Had a meal here tonight. One of the best tasting meals I have had out in a long long time. Presentation was on point, as was the list of local ingredients. Opted for the mushroom starter and pork belly main. It was exciting just tasting it all. Atmosphere is brilliant. We will definately be going again. Brilliant šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

We booked a table at the Wimborne Pig for our wedding anniversary and had an absolutely wonderful experience! We came with our 11-month old baby and the staff were absolutely brilliant and very helpful around her. The food was superb! The most delicious pork belly I've ever had- cooked to perfection, full of flavour and garnished with blueberry sauce. My husband had the beef burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. We both have allergies and I'm currently on a very restrictive gluten, dairy and egg free one. This wasn't an issue at all- the meal was adapted to cater for it. Overall a five star experience and a must try when in Wimborne!

Wow! Was not expecting that. Blown away by the food, the ambiance was nice and the staff were attentive and considerate. 100% recommend! I had the wild mushrooms starter, belly pork and cheesecake. The potato terrine was to die for. This was our first time and we will be back regularly! Thank you.

Nine of us went to the Pig for a family pre Christmas lunch yesterday (Saturday). We had pre-ordered which made things so much easier and slick; and every dish which was produced was absolutely delicious. The starters were generousā€¦.I had the brisket of beef; so, so good! Mr Husband had the trout which was carpaccio with wasabi and in a beetroot kvass. My son in law had fried Brie along with several others and those babies were melt in the mouth yum. Main courses; the belly pork was to die for. Most of us had that one! Duck was also excellent. And whilst I donā€™t always have pudding, the special was a Christmas themed bread pudding and it was fabulous. Again; a very generous portion; with a lovely crunch to the outside and buttery and sweet on the inside. All the other desserts looked equally wonderful. The staff were charming and so tolerant of all the demands of a big group of (mostly older!) people. Especially Jamie. Thank you Wimborne Pig! We will be back for sure.

The pubs staff were friendly and funny, not just robots and also not too cheeky it becomes weird. The portions were the size youd give yourself at a buffet. The price was fine. And the menu had a decent selection. I had the pie and it almost had more stake than my girlfriends ribeye. Highly recommend.

A Dorset gem. I've only ever had the Sunday Carvery here because it's fantastic value (Ā£14.50) and absolutely delicious. I always end up asking for a box so there is bubble and squeak to go home with! The staff are great and friendly. I'd say this is a proper pub and Sunday lunch experience! Booking very much recommended they are popular.

We went there yesterday as a group of 15 and they were absolutely brilliant. We had the skittle alley to ourselves so the kids could play with the selection of toys in there which worked perfectly. We had a variety of meals across the table and everyone said how delicious it was. The pork belly bites as a starter were a definite stand out. Thank you to all the lovely team who served us.

I have driven past this pub on more occasions than I could probably mention and always said must try that one. Well today was the day and so pleased that I did! I can honestly say this was one of the best (if not the best) pub food I have ever had. Our table of four all had different dishes and every single one was outstanding quality with a generous portion. Personally I opted for the ploughman's asking for it without the meat element which wasn't a problem at all. An excellent selection, fresh and tasty. I would highly recommend booking, even for lunch, as it was busy, and it's really not surprising why. The service was friendly and a good pub atmosphere made it a great experience and all at a fair price too. This will most definitely not be the last visit to this highly recommended Dorset pub. If you haven't been then add it to your 'must visit' list, but don't leave it as long as I did.

This is easily becoming my favourite cafe in Weymouth. The location is great, just moments from the harbour side in the bustling brewers quay area. They have a sizeable outside seating area for those dry days and a cosy dining area inside. The staff are wonderfully accommodating and lovely with our children, they are always offered colouring books and numerous high chairs are available. Now the food...it is lovely. It is all vegetarian or vegan, but even as a meat lover I always find something to eat. A personal favourite is the poutine, fries with melted cheese covered in the most delicious mushroom gravy - it is gorgeous! The extensive waffle menu is a firm hit with all ages, with choices to suit all. From waffles doused in chocolate to lovely fruit toppings. If you are in the area, I would wholeheartedly suggest you pop by for lunch.

If you are looking for a change from the usual humdrum Prem Inn Travelodge that seem to be taking over most town centres then this exquisette steeped in history creaky floored no room the same Hotel is for you. Refurbished to an excellent standard whilst retaining the period features. Staff were very friendly and helpful from the 2 receptionists we met to the lady running the restaurant to the bar person to the excellent chef we really couldn't fault it. Our evening meal in the restaurant was delicious and breakfast the next morning cooked to order much nicer than buffet style hot foods from above mentioned hotels. Thank you to all the staff we met who couldn't do enough for us and really topped off an excellent stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Kings Arms, we had an issue with a light fitting in our room which was dealt with very efficiently. Breakfast was delicious and there was lots of good quality food to choose from ! We also hired the Casterbridge room for a family wake, delicious food & a great space with history attached to the space. Would thoroughly recommend.

Charming hotel at a great location, spotless, cosy rooms, excellent customer service and convenient free parking. We stayed 2 nights to celebrate my husbandā€™s 40th and it was perfect. This place is remarkable. I honestly feel like I have to leave a review because I had a private room booking for party of 7 (engagement celebration). The team took care of us extremely well and I want to give special honour to our hostess Verity, so sweet, so patient, clear in her communication- 5 stars for her. The food was gorgeous and pretty affordable in my opinion . Some portions were small but I understand that it is more on fine dining side. The only critique I would give is about some cleaning aspects in which the rooms had like old cobwebs, spider webs on the windows, just could use a deep clean.

Such a beautiful property and the gardens were stunning, even in October. Highly recommend a visit here. I didn't visit the cafe but I did buy some local foods from the shop; there's a nice little selection.

Recently visited this tudor house and gardens. The weather had not been in our favour but had stopped raining for our visit so we walked the gardens first before entering the house. A little overcast but the gardens were still beautiful for our walk round. The house is very picturess and in very good order. You can wander around at your own leisure with loads of interesting things to read and see. It was quite nice as their wernt loads of visitors at one time so you didn't feel rushed. All staff were extremely friendly and polite. The lady on reception was very polite and also we were given a warm welcome in the restaurant where we had some delightful sandwiches and perfectly made lattes. A very intresting place to stop with the added great customer service. Thankyou all.

The Martyrs Inn

49 Main Rd, Tolpuddle, Dorchester DT2 7ES, UK | Pub
P: 01305 602115

Rating: 4.5 (347) Price Level:

The history of this village is fascinating. In 1833, a group of six farm workers from the Dorset village of Tolpuddle were concerned that their wages had been cut, so they formed a trade union to ask for guarantees that their wages wouldnā€™t be cut any further. Other farm workers wanted to join their trade union, and potential members were asked to swear an oath and pay a fee to join and do the trade union was born although not without controversy. Inside the pub an information board pays homage to the six workers and the endeavours. I visited with my son and I had a ā€˜light biteā€™ fish and chips and he had a burger with all the trimmings. The location, food and service were all fabulous and well worth a visit either on your way or returning from nearby Athelhampton House. Highly recommended!

Rating: 4.6 (203) Price Level:

Very fresh selection of seafood. Generous portions too. Had the white bait, the cod fish and chips as well as the mussels. Very impressed by the freshness and quality. Batter for the cod is very light and crisp. The cod was delicious and had the right texture, and ratio of cod:batter. The black mussels were very sweet and I enjoyed it very much when paired with fresh bread. Service was very organised. All in all a great experience and Iā€™d definitely bring my friends here when we drive down to the south coast again.

It was amazing. The dinner was really yummy. Huge portion, we had the steal & ale pie with chips and veggies. The meat was sooo tender, juicy and full of flavour. We stayed for one night in the little rooms they have in their fields. Very cozy and cute. Clean toilets and the shower was working really well. A nice warm bath after a hike to the beach. Breakfast was included, a nice english breakfast. I loved the sausages, very flavourfull. We had some tea or a coffee plus the Orange juice. I asked the staff if we could feed the pigs some apples that were in the floor and she said yes, very cute piggies! The staff is very kind and helpfull.

We ordered starters (pork & garlic meatballs, a garlic bombe & garlic bread) they were really tasty! Especially the bombe who knew honey could go so well with a giant garlic dough ball! For mains, we ordered a rustica sticky pig, calzone carne piccante, crispy prosciutto carbonara & a children's spaghetti bolognase. The mains were absolutely delicious, although the children's spaghetti bolognase was tasteless, which was a shame as I had high hopes. Overall, we had a really good time and came away feeling full although I was surprised that you can't use Veteran's discount on a Friday or a Saturday, I think that is quite insulting considering they accept Tesco's vouchers all day everyday!!
