It was the lads Christmas party and decided to come to the Bull Shed for our meal. The food was delicious and the ambiance was lively. Although we had to wait between courses, we had a lot of catching up to do. The lamb chop was worth that wait.

An out of the way place in a beautiful location - unique, quirky and very welcoming. Pre-ordering makes the service very efficient. Great food. Bought goats cheese to enjoy at home which had a subtle flavour and was delicious. Overall experience highly recommended. Thank you to all the staff.

Been going here for a few years now, once or twice a year. Always excellent, friendly service. The steaks are the best going. Very good value for money. Genuine rustic farm setting. Pre book a couple of months ahead.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience here last night celebrating a belated anniversary. The food was incredible - our particular favourites were the 4 courses to start and the two desserts, but we weren’t disappointed with even one dish. The service was another highlight, everyone was very attentive and polite, however one of the service staff in particular (I apologise for not remembering her name!) went above and beyond with her drink recommendations, her attitude and conversation, answering any questions we had, and thoroughly helped elevate our experience even more! I cannot wait to come back again to try their different seasonal menus, this has been a real find and I really hope they get their Michelin star soon as they really deserve it. Thank you for such a wonderful and memorable evening!

Our second time here, first time trying the grazing menu. Food was absolutely outstanding. Louis made our experience special and memorable. Sam and Sadie were very efficient too. Totally recommended. Big thank you for our Instagram competition prize.

The Lighthouse's Summer 24' menu is extraordinary . We thoroughly enjoyed all dishes which went very well with the drinks pairing. Every dish, from the Japanese Milk Bread with butter to the Orkney Scallop with massaman and chili lime cashews, was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Overall, the Summer menu at The Lighthouse is a testament to their culinary excellence and I'm looking forward to returning again soon.

Called in a few times when passing by for breakfast or lunch and a coffee. The pork stuffing and apple sauce cob I had recently was a meal in it self and I can’t wait to try the Yorkshire pudding and beef cob. The home-cooked frozen meals are great value and really tasty. And of course there is all the other great food that is available. If you are nearby then The Farm Shop is well worth a call

Lovely place, inviting and a very pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Richard and the team are really friendly and welcoming - no pressure if you're just browsing! But you won't come away empty handed!. Really nice selection of food stuff (think all sorts of dairy, fruit, veg, meats, baking, treats, cake and ice creams etc ) and fresh tea's and proper fresh ground coffee, cold drinks etc. I think they're reasonably priced, too. You can get takeaway food (I've seen bacon butties and proper oven baked jacket potatoes, etc) and drink, and there's a little table and chairs outside to sit and enjoy something. It's covered but open sided. Fresh bread from the loaf at Crich is on a Monday (I think) and we all know that's a great bakery. But it goes quick! It's become a regular stop off for me and my mum. Lots of parking spaces and just a wide shallow step up to the shop door, it's all flat inside, so great access for the infirm or wobbly of legged!

First of all, The Service 3 waitress probably the best service I’ve had in 18 months. Greeting at the door, Happy faces and really attentive. 10/10 for that as it’s not always easy to get people in a rural setting that are as subscribed as the staff here. Secondly the food. 10 course menu all perfectly sized and beautiful complex flavours. Could not complain about any of the dishes but the desserts were the stand out courses for all four of us. Followed by Really Really Good Coffee. Just over £300 for 4 people. One glass of wine and 6/8 soft drinks, Well worth it. The decor is fine but some better surroundings would better suit this level of catering and service, but to be fair they have only been at it 8 months at this location and you can’t get a table for 3 months so the beginning of successful future I think… Will be back

I run out of superlatives for this place! It is exceptional. This menu yet again delivered exquisite food, beautifully served in perfect low-key and friendly surroundings. Every time we come we say it’s the best ever and indeed it was said again last night! This Chef is unbelievably good. We will return!

Dinner The Tasting Club By George Bloor We've been trying to get in here since they opened in April this year. It would be easier to win the lottery. We thought we had won when we managed to get a last minute table. Here's why its so popular. Chef/ Owner George Bloor was named Best Chef in Derbyshire at the young age of 21. Now having over ten years of experience cooking in Michelin awarded kitchens around the country, he left his post at previous “Derbyshire Restaurant of the Year” The Lighthouse Restaurant, to set up his first solo venture. The Tasting Club Snacks 1 crispy pork belly + stuffing nugget with cranberry gel 2 roast turkey soup/ crispy skin/ crunchy sprouts/ bacon & chestnut 3 Smoking cauliflower cheese & English truffle tart 4 Not another prawn cocktail N’duja glazed BBQ Argentinian Red Shrimp lettuce/ chorizo/ Marie Rose / preseved lemon/ pil-pil croutons 5 Wild Row Deer Lasange 24 hour sticky râgú with tomato roasted squash + creamy herb bechamel textures of Parmesan 6 Coal for Christmas Derbyshire aged beef fillet in charcoal crispy onions + baby leeks bone sauce with chive oil 7 Gingerbread man milk chocolate parfait/ eggnog mousse/ hazelnut ice cream/ honeycomb 8+9 Look it's snowing coconut ~ passion ~ cheesecake ~ blood orange From start to finish the dishes were beautifully presented and the taste sensations just kept on getting better as each course was served. The succulent Prawns in the starter😋 And the lasagne, dare we say "the best we have ever had". The staff are young and well versed on the dishes they serve to the table. An absolutely stunning menu which changes with the seasons. As good as any Michelin starred restaurant we have been to, if not better. Another visit just as good👍

Dinner Managed to get a last-minute table for dinner. It's so popular and booked up way in advance. Don't know why we are telling people about here as it's hard enough to get in as it is. It would be easier to get a booking at a three ⭐️⭐️⭐️Michelin restaurant. Here's why it's so popular. Chef/ Owner George Bloor was named Best Chef in Derbyshire at the young age of 21. Now, having over ten years of experience cooking in Michelin, awarded kitchens around the country. Set up his first solo venture last year. This was our second visit, and it was just as good as the first time. From start to finish, the dishes were beautifully presented with a little bit of theatre too. Stopped here for lunch today. Easy parking. Very welcoming young woman behind the bar told us fine to bring in the dog and gave us a table near the fire. I had a braised beef balti (£14.95 ) which was very pleasant and more than I could eat. My wife had a ‘small’ lasagne which was quite a good size, which she enjoyed (£8.95). Good inexpensive pub food. Excellent and fast service to table. Very decent coffee to follow. Really good clean loos as well. When we left we took a short walk along the river from the car park. All good. Recommended!

On entering the historic building, sympathetically brought up to date, we were met with a warm welcome and shown to a table. The autumn menu seemed to cater for all tastes, with a particularly interesting selection of starters, some traditional, some more " in vogue". The mains included options for those with dietary needs, along with fairly traditional dishes given an exciting interpretation. Personally, I'd not normally pick chicken on a menu as it's too everyday, but I opted for the chicken kyiv with the chef's magic touch and was suitably impressed. Desserts were equally imaginative and I felt compelled to try one, despite the generous portions already consumed. The wine list again catered for all tastes, with a good selection of " by the glass" possibilities. The staff were both friendly and efficient and the overall experience a delight.

Out for a meal with 2 friends . There should have been 4 of us : he defo missed out. Lovely setting , good food and lovely waitresses . The menu changes every month… so photos are from the August 22 menu . Bit of a treck for us to go from Stoke but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ( already have actually)

Still going, again and again, as promised; this remains the stand-out best place to eat (IMHO) in Ashbourne! Excellent; no other word for it! Despite living locally for some time, we have never dined here - regretting that now!! One of the best dinning experiences for some considerable time. The interior looks fresh and modern; the staff are utterly professional in everything they do (well trained / very experienced); the food is exceptional in flavour, presentation, and is delivered on hot plates; finally, the menu is seasonal, so expect the dishes to change - Spring, Summer, and Autumn. As I always say: get yourself along, whether local or just passing through … I know we’ll be going again, and again! 😉

Recently stayed at The Cow with my wife for her birthday. Overall a lovely place and a great evening meal, however, a couple of things let it down and I don't think the stay is value for money. Our room was lovely however, it was right next to the bar area and opposite the kitchen so was very noisy. There were 4 rooms available when I booked, had known where it was located I would have chosen one of the others and I do think this is something they should make you aware of and the room rate maybe reduced as a result compared to the other rooms. At £220 a night I do think the rooms are expensive for what they are, they're lovely and the Molton Brown bits are a nice touch but with no breakfast included they're on the *expensive* end. Some form of breakfast should definitely be included IMO, some toast, a pastry or some cereal from a self serve section would be welcomed. It's also laughable that you have teabags and a kettle in your room but if you ask for a tea with your breakfast it's chargeable. We went with eggs and smoked salmon on toast with two cappucinos for breakfast which cost us another 30 something pounds. Our evening meal was great, really nice food, environment, staff were helpful and friendly. I had cod which was lovely and I thought I'd make the most of their fresh cornish fish. Potato dauphinoise a little greasy for my liking but overall a lovely meal. Had a really nice sauvignon blanc, can't remember the name but the wine was really good. On checkout I mentioned the room noise and the fact I booked the room based on it's overall look but as above wouldn't have if I'd known it's location. I was met with a very generic, unbelievable apology but no offer of a small gesture or discount. Overall I paid around £350 for a one night stay here with breakfast and dinner which I think is a tad on the expensive side BUT it was still nice though wouldn't rush back.

A positively faultless experience, easily one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. Super lovely staff, immaculate rooms with romantic flair, one of the most comfy beds we've ever slept on! Courtyard access from the bedroom on the ground floor was delightful (and under-advertised - it was a very pleasant surprise!), room was super toasty and warm (but not stifling). Food was Michelin-star level good, and we felt spoilt for choice despite being vegan - easily one of the best meals out we've had over many years. All the theming and decor is stunning, so much thought and care put into making the place a perfect blend of modern/rustic. Can't recommend enough, the perfect domestic luxury break. Thank you so much for a perfect time.

I visited The Cow on Sunday for a roast with a couple of friends. I have a severe peanut allergy and found out on arrival that there were peanuts present in the kitchen, in the nut roast. One lady in particular was amazing and so kind, I think she might have been the manager. She spoke to the kitchen and gave me really detailed information on where food was prepped and which option would be safest. She then carried my food out herself and gave me my own portion of vegetables. I felt really at ease, thank you! ❤️ The food was delicious too! 😊

The best Sunday lunch we’ve had in years. 8 of us really enjoyed the warm and inviting atmosphere at The Cow. It’s exactly what quality English pubs should be like. A credit to the management and team. Thank you.

Exceptional beef Sunday roast, the lamb roast was also perfect so my hungry sister said. Honey roasted carrot, parsnip and mash hiding under the Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was beautifully rich in flavour. For £13 this is a gem and the staff were so friendly.

Absolutely fabulous place. Great hosts, friendly. Family friendly. Dog friendly. Nice freshly prepared food and locally source produce. If walking in the area (Carsington water, Ashbourne etc) definitely recommend. But do check out opening times etc.

We have enjoyed this place two nights running, lovely atmosphere, lovely staff and great food on both occasions. We were staying at the Carsington water caravan park and would highly reccomend it to anyone staying there or in the area. Great value while ON EAT OYT TO HELP Out, but would be happy paying full price.

A genuinely lovely country pub, so much character and a charming atmosphere. If you can get one of the armchairs by the fire on a winter's evening it's amazing. The food is excellent, it's known for its pie menu but it's all good. I recommend the venison and red wine pie particularly.

Great food served by friendly and helpful staff. We prebooked a table for a Friday evening as it is known to be busy, we were welcomed with a smile, served our drinks and shown to our table. When we ordered the service was quick and efficient. The waitress then returned to confirm if we were satisfied and later returned to offer us the desserts menu. Only slight issue was that the bar was crowded by drinkers when it came to paying the bill. We will definitely be back again soon.

Wonderful first visit this evening to this quaint little pub. Wonderful 'proper' pies - hearty portions and there was a lovely young girl who served us - very friendly and attentive. Children enjoyed their food too. Typical hearty home cooked food 👌

Fabulous pub. A group of 9 of us went on Tuesday Night is Pie Night. We had such a huge choice of homemade pies, sides and gravies. Nutella Cheesecake, Trifle and Sponge Puddings were superb as well. The service was outstanding, the young lady who served us was an absolute superstar. I had Chicken and Chorizo Pie, Cheese and Bacon Mash, Chips Shop Mushy Peas and Gravy. It was so good. I was driving, so they even made me a pot of tea.

Went here for our anniversary meal out and it did not disappoint. From the minute we walked in the staff were absolutely outstanding and couldn't do enough for us. They were all extremely friendly, efficient and professional. We had a right laugh with them about something that would take too long to explain, they were brilliant. The food was also exceptional. We had the sticky beef to share to start with, then I had the steak and blue cheese pizza, the wife had the surf and turf pizza and I portion of scoop fries to share, it was all fantastic. Credit to the staff, chefs and management for running a fantastic pub / restaurant.

We had a lovely lunch here. Since they sell themselves as a steakhouse, I thought I should try their fillet steak. It was perfectly tender! Nice recommendations from the staff for the sticky chilli beef as a starter too. A very friendly lady served us.

This place is a little gem. Booked short notice for an evening meal (20:45) and they were able to fit us in. The staff were very friendly and clearly appreciated regulars as well as new guests, the venue is clean, tidy and well decorated. The menu had some great dishes with unique twists (I had the Pizza/chicken burger) such as the haggis and chips (cheese too). Desserts were outstanding also. Highly recommended.
