom risottos with one vegan & gluten free and we all enjoyed it! The risotto was really tasty and rich, the portion size was generous and very filling. By the way I had the asparagus, spinach and pea risotto (not on the menu anymore) when I visited here for the first time last year and it was amazing too! We also ordered two different burgers (Woodyard classic & pulled pork) and a vegan pizza, they were all delicious! I enjoyed my cheesecake as dessert which was beautifully presented and the ice creams, and vegan chocolate fudge cake were good too. Overall we were really happy with the food they offered. In terms of services, the staff was very attentive and friendly. They took our orders very detailed and double checking to make sure everything was right. One of them help took some group photos of us when spotted that we were taking selfies and struggled to fill 6 people in which was really kind - sometimes these small details can really touch you, especially how British people don’t usually like asking for help 🤣 Overall we really enjoyed our experience in Woodyard and would definitely recommend to anyone who visit Bakewell/Peak District to go!

The main course and flatbread was really good but the soup could have been a bit better. Adele , our host is a gem. One of the best and friendly host I came across after a long time. She deserves a 5* rating and hence we gave a decent tip as well. It was busy on a Sunday evening and quite lively.

My husband and I visited Bakewell for our anniversary and we were so glad we came across the Woodyard. We were met with a warm welcome by the lovely and friendly staff. The menu options and specials were plentiful and we were checking out all the delicious plates coming past us. We opted for a garlic & mozzarella flatbread to start and then fish and chips and the beef & kidney stew (special) - it was all absolutely delicious. We couldn’t have asked for better and was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. We hope to return again and sample more of the wonderful menu. Thanks again, we loved it!

From the initial phone call to book, to getting the bill, this place is faultless! Service was impeccable, food delightful and location perfect. My friend and I went for a nice birthday dinner, so glad we did! We had the sharing starter platter and then the chateaubriand for 2. Cooked to perfection, the peppercorn sauce was divine and the meat cooked to perfection. Would definitely choose here again. Top quality at good prices.

Came here following recommendations from family. Great draught drinks selection, lovely to get Moritz and and Super Bock in the UK. Staff were really friendly and service time was as you'd expect for a busy Saturday night. The starters were lovely, parmsean mushrooms and hot honey fried chicken . The garden vegan burger was really nice, like falafel, unfortunately the beef burger was a little dry, you could tell the meat was good quality but it just felt like it needed to be juicier. It's a giant patty so maybe would just be better as two, but generally good food all round. The only real down side for us was the live music starting while we were eating, we were upstairs and our chairs were vibrating where it was coming up through the floor and it was quite loud while trying to chat over dinner. It looked fab when we went downstairs through the bar after dinner, but for eating it wasn't great to have that going on, I'd have been quite peeved if I'd paid out say for a steak and then the floor was rocking . If we'd have been given the heads up we would have booked earlier before the music started so perhaps something for people to bear in mind .

This was my last supper in a week's trip where I had not truly enjoyed a meal, so a lot was riding on this one, and Bailey's did not disappoint. Although they were busy, they did not seem to consider my presence an imposition, the way many restaurants treat a lone diner without a reservation. Instead they welcomed me warmly and proceeded to serve me food that was out of this world. They were out of the sticky prawns starter (reasonable after a busy pre-theatre crowd) so I went for the calamari instead, and I think I lucked out. They were tender, without even a hint of rubberiness, accompanied by a gentle tangy sauce on a generous bed of bacon morsels. Main course was a perfect fillet of beef with Café de Paris butter, and the most perfect chips ever. Oh and a surprise corn on the cob. Finished with an exquisite crème brulée, which itself was accompanied by a surprise pair of shortbread biscuits. I could find no fault at all with any course, and I'm kind of sad it's all over now. Highly recommended.

Would recommend, we had the roast which was very tasty. The cocktails were one of the best i have had. We booked a table which i would suggest as it was very busy.
