“This was our first visit to the area so we asked a shop assistant if she could recommend a nice place for a birthday lunch. Without hesitation she recommended Positano. We were so glad she did. Everything was just brilliant from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious (we had the fried chicken in a white wine mushroom sauce and the salmon with spinach and crushed potatoes😋), the staff were very friendly and attentive throughout all in a lovely relaxing atmosphere too. Thank you for my birthday candle in my dessert it was a lovely thoughtful touch and most certainly the icing on the cake after a wonderful lunch! 😃🥰🎂”

“Really nice Sunday roast. We were served by Camdyn and she was so lovely! We mentioned my Mum’s birthday as a passing comment, Camdyn remembered and brought out a candle in the dessert. Such a lovely thought! Thank you for a great afternoon :)”

The Dabbling Duck
Middle St, Shere, Guildford GU5 9HF, UK
Phone: 01483 205791
“Had a lovely breakfast at the dabbling duck. The staff were all very friendly and service and food could not be faulted. There was only one fly in the ointment. We sat inside the cafe as did a lot of dog owners. My friend has allergies and is a bit wary of dogs so it was a bit off putting to her. They were also all a bit over excited and ‘talking’ to each other which made it hard for us to converse. I’ve no objection to well behaved dogs but not everyone feels the same for various reasons and they are not necessarily just being intolerant. The Dabbling Duck has a large heated marquee outside as well as covered heated outdoor seating. Would it not be a good compromise to welcome dogs only to these areas and keep the small inside seating area pet free. Other than that small niggle it was a lovely brunch before a bracing walk in beautiful countryside surrounding Shere.”

Carlo's Trattoria
Shere Rd, Newland's Corner, Albury, Guildford GU4 8SE, UK
Phone: 01483 224180
“We had a very memorable dinner at Carlo’s Trattoria ! Despite booking a table for 22 of us at very short notice , Bonnie and Jay went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing dinner for my family gathering. The service was attentive and impeccable throughout the whole evening and the food truly delicious with very generous portions. We all had the fixed menu with a selection of starters ( the fried calamari are the best I have eaten in a very long time - even my Sicilian auntie thought they were tastier than the ones in Sicily ) followed by the prawns risotto and fresh ravioli with porcini mushroom and sage which were both heavenly! We ended the dinner with an amazing selection of desserts, all beautifully presented. I live in London but I will definitely drive back to Guildford just to eat at Carlo’s again!. Thank you SO MUCH Bonnie and Jay for looking after us and making the evening truly special for me and my family! Hope to see you again soon Barbara Z”

Kinghams Restaurant
Oak Cottage, Gomshall Ln, Shere, Guildford GU5 9HE, UK

“Came during a torrential downpour that flooded part of the premises. The evening was thus slightly slower on the kitchen side of things which was understandable. Heck, if a Masterchef challenge was "Can you still cook to the required standard after you deal with a flood," at least we know it's doable! There are certainly aspects that hold this establishment back from michelin-star territory, but the friendly service isn't one of them. Even after having to muck in and deal with the flooding, it was still warm, friendly and helpful. The mark deducted for atmosphere was just that- it is a tad stuffy/warm in the main dining area that made it uncomfortable to the point we asked to move to the converted area just outside (which wasn't an issue at all) Judged against the midweek treat prices, it's pretty good value for this type of dining. That said, I'm not sure I would come back for the full price menu- reference made to the lamb which, although delicious and faultless, as nevertheless just a single sausages worth of meat. We will be back - hopefully with better weather!”

“I visited this pub/restaurant for a solo business meal. The staff were some of the friendliest, most welcoming restaurant staff I have ever encountered. The lady who I assumed was the manager treated me like a member of her family and could not do enough for me! Grace, who was waiting on my table was very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing. They said I would be back and they were right - I’ll definitely be going back here. The atmosphere was so cosy and welcoming!”

The Wotton Hatch
Guildford Rd, Wotton, Dorking RH5 6QQ, UK
Phone: 01306 887694
“What a fantastic country pub! I have been here a couple of times now and the food, service and atmosphere is really great. The Sunday roasts are good, we made sure we booked a table though as it gets busy. Inside there are many restaurant tables and a cosy bar area with a fireplace. The toilets were clean. There is also outdoor seating for the summer months, plus free parking available at the back. The staff are very friendly and polite, and the service is good. If you're looking for traditional pub food I would highly recommend The Wotton Hatch. If I lived more local I would be eating here every weekend!”

“Beautiful traditional pub in Gomshall, always pretty with a beautiful display of flowers and the added bonus of the river flowing through. We had the sharing fish platter that was very reasonably priced and very filling. We are going to try the ploughman’s platter next time.”
