White Horse

The St, Hascombe, Godalming GU8 4JA, UK | Pub
P: 01483 208258

Rating: 4.5 (642) Price Level:

Christmas lunch at the White Horse Hascombe was great! Food was lovely and the service was great. We made the mistake of not preordering wine when we confirmed our menu choices and then discovered that there was quite a limited choice on the day. But we found something and it didn’t detract from our enjoyment. Well done to all at the White Horse.

We had our Christmas 2024 lunch here at The White Horse and the whole event was superb! The atmosphere inside the pub was very Christmassy and everyone was very chilled. The food was excellent, really, really first class and the service was wonderful. What more can I say? We all had a fantastic time and this was our second Christmas-time running so that must say a lot about how good the place is.

Loved it at The White Horse again. Been coming here for 4 years but it went through a period in about 2023 where the food was not that great. But I’m happy to report that the food was excellent, and the service was superb too: attentive and proactive. Thank you Antonia for a lovely evening!

My first visit to the White Horse but it will not be my last. It was a Tuesday lunchtime when I happened upon this pub. It looked welcoming from the outside and had a car park directly opposite (and another around the back apparently). I parked up and went inside. The pub was busy but not rammed so I took a stool and sat at the bar whilst I mulled over the good selection of ales and beers. It's a Youngs pub so I went for a pint of their 3.7% London Original which is a very quaffable session beer that slipped down a treat whilst I awaited the food I had ordered. I didn't have a long wait till it arrived and it was delicious. I look forward to trying something else on the menu. I went for open BLT sandwich which usually comes with fries (but I didn't want them on this occasion). Service came with a smile and I was made to feel very welcome. I shall be returning and have no hesitation it recommending it to others.

Enjoyed a wonderful two-night break at The Crown, staying in The King's Suite and having one lunch, one dinner and two breakfasts! A great place to chill out, especially by the open fire in winter, which was kept well fuelled throughout the day. Every morsel was delicious, from the snacks (veggie haggis bites recommended) to the evening mains. We plumped for rump of lamb and slow-cooked pork belly, but on evidence of this and their famous breakfasts, you can't go wrong with anything on any menu. Add to this a well stocked bar and sensibly-sized wine list catering for all tastes and wallets and you've got the ideal bolt-hole to wind away the winter hours. Unless of course you want to embark on one of the many great walks in the area. We did a 7.5km loop of the Devil's Punchbowl, a 15 min cross-country drive away, and earned our evening dinner! Saving the final comment for the wonderful service throughout. Reception, bar and waiting teams all warm, friendly, accomodating and patient in dealing with our every request. Including ensuring our favourite fireside table was always reserved, whether we asked for it or not!

Amazing pub in the heart of Chiddingfold, with so much character. The food is very good and there is usually great service. It's pretty pricey here but maybe that is to be expected. Would definitely recommend a trip when you're next in Chidd.

Acorn Restaurant

10-14 Wharf St, Godalming GU7 1NN, UK | Mediterranean Restaurant
P: 01483 427273

Rating: 4.7 (274) Price Level:

First time at Acorn Restaurant, and I wish we could have attend it much sooner! Exceptional food and service. Instead of having a regular practice of starting off the dinner with the starters and the main, we were advised to have a “flight” with the selections of starters. Indeed a valuable advise, and our experience was more than delightful. High quality food, and very reasonably priced for the quality of food that exceeds many respectable businesses in London. We will be coming back to explore the rest of the menu, and will be excited for every upcoming specials. Thank you!

I understand that it’s Spanish fusion but I wished they didn’t put too much of chorizo flavour as my choice of the menu were v limited. I don’t eat pork. So I had gambas for starter and the hot seafood as a main. It was too much of almost the same thing except of course the main was a bigger portion with lobster and fish in it. The staff serving us were friendly and polite. Cosy deco.

My personal experience of Acorn was fantastic. Went for the catalan bread to start/share which was unusual and interesting... Best described as a cross between a foccacia and a pizza. Main was the sharing hot seafood platter. This wasn't what I had in mind when I think platter. It's more a collection of seafood within a seafood bisque. Naming preconceptions aside it was DELICIOUS. perfectly cooked lobster scallops, monkfish and prawns in a rich seafood bisque bursting with flavour and rich intensity. It was outstanding. Desserts were a catalan version of pain perdu which was very pleasant. The tarte tatin was the better dessert for us though.. Bitter, sticky caramel balanced by the sweet apple heavy top. Served with a tangy and sweet whipped yoghurt. Service was very friendly and efficient. Chef likes talking to the customers which adds a very personal touch. Ambience slightly lacking but less to do with gwthw overall decor and lighting which was nice enough.. But more to do with the fact it was a midweek dinner and the restaurant was relatively empty. Although in my opinion it shouldn't be.. We had a terrific experience and will definitely come back again to try other dishes.

Coming to this restaurant was a brilliant experience and now this place is our favourite place to go to for a steak in the area. All the food that we ordered was brilliant, but the highlight of our meal was a tomahawk - perfect cut of meat cooked exactly as we liked it. The staff was very friendly and nice and had great recommendations for the wine, and the chef came out to greet us and chat to us throughout the meal which was an extra bonus The place itself is very cozy and cute and it’s easy to find parking

An absolute gem of a restaurant, the food was top notch, super fresh and really varied but with a lovely Spanish flavour running throughout. The seafood options were excellent and I’d highly recommend it for that alone. Not cheap but fairly priced in my opinion for the quality you get. Service was relaxed but attentive and recommendations were readily given, clearly there are a lot of regulars too which is no surprise!

Went for New Years Eve and it was great. The food is amazing and so well priced. They called early in the day as we were arriving later in the evening so we could preorder. £75 for mains, starters, sides and a couple of drinks each. Also did their Sunday roast recently and again food was fantastic. Highly recommend.

We have tried almost ever pub/restaurant in the area now. The Charterhouse is 100% the best choice for steak! Every time it has been perfect. 👌 The landlord is a legend, the chef is very good and always a friendly welcome/atmosphere (the pub dog is also very funny!). Thank you for all the great meals!

We have been for a Sunday roast here for the past 3 weeks and brought friends and family along with us, all agree it's the best pub roast they have had in a long time. The selection of veg is great, delicious meat and plenty of gravy. Our dog Molly loves it there too and enjoys her little doggy bag at the end. Friendly, attentive staff and very reasonably priced. The place has a great, friendly, local pub vibe! Shhh don't tell anyone!

A fantastic new addition to the area, great staff, fabulous food and good beer. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed not only by the staff, but the pub itself is inviting, light and well set out, it felt large and cosy at the same time. The menu wasn’t massive which is sometimes a positive, and this was definitely one of those occasions, because the items they did have on the menu were done really well. (I must caveat the photos are taken after a few pieces of squid and wings were taken, so the portion sizes look smaller than they were) We had the Korean bbq wings and the Squid to the start. The wings had a good kick to them and the squid came with a lovely chilli jam. For mains 3 of us had Meat burgers and 1 of us had the Veggie burger, none of us were dissatisfied or disappointed. The meat was good well, and the burger was juicy with a nice portion of crispy chips. All in all it was a great pub meal and not to pricey either. The beer selection was good something for everyone, I had my go to Neck oil. We were all really impressed and will definitely be back again soon. This is the first time we’ve been here over the years we’ve lived in the area. I think since we have lived here it’s changed hands 3 times, the last owners made it a bikers pub, we always wanted to go in, but the sign saying bikers only did put us off a little. They soon took that sign down and opened it to the public.

Driven past loads of times but never been in before. Pleasantly surprised. It is deceiving big inside with a separate restaurant and bar area. A beautiful garden with pod like structures which must be lovely to use in the summer. It a cold February day so we cozy up in the bar area. Lots of little areas with comfy chairs for just drinks or tables and chairs carefully placed in windows and not too close to other tables. We chose to eat in the bar, the only downside was you had to order yourself at the bar. The bar area was lovely and quiet with a fire roaring in the hearth. A lovely bubbly older lady saw to us and settled us at a window table. She really did add to the ambiance of the place. The service, price and food was really good. We opted for the two course lunch menu and it was really tasty, hot and well presented. In hindsight we chose the bar area to dine and we were pleased with our choice. When we left the restaurant was incredibly busy and the noise levels were certainly higher than the tranquility of our table in the bar. Would we come again? Most definitely.

Lovely pub-restaurant for meeting up with friends and family. Appealing menu. Great atmosphere and although the place was completely full with big parties, food and drinks were served promptly. We had an issue with one of the dishes which was resolved well. Cosy in winter and outside space for summer days. Some areas could do with a lick of paint (doors to loos)

I stopped here for a romantic meal with my partner. The atmosphere was fantastic - Traditional pub meets unpretentious luxury. The location was stunning, we ate on the bank of the river with the gentle sound of flowing water in the background. The service was prompt, friendly and competent. BUT THE FOOD!.. was truly excellent! We shared the 22oz steak and I can honestly say it was one of the best steaks either of us had ever had. Warm hut with cover seating available, with complimentary blankets and above heaters for chilly nights, small bar inside with all the favourite and popular spirits and some exclusive brands unseen anywhere else. Rating: 4.3 (573) Price Level:

Stopped en route to London for a quick meal and had the most fantastic experience at this pub. We were greeted by Dave who couldn't have done more to make our two children feel more welcome. The children's menu was the best they have ever seen, and high praise from our youngest who said it was the best beef burger she has ever had. As well as the usual kids meals they offer much more variety like ribs or steak, all for £10 inc dessert. Outside is a huge play park. Location is perfect if your passing, less than a minute detour from the A3. Highly recommend this pub, and I would suggest to the management that Dave should have a pay rise!

I absolutely loved it. The room was amazing (suite with two floors by the garden.). The decor is spectacular, done with such charm and character. I had the hot breakfast every day and each one was delicious with very good coffee. I had lunch there twice as well (burger and roast chicken) and both were perfectly done. In the evening in the pub I enjoyed a lovely atmosphere with very friendly and accommodating staff. One evening on the back patio under the heated lamps talking to the locals that was really special. It’s obvious the place is run with great care and love. I had the opportunity to meet the owners, such friendly and accommodating people. I honestly have not one single negative thing to say, only praise. I highly recommend a stay here if you can. And I want to say thank you to all the staff as well.
