Beautiful lunch with my neighbour at Positano. I’ve wanted to come here hit a long time but it was always fully booked. Today we had a great lunch, great service, and great atmosphere. Food was delicious and the best tiramisù I’ve had in a long time. Brilliant, I’ll take other friends here too.

This was our first visit to the area so we asked a shop assistant if she could recommend a nice place for a birthday lunch. Without hesitation she recommended Positano. We were so glad she did. Everything was just brilliant from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious (we had the fried chicken in a white wine mushroom sauce and the salmon with spinach and crushed potatoes😋), the staff were very friendly and attentive throughout all in a lovely relaxing atmosphere too. Thank you for my birthday candle in my dessert it was a lovely thoughtful touch and most certainly the icing on the cake after a wonderful lunch! 😃🥰🎂

Fantastic meal at Positano last night. Superb attentive service whilst not being intrusive. Not been here for several years, as previous experience was not what we expected. However so glad we tried them again and it won’t be the last time. Garlic bread was delicious - so good we forgot to take a photo. I had the risotto and can easily say it was the best I have tasted. My husband had the fish special was equally delicious. The suggested wine pairing was perfect. The puddings rounded off a great night. So give Positano a try and we’ll probably see you there as we are definitely coming back.

The Crown Inn

The Grn, Chiddingfold, Godalming GU8 4TX, UK | Hotel
P: 01428 682255

Rating: 4.5 (650) Price Level:

Enjoyed a wonderful two-night break at The Crown, staying in The King's Suite and having one lunch, one dinner and two breakfasts! A great place to chill out, especially by the open fire in winter, which was kept well fuelled throughout the day. Every morsel was delicious, from the snacks (veggie haggis bites recommended) to the evening mains. We plumped for rump of lamb and slow-cooked pork belly, but on evidence of this and their famous breakfasts, you can't go wrong with anything on any menu. Add to this a well stocked bar and sensibly-sized wine list catering for all tastes and wallets and you've got the ideal bolt-hole to wind away the winter hours. Unless of course you want to embark on one of the many great walks in the area. We did a 7.5km loop of the Devil's Punchbowl, a 15 min cross-country drive away, and earned our evening dinner! Saving the final comment for the wonderful service throughout. Reception, bar and waiting teams all warm, friendly, accomodating and patient in dealing with our every request. Including ensuring our favourite fireside table was always reserved, whether we asked for it or not!

Brilliant place with a fantastic view and a playground for little ones. Service is fantastic very attentive. Food was beautiful, I've order chicken nuggets for my daughter for £7.50, portion was huge, and the actual nuggets were large pieces od breaded chicken breast with cheddar inside. All portions were large and super tasty, they're using local produce from Secretts farm. Just beautiful. Great experience all throughout.

Always a nice welcome and friendly staff and this lovely community-run local pub. In the summer we have enjoyed eating in the garden with its far reaching views. We have eaten here a few times and until now always had good food. But on this occasion the food was poor. The pie was swimming in gravy that lacked any flavour, it would also have been nicer to serve the gravy separately. Sadly the food was cold and had to be returned to the kitchen, the pub was not busy and it really seemed a shame that they missed the mark on this occassion. We also noted that the menu was not as interesting as it had been earlier in the year. I am hoping this was a 'blip' and that normal service will resume. We will give it another go sometime soon.

Acorn Restaurant

10-14 Wharf St, Godalming GU7 1NN, UK | Mediterranean Restaurant
P: 01483 427273

Rating: 4.7 (274) Price Level:

An absolute gem of a restaurant, the food was top notch, super fresh and really varied but with a lovely Spanish flavour running throughout. The seafood options were excellent and I’d highly recommend it for that alone. Not cheap but fairly priced in my opinion for the quality you get. Service was relaxed but attentive and recommendations were readily given, clearly there are a lot of regulars too which is no surprise!

Coming to this restaurant was a brilliant experience and now this place is our favourite place to go to for a steak in the area. All the food that we ordered was brilliant, but the highlight of our meal was a tomahawk - perfect cut of meat cooked exactly as we liked it. The staff was very friendly and nice and had great recommendations for the wine, and the chef came out to greet us and chat to us throughout the meal which was an extra bonus The place itself is very cozy and cute and it’s easy to find parking

First time at Acorn Restaurant, and I wish we could have attend it much sooner! Exceptional food and service. Instead of having a regular practice of starting off the dinner with the starters and the main, we were advised to have a “flight” with the selections of starters. Indeed a valuable advise, and our experience was more than delightful. High quality food, and very reasonably priced for the quality of food that exceeds many respectable businesses in London. We will be coming back to explore the rest of the menu, and will be excited for every upcoming specials. Thank you!

I understand that it’s Spanish fusion but I wished they didn’t put too much of chorizo flavour as my choice of the menu were v limited. I don’t eat pork. So I had gambas for starter and the hot seafood as a main. It was too much of almost the same thing except of course the main was a bigger portion with lobster and fish in it. The staff serving us were friendly and polite. Cosy deco.

My personal experience of Acorn was fantastic. Went for the catalan bread to start/share which was unusual and interesting... Best described as a cross between a foccacia and a pizza. Main was the sharing hot seafood platter. This wasn't what I had in mind when I think platter. It's more a collection of seafood within a seafood bisque. Naming preconceptions aside it was DELICIOUS. perfectly cooked lobster scallops, monkfish and prawns in a rich seafood bisque bursting with flavour and rich intensity. It was outstanding. Desserts were a catalan version of pain perdu which was very pleasant. The tarte tatin was the better dessert for us though.. Bitter, sticky caramel balanced by the sweet apple heavy top. Served with a tangy and sweet whipped yoghurt. Service was very friendly and efficient. Chef likes talking to the customers which adds a very personal touch. Ambience slightly lacking but less to do with gwthw overall decor and lighting which was nice enough.. But more to do with the fact it was a midweek dinner and the restaurant was relatively empty. Although in my opinion it shouldn't be.. We had a terrific experience and will definitely come back again to try other dishes.

The Bat & Ball, Hambledon

Rating: 4.5 (1115) Price Level:

We were recommended this pub as a great lunch stop halfway through our South Downs Way walk. We're so glad we visited. This dog friendly pub provides a warm welcome and roaring fires ( we called 30 minutes ahead to secure a table) The menu offered a good selection of pub favourites. We started with some delicious marinated olives. Mains were Fish and Chips with minted, crushed peas and Gnocchi with blue cheese, bacon and pine nuts. Both of which were delicious. We had buffalo milk ice cream for afters- do try the salted caramel flavour. Our server was really welcoming and attentive. The pub itself is a shrine to cricket history and well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

I had prawns (one of the specials) which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Honestly couldn't fault it. Also really nice staff and dog friendly. Our dog can be a bit nervous of other dogs (and there were dogs at almost every table when we went) but the staff made us feel very welcomed and let us choose a good place to sit to suit her, and actually it all was totally fine, which I'm sure probably does have something to do with the nice atmosphere here. I wish we hadn't been so full from our mains because the desserts sounded very tasty. Maybe another time. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area!

We needed a night away and randomly chose Godalming, having seen The Star as a highly rated pub that sold good beer and had a nice menu. We reserved a table thanks goodness as it was packed. A really nice atmosphere and the queues at the bar were no problem as the service was quick. An older blind couple sat next to us and the staff there were lovely with them, sitting and reading the menu to help them choose what they wanted, then returning to see how things were and whether they needed a drink. Such a friendly pub we had a great night. And when we were unsure how many of the sharing plates to order we were told that 2 and a dish of the chips might be enough to start with. It was, glad we didn’t order the 4 dishes that we were going to. Would highly recommend the pub, but book in advance if you want a seat.

Great, middle of nowhere country pub. We visited today after our 6 mile hike. The pub is dog friendly, which was great for us as we had borrowed our friends dog for the day. Dog bowls located inside French doors in patio garden area, with a huge keg outside to fill them. Car park is spacious. Play area. Nice, clean restaurant and toilets. Food was served quickly and was presented beautifully, hot and with a friendly smile. Not overly priced, a lovely atmosphere and made to feel very welcome. We will return.

Booked this lovely pub for our 21st Wedding Anniversary as I have passed it many a time on bike rides with my club and always thought of giving it a try. The pub is in a lovely setting in the Surrey Hills and has a lovely country/gastro pub vibe to it with good parking and spacious garden area with rattan furniture. Inside is very modern and clean, staff are super friendly and attentive, with food coming out in a very timely manner. The menu has lots to choose from with plenty of vegan options so shouldn't be issues with food selection. Drinks are of a good selection with a cocktail menu and are freshly made without pre-made syrups. All in all a great place to celebrate our anniversary and if you're not celebrating anything, a lovely place to eat and drink in the Surrey Hills.
