The Best Restaurants in Lowton, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom (2025)

I was looking for somewhere to take my neighbour for a birthday meal, and when he suggested we try the Newton Grill (not having checked the reviews first) I must admit I honestly thought, oh gosh. Thankfully, we were both pleasantly surprised and very pleased. We were professionally greeted by the young waitress (Izzy) who asked us if we had parked up in the car park, as we'd need to check in to allow us a 2 hour free parking. I'd give her extra marks for pointing this out as not many places do. The food was most certainly all very fresh and cooked to a very high standard, and came with a very flavoursome salad. The portions were very generous in size and nicely presented. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures of our meals as it looked so good that we just got stuck in. I was reluctant to order the steak as I have always been served steak over cooked and tough. After reading the menu, I thought I'd give them the benefit of doubt and try it. It was cooked to perfection, very succulent and a good size. My neighbour had the salt and pepper chicken from the curly wurly selection and he too thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall the experience was great, welcoming and Izzy was very professional, hence the 5* review. Very well deserved.

Absolutely loved the restaurant. The lady working was very nice. The food was delicious. Had a full English breakfast, a bacon barmcake and a stake with avocado and poached egg. Will eat there again. Thank you

Good home cooked food at very reasonable prices, friendly staff and a classic pub layout and decor. I must have eaten here 20 times and never been disappointed. I bring friends and family to visit the Nevison whenever I'm in the area. Lovely big beer garden too when the weather's nice. Definitely one of my absolute favourite pubs and I've been to a few.

29th JANUARY 2025. ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Hubster Neil and I to an absolute diamond of a hidden gem….. ‘The Nevison Country Inn’ which is in Leigh, it’s an old untouched Country pub, not many of them left and it like a pub should be, locals stood at the bar and very welcoming.….. I was a little dubious at first looking on their website because of the low prices, in comparison to other pubs and restaurants that we have visited previously….. I was TOTALLY wrong…. The food was out of this World, EVERYTHING served in this little Gem is all homemade and you can really tell the difference, they were the best ‘proper’ chips we’ve ever had and they tasted exactly like my Nanna Smyth used to make….. I’ve found the next best to her chips and that’s saying something🥰. We went straight to entrées; We both had the same: ‘Brown Cow Pie’, with proper chips, the veg was cabbage and sliced carrots, both cooked perfectly al dente. The Pie was packed with thick chunks of braised steak, it fell apart, so lean, no fat at all and it literally melted in your mouth, covered in thick rich gravy and covered with a beautiful short crust pastry top….the plates were full of generous portions. We had a bucket of salt and pepper proper chips to share, along with Pepsi Max to wash it down. The two young Ladies serving us, Milan and Sienna were professional, had impeccable manners, they were rushed off their feet as it was lunchtime but always had a smile, they definitely know their jobs and do it very well. Behind the scenes is a very big thank you to the chefs….. your food is amazing, no room for improvement as it’s already perfect. We have found this hidden gem and will be back very soon, I would strongly recommend you book a table beforehand as the place was full within 10 minutes of us being seated…. It’s up there in our top 5…. So! would we go back?? Without a doubt YES, YES…

Don't go in here nearly as much as we should. We're local, but not born in Leigh so sometimes it feels awkward in certain places, but not here! People are so friendly! Great atmosphere, we have a very big dog and she was welcomed in too by the staff and customers. Really enjoyed our drinks. Hope to see you all soon 😊

First visit and won't be the last. Came for lunch with a friend and the food was delicious and the service was great. Both ladies really helpful and friendly. Plus bonus I found out parts are dog friendly so will definitely be back with them as well.

This place may have the best pub food in Newton-Le-Willows. To be honest its better than either of the italians as well. The chef deserves some praise. I went today, family of 5, 2 courses, all lovely and loads fo drinks for £121. I dont think you can complain. The staff are seriously nice, so friendly and hardworking. Its an awesome place

Came to The Kirkfield for the first time yesterday for a family meal and enjoyed delicious food in a very friendly, pleasant atmosphere. I particularly wanted to highlight how good the service was from the serving staff. They were very efficient, polite and friendly and never lost their smiles throughout a very busy, hectic service which we very much appreciated. The live music was great too. We'll definitely be back!

Great pub and restaurant, nit stated in hotel but would imagine just as good as the other services they offer. Good range of ales and beers, food was amazing, worth waiting for the freshly cooked variety the Sunday roast looked mouthwatering. Definitely will return.

Was treated to this place by a friend. Really impressed with this hidden gem! First of all, it’s free parking and really easy to find. Staff were really friendly when we arrived and the decor is lush! Flower walls and lights. The place is super clean too I ordered the Slow Cooked Beef as a Sunday Roast and genuinely hands down the GREATEST Sunday Road I’ve ever had whilst eating out. Came with carrots and beans, mash and roast potatoes and a big Yorkshire pudding. Really impressed

BEST restaurant in Culcheth and surrounding areas!!! Me and a friend went here tonight for a catch up and were served really quickly. We had a cheesy garlic bread for our starter and it was amazing and so flavourful. For our mains we had the Rigatoni Agnello and the Linguine Granchio. Both were equally had very high flavour profiles and were cooked perfectly. For desert we shared the special Pistachio Eton mess and that was equally gorgeous. The staff were very professional and polite throughout the time we were there. I will always return. Thanks for the great night!

First time dining at ll Cortile and it didn't disappoint. Everything from the food, to the atmosphere, service and overall offering was excellent. I have a severe Peanut allergy and would like to personally thank the manager for being extremely understanding and helpful in ensuring I knew what I could and couldn't eat. I'm so sorry, I forgot to ask your name however will absolutely be coming back based solely on this and the warm welcome given. It makes a big difference knowing you are being catered for and can enjoy the evening without worry. Thanks!

We came Christmas Eve for our family meal. Our server was kae and he was fabulous! Very polite, knowledgeable and efficient throughout our meal. He couldn’t do enough for us. The food & service is always top notch and Miller & Carter at Lowton will forever be our favourite for a special family get together

I’d never been here before but a pal suggested it was a good place to meet for breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict and he had the English breakfast. Both were lovely. We were made most welcome by the lady who served us and she made no attempt to bother us or hurry us. We are 2 old pals who hadn’t seen each other for years having a good catch up. I’m sure we’ll go back.

Amazing pub highly recommend! The staff were so welcoming, kind and accommodating and worked their hardest to give amazing service going above and beyond. The food was really tasty with great portion sizes. Lovely atmosphere and great that it's dog friendly both inside and out. So worth a visit. Thank you

This is a little hidden gem of a pub in the countryside not far from the M6 J22. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. The food is just amazing and cooked to order we had the breakfast which was absolutely delicious. We regularly walk there with our dog.

Called in here for a breakfast - absolutely gorgeous - freshly cooked. We ordered the small and just about finished it. Really think it's such good value for money. Will definately be back

Nice, varied menu. Good value. Staff come straight to your table to take a drinks order and then you can order food at bar. Only need to pay when you leave, which makes a nice change. Can’t fault the food and portion sizes.

Service was amazing, the waitress did amazing serving such a busy restaurant area by herself, extremely polite and helpful and couldn’t have done enough for us. Only thing I’d say about the food is to state how well done you want your steak as ours came rare, but the food was spot on. Prices are fair as the food is fresh and really nice and there’s something for all budgets

Tasty, wholesome meals, Typsy Lamb a favourite and the Sunday dinners are great value with option of upto 3 courses, which are a cracking deal. Eat in the general pub area or book in advance in the restaurant. But lovely food and fantastic varied menu x

We had the best mixed grill and steak burger in a while. Lovely staff. Update: we've been back several times, sampling the burger again, chilli, pepper chicken and the sea food salad, which were amazing too

Amazing food at a very reasonable price for the sunday service. 1 course £13, 2 courses £16, 3 courses £19 plus kids eat for £2. a great chilled atmosphere and lovely waitresses. 👌

I arrived at the Horseshoe Inn after struggling to find a nearby lunchtime venue with an attractive variety of food on the menu. Here I found the true Lord of the Pies and am now a devotee! This first time I dined on his award winning Braised Beef masterpiece with Truffle and Parmesan mash and will definitely return to taste more and more. There’s also plentiful choice for vegetarian diners.

Not local to the area and randomly chose this restaurant to eat & with no pre conception I can easily say this is probably the nicest inadian restaurant I have eaten in. Nice atmosphere, friendly & helpful staff. Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. If I am ever in the area again I won't hesitate to book there again.

We booked for a large group with not a lot of notice yet the staff were brilliant. We were working in the area and wanted to celebrate a colleague so 20 of us descended on the restaurant and service was fantastic. Drinks were flowing, food came out in good time and they were constantly checking we had everything. A real gem.

Working out of town, fancied a curry. Sooooo lucky, this was the nearest to my digs. Has the 4 course meal ( only managed 3 courses) and everything was stunning, meat all tender, sauces full of flavour but still taste the meat a vegetables. I will definitely return and highly recommend it for quality and price.
