“Fantastic culinary experience at Sorrel on Thursday evening! Had the taster menu with wine flight and it was an incredible treat, very clever indeed! Even got invited to look in the kitchen, looking to return in summer! For me the dishes that stood out the most were the scallop, barbecued quail, supplementary cheese course and the blackberry waldorf dessert.”

“Wonderful experience. Found the venue on a review site. Booked a table, must admit it was 75 minutes drive away, but oh so worth it! Small bread "loaf" cut into four for us. Crumbly and delicious. We deliberately chose different dishes for each of the four courses to try as many dishes as possible. Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. Highlights are hard to identify, though I never thought I would have a liver parfait as good as Hestons, I was wrong. Special mention for the mock cocktails but my goodness the roast potatoes were quite exceptional too. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Very clean toilet. Met chef at the end of the meal, what a delightful passionate chef. Well worth the trip for some frankly quite exceptional food.”

“Really nice Sunday roast. We were served by Camdyn and she was so lovely! We mentioned my Mum’s birthday as a passing comment, Camdyn remembered and brought out a candle in the dessert. Such a lovely thought! Thank you for a great afternoon :)”

“Friendly and respectful service, very good food and nice size plates, the recommendations were amazing. I forgot to take the picture of the amazing started, but I got the picture of the Christmas dinner and the Alasca slice.”

“We enjoyed a light lunch at the Royal Oak in the middle of our walk in the Surrey hills. The weather was cold and damp so it was a treat to be welcomed into a warm, cozy pub with a fire blazing in the corner. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was tasty and nicely prepared. We would be happy to return to this pub when planning another walk in the area.”

The Dabbling Duck
Middle St, Shere, Guildford GU5 9HF, UK

“Had a lovely breakfast at the dabbling duck. The staff were all very friendly and service and food could not be faulted. There was only one fly in the ointment. We sat inside the cafe as did a lot of dog owners. My friend has allergies and is a bit wary of dogs so it was a bit off putting to her. They were also all a bit over excited and ‘talking’ to each other which made it hard for us to converse. I’ve no objection to well behaved dogs but not everyone feels the same for various reasons and they are not necessarily just being intolerant. The Dabbling Duck has a large heated marquee outside as well as covered heated outdoor seating. Would it not be a good compromise to welcome dogs only to these areas and keep the small inside seating area pet free. Other than that small niggle it was a lovely brunch before a bracing walk in beautiful countryside surrounding Shere.”

“Oh my gosh. Such an incredible pub - food was amazing and next level, service was absolutely brilliant too. Everyone was so friendly. I cannot recommend the crab on toast enough - the bread was (not kidding at all) the best bread I’ve ever had. Fish pie was also amazing. 10/10. Great food, energy and dog friendly so even better after a long dog walk with our puppy!! Will definitely be back!”

The Watermill

“The Watermill has always been my go-to pub in the summer, but this was my first time visiting during winter, and I’m so glad I did! I booked a Christmas brunch with friends, and the entire experience was fantastic. From the start, Daniel made us feel incredibly welcome. He had thoughtfully booked us a lovely table, keeping in mind that we had three toddlers with us. His friendly demeanor instantly put us at ease. Peter, who served us, was equally amazing—so kind, patient, and attentive, even amidst the inevitable chaos of having little ones at the table. He went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable and enjoying ourselves. Offered to click our pictures as well. The food quality was great as always, and the staff’s warmth and attentiveness really stood out. To top it off, they had a charming Christmas market in the outdoor area, with lots of cute things to browse and buy. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and I can’t wait to come back again—whether in summer or winter! Highly recommend The Watermill for its great food, friendly staff, and cozy ambiance.”

“Venue - Beautifully decorated and had a cosy vibe. Interesting choice of music (club/house music!), didn't really match the atmosphere! Food - The crab ravioli was amazing with a rich bisque and the crab meat was generous. Main course meat was cooked perfectly, and the side options were great. Only con would be the Lamb cutlets didn't come with any sauce, so it was literally just meat on the plate. Desserts were twists on classic dishes which worked well, only comment was that the sticky toffee pudding was hard in the middle. Service - The staff were friendly and accommodating, plenty of waiters to help. Unfortunately there was at least a 30 minute wait between starter and main, and our waitress hadn't actually tried many (if any) of the dishes so struggled to form an opinion. Overall - Has potential, just needs some tweaks! Will definitely be back to see how it develops”

“A great find, and a must-do if you’re staying at Wotton House or exploring the Surrey Hills. The manager was great in particular, conversational and funny. The staff were polite and attentive, food came out quickly and overall food was great too. The vibe is good. Cosy, but not sleepy. Modern and quality feel all round. Highly recommended!”

“Went for lunch after a walk in the area. Parking is easy to find and they have their own car park which is nice. The service was good and the food came out relatively promptly. There are some vegetarian options though the choice may be limited depending on your preferences. The burger was a fake meat type which was generously served but the quality of the patty fell a bit short considering the price. A bean based vegetarian burger would be much more popular in my opinion! The prices are quite expensive for the food but the portions are also huge (maybe a bit too big). Reducing both would make this a 5 star review.”
