I was told about this nice Pub by some locals, and it didn't disappoint—unique selections of ciders and beers and a good atmosphere. The staff were helpful. We have been to Horely 3 years in a row as a stopover for a day and this will be a place to visit again for sure. We didn't try the food so I cannot comment

Had a great experience here food was great and friendly staff will definitely be back especially as it is a dog friendly pub and has a dog menu available which definitely made it one of our favourite places , thank-you

We had a great evening watching the football and playing darts. Our waitress Marie was lovely and very attentive. Would definitely visit again

I have been several times and I must say that I like the pie with steak and peas, I recommend the location. It is central, easy to access and very lively.

I was starving hungry and the Foresters did not disappoint. Demolished this Three Meat Roast and great tasting trimmings. If only I could have this every Sunday! Great feature to have TV at the booths. Nice vibes on a Sunday night. Not rowdy, not crowded. As said before nice friendly helpful staff

On the way to the airport and thought we would try something outside the hotel holiday inn which was 3 times the price of this place. The food was ok for the money we paid and the portion sizes were fair. Service was warm and friendly and the overall experience was good. I would return. Thanks guys.

Great local pub supporting a vibrant local live music scene

We only stopped here briefly, but it seemed to be a vibrant and busy enough pub, with decent beers on draught. There was also a list of bands due to play so it seems to be the place to go for live music locally. All in all, I would happily recommend visiting.

Great pub in the heart of Horley. There's always a great atmosphere wherever I visit. The staff are lovely and there are regular events. Great pool table and table football too.

Incredible time at Halt & Pull!! Flawless service - our waiter/bartender was so lovely and kindly advised us on the menu. The food was to die for - it was that good we may well take a train trip down to go back later in the year! Really fantastic and wish this was my local pub! Special mention for the calamari and steaks.

We booked a table for 5:30pm at the Halt & Pull on 6/19/24. We were seated right away and the staff were all very welcoming. The menu had a good variety of options and a fantastic selection of drinks. It's a dog-friendly pub. The prices were reasonable, the food was tasty, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was fantastic. A perfect place to grab a drink and a meal with friends.

We popped in on Christmas day as the hotel we had booked lied about their food and drink menu online. The barman originally said we couldn't have food (fair enough it is Christmas day!) Then he heard about our hotel. He talked to the kitchen and let us stay for dinner, all with a smile on his face! Quick service and a lovely staff. Highly recommend.

Friendly greeting. Managed to get a 2 seat table by the window with awesome views of the runway and gates! Little English breakfast was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. Food delivered swiftly. Great experience. Ukrainian and Polish servers very courteous and pleadant!!

Really nice place to eat at. The food I had was delicious (had Mexican Breakfast without chorizo) and coconut cappuccino. The staff is incredibly friendly and the service is super quick!! The lady who took care of me was just delightful (table 32) which is a lovely experience to have before the morning flight. Thank you. Will definitely come back.

Food was very tasty and had lots of options to choose from. Good price. A little noisy on the night I went but they had a couple of party tables. Remember you can bring your own alcohol as they don’t have an alcohol license.

The cocktails were quite tasty while the dish that I had-pollo parmigiano was delicious - the starter was enough for 2 people. The service was quite quick, and the atmosphere was great , it was an amazing energy quiet and calm.

Just stopped for a night in Horley before continue our journey to NY and found this place. Looks like a typical english pub/restaurant form a movie, great atmosphere, delicious food and 10/10 sercive. Highly recommended.

We asked our bus driver and he recommended this place. So glad he did! It’s a charming quaint cottage looking restaurant/pub. It has the perfect seating inside and a massive outside seating. Our server, Gok was wonderful. He told us about the history of the place (it’s 800 years old)! He was so entertaining explaining all the stories. There is apparently an undiscovered tunnel that goes from the restaurant to the old church and cemetery next door. This place looks like it’s out of a novel. The food was great and the pudding dessert is a must (we had 3). Everyone in my family was happy and it added to the charm of visiting the UK. Ask for Gok he’s been there 8 years and he will make your experience even better with his knowledge of the place.

Lovely pub with friendly and helpful staff, and cozy atmosphere. The fairy lights made it feel extra special. The food was reasonably priced especially the set menu for 2 courses at £18. We tried the gammon steak, chicken buttermilk burger and onion rings and can recommend. They also have a few vegan options as mains and 1 vegan dessert. Toilet was clean and tidy as well. Would definitely go there again. :)

Great Sunday roast Thor hammer ( beef) shank Loads and loads of meat with all the trimmings Yorkshire roasties carrots 🥕 broccoli 🥦 and my favourite parsnips. We also got pigs in blankets. Emma, the waitress looked after us so well, friendly, funny, and attentive. If you've still got room, the deserts are great too. My only gripe was that the table was too small for 4 of us. Otherwise, 5 stars worth a visit

Have just moved into the area and decded to go for Afternoon Tea for my hubby's Birthday. The food was awesome with lots of coffee and tea refills. Had to grab a takeaway box as couldn't eat it all. Excellent value for money and now booked in to try their food in the evening. If it's anything like what we have had already then it will be great

Had a traditional pub lunch here. Food was nice and hot and overall everything was good. We choose because it was within walking distance of our hotel and had a good sized menu with varied choices. Prices where about average for the area and no one had any complaints. Being Americans we liked how old and traditional the building and decor was. Nothing really stood out as exceptional, but I tend to be tough when it comes to raving about how good a place is. Definitely worth a try if it's not to far.

Traveled up from Bristol to pick my dad up from Gatwick airport the next morning, decided to try The Black horse 2 mins from hotel. Absolutely gorgeous, beautifully cooked food. Friendly staff and a beautiful pub. I will definitely visit again if I ever get the chance. 100% fantastic place to eat fully recommended!!

The Black Horse in Horley sits comfortably in the “pub with ambitions” category, a local trying to play on a slightly grander stage. It’s a fine aspiration, but aspirations alone don’t guarantee results, and here, it’s a mixed bag. Let’s start with the Mediterranean salad, priced at an eyebrow-raising £13.95. At that price, you’d expect a dish that sings of sun-dappled coastal markets and fresh sea air. Instead, what arrives is a bowl of chopped lettuce, some decent-enough olives, the odd sun-dried tomato, croutons, and a scattering of feta. The ingredients are undeniably fresh, but it’s a salad without a story, a dish that lacks the drama or complexity of something worthy of its price tag. Where’s the grilled aubergine or courgette? The roasted red peppers or artichoke hearts? It’s as if someone took the idea of the Mediterranean, stripped it of its romance, and replaced it with sweetness, a dressing so sugary it should come with a dental warning. The onion bhaji was a far better effort. Crisp, golden, and warmly spiced, it managed to deliver a little joy. That said, the garnish of wilted spinach and a stray tip of lettuce felt like an afterthought, and the drizzle of reduced balsamic was a nod to culinary trends that died with flip phones. But still, it was good enough to make you forgive these minor missteps. Then there was the curry, which was genuinely excellent. Deep, rich, and perfectly spiced, it showed a level of care and understanding that suggests someone in that kitchen knows what they’re doing. The rice, fluffy and fragrant, was the perfect companion. It’s the kind of dish that makes you wonder why the rest of the menu doesn’t quite rise to meet it. The staff, at least, are a credit to the place: friendly, efficient, and genuinely pleasant. They help lift the experience and make you want to root for the Black Horse. And to be fair, not everything on the menu carries the same high price tag as the salad. Most items are reasonably priced, leaning towards the upper end of pub dining but not outrageously so. The Black Horse has the bones of something great. The setting is welcoming, the service is excellent, and some of the dishes genuinely shine. But if it wants to justify its higher price points, it needs to refine its offering. Right now, it feels like a pub that’s reaching for greatness but hasn’t quite figured out how to get there.
