We went for a mid week lunch on a gloomy November day. Lovely old pub with a log fire and lovely food and service. Food took a little while but think as all done very fresh. A lovely sausages and mash for £15 and attentive and friendly service. Would recommend and will be going again!

I have been staying at the Black Horse a lot in the past few months because it's a brilliant establishment. Firstly the Black Horse Inn is a beautiful pub. It has great food, friendly staff and lovely aesthetics. Secondly, the hotel is unique, always clean and priced fairly. The reception staff are always really friendly and make you feel so welcome. Highly recommend this place if you're staying in the local area or fancy going out somewhere for a nice dinner!

Just had 3 really, really, enjoyable nights at the BHI. Wonderful location, went on two lovely runs in the area directly on to the North Downs Way. Rooms were fine, great bath and shower, plenty of space. Lovely food, dinner and breakfast were great, in a wonderful atmospheric pub. (Amazing mushrooms at breakfast!) Lovely staff across the board , helpful, friendly, welcoming from reception, to the owner, to the cat, to the wait staff - all lovely. My one, single improvement point would be to have fresh coffee for breakfast over instant. Would absolutely come back - thank you for a lovely friendly stay.

We didn’t stay there. But had really great dinner! We have tried Vebison (deer) and meet was really great! The dish in general was amazing! Great amount of food, and it was very delicious! We also tried different drinks, ginger beer was nice. My colleagues got cocktails and beer and we all were happy with the place. Place itself very well decorated!

Stubbs Restaurant

Canterbury Rd, Kennington, Ashford TN25 4DU, UK | Steak House
P: 01233 666111

Rating: 4.7 (803) Price Level:

One of the best places in Ashford to have a nice meal. Portion sizes are generous and food is well cooked. The service is excellent with friendly, helpful staff. One thing I like is that the service charge is not automatically added to your bill. They don't really need to because the staff work hard and so deserve the tip. I had no problem adding it to my final total. Decor is good and makes for a nice atmosphere and relaxing lunch vibe. I will definitely be back.

A fantastic family favourite with excellent food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere, we visit at least once a week! Stubbs is hands down our favourite restaurant, and it's no surprise that we make a point of visiting at least once a week. The combination of excellent food, friendly staff, and a wonderful setting makes it a place we always look forward to returning to. What sets Stubbs apart is the consistently high quality of everything on the menu. Whether you’re looking for fish, lobster, steak, or a burger, every dish is faultless and always cooked to perfection. The cocktails and Guinness are always served exactly as they should be. One of the things we appreciate most is that you can order anything off the menu and know it will always be nice. The staff are another reason we keep coming back. Eva, the main hostess, deserves a special mention for the warm and welcoming impression she gives at the entrance. She works incredibly hard to ensure that every guest is happy, and her efforts don’t go unnoticed. Lucio, one of the waiters, is always cheerful, professional, and friendly, making every meal even more enjoyable. While Stubbs can get extremely busy even on weekdays, it’s not uncommon to see every table full, along with several large groups of twelve or more people. We’ve dined here both as a couple and as a family, and even though weekends can be noisy and bustling, (my youngest prefers the quieter weekday visits.) However, we are always happy to dine here, no matter the day, as there’s always a great mix of people and families. A standout feature of Stubbs is the absence of any "discretionary" service charge, which we often see added to the bill at some other restaurants. We always try to tip the staff generously because we recognise how hard they work under pressure to ensure everything runs smoothly in such a busy environment but it's so nice for you to have the choice of your own. When choosing foor our favourites are the starters of brie and toast, and tempura prawns, followed by the steak with peppercorn sauce and the Blues Burger often with a side of lobster. For dessert, we often choose choclate cake or the ice cream with brandy snap basket. We have also tried many cocktails here and the Mojito is one of our favourites. Whenever we've had a challenging week, we head straight to Stubbs for a meal that never fails to lift our spirits and round off the week on a high note. We can’t wait for our next visit!

The Stile Bridge

Staplehurst Rd, Tonbridge TN12 9BH, UK | Pub
P: 01622 831236

Rating: 4.5 (377) Price Level:

What a fantastic find. The food was delicious from starters to dessert. The fillet for mains was particularly good. Bar and waiting staff are really friendly and we even got the chance to meet the chef, who talked us through what he was serving. We had the set meal, which was good value, and a few drinks - there's a lot of local stuff on (we had a local gin and a local ale). I cannot recommend this place highly enough and will definitely be back.

Sometimes, the most unexpected places hold true gems, and this restaurant is a shining example. The food here is simply superb, and it's no surprise that they are featured in the Michelin Guide. Despite the restaurants unassuming exterior, don't let that deter you—the experience is absolutely worth it. The quality of the dishes and the culinary expertise showcased here far surpasses any initial judgments based on appearances. The staff are also very friendly. Don't miss out on this hidden treasure.

2024 October Review NEW AND UPDATED Back again at the Stile Bridge, with the previous chef who departed 6 months ago, it has been time to try the new menu again. At a glance the new menu has inspirations from Asian cuisine slashed with British classics. A very good choice for all palates of flavours. To start, the house bread and oils, the Focaccia style bread was delicious , crispy, fluffy and tasteful, most perfect bread you could ask for to start. The lamb meatballs, had an Indian inspired taste coated in crispy panko, I actually thought the additional aioli style sauce was not needed. Next up was the boneless chicken wings which was a let down, with its dry flavour, baseless and bland texture it felt like the wing was absolutely battered and butchered to create this flattened pancaked wing. Mains : Chicken salad - chicken was super juicy and tasteful, with a salad which isn’t drenched in dressing, the perfect amount for a main dish, with expedited pickles which were fab, and well seasoned dish. Pork sirloin, juicy, cooked well rather tender as welland had great accompaniments with it, the jus was flavourful and hit the spot. Scallops, cooked well, fresh, and plenty of spark. Overall the Stile Bridge did not disappoint again, will be back, and loved the service. Truly so far still one of my top recommendations for restaurants in Kent. Best for those who actually have an eye for food and an open palate. NOT for your typical boring clientele. 2023 Review - A MUST TRY hidden Resturant in the country side of Kent Food Quality 4.7/5 Presentation 4.5/5 Price 4.6/5 Service 4.7/5 Atmosphere / Ambiance 4.2/5 Stilebridge offers an South American fusion with British cuisine, utilising fresh and local ingredients of Kent and East Sussex. It is a show stopper of a restaurant to visit if you are in Kent. compared to other restaurants within Kent, which serves typical British classics and other delicate British style dishes it is good to see a pub serving a different variety of food from around the world, being a Michelin guide recommendation, the Stilebridge is certainly a place that is well worth on the Michelin guide. The food I would describe it as light South American heavily infused with British twist, this is definitely done to please the pallets of local clientele within Kent which are known for having less adventurous pallets, but as an individual who thrives on flavour, exoticNess and wonder, this may also be the place for you as it is especially for me it is. The octopus and pork belly was fragrance, light and packed full of simplistic flavours, which hit each flavour on the tongue perfectly. Had a small cake which enhances the flavour of the dish., I would say the octopus is a touch over done when I had it, but the pork belly was cooked perfectly. The lamb rump was cooked to perfection, after talking to the chef, and knowing that it was a dry aged lamb from Romley Marsh? Very well with the potato jus accompanying it very well with its lights and arrogant flavours. I would have liked more of the sweet potato jus upon my dish, the lentils works. Well I would’ve liked a bit more than those as well. The Korean style, Bimbap works well for local clienteles pallets, however, I would have preferred it a lot more crispy rice at the bottom of the bimbap, after discussing it with the chef, who was very polite and friendly, it was understandable why it was done in such a way. The side dishes of the potato, Bravas and the pickled salad was a very nice for the compliment to my main protein dishes. Overall, the Stilebridge is a great restaurant you should visit, as a reviewer, I never eats anywhere five stars restaurant wise, however, with my own personal recommendation, I recommend a rate Stilebridge very highly and would be back again to try the other menu items. I would love to see more South American dishes because it’s hard to find authentic dishes done right utilising British local projects which I highly enjoy. My compliments to the chef. Thank you

I'd been wanting to visit The Stile Bridge for some time; it was with some excitement that I saw how nearby a restaurant in the Michelin guide was. It did not disappoint. Beautifully cooked meat, with the best chips I've ever tasted - well seasoned throughout, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The pork sirloin was delicious, the beef sirloin moreso. I will be back very eagerly. Lovely service as well, and some nice drinks offerings.

All we're really delicious! The place was also really friendly with really welcoming staff will so brought our dog a border collie and she found it very comfortable in there with her own little water bowl too. We stumbled across this little gem, on our last visit to Kent. The food is amazing. But the customer service is something else. Me and my partner were having dinner with our friend and we had our 8 month old daughter with us. When it came to our food coming out, like clockwork, our daughter decided that she was ready to go to sleep. As my partner tried to quickly to get her asleep our food arrived. The staff came and collected my partners food and kept it hot for her until she was ready to eat it. All of the staff are very welcoming and went above and beyond in helping us to enjoy our food. This is what customer service is really about. Excellent staff who are a credit to their employer.

Gorgeous place with Gorgeous staff!! Visited today another of many visits for my pre B'day dinner, I'm ceoliac so it is such a joy to feel safe to eat especially when they provide the best quality food, thank you for the gluten free roast especially the Yorkshire puds 😍😍!! The staff could not do enough for us today especially as we had to move our table so that we could have our family dog with us for dinner as she is dying, this was no problem at all for the venue and they welcomed us and our dog and couldn't do enough for us. Thanks for making this a great B'day meal for us, we can't wait to come back. 10 out of 10.

One of the best Sunday roast lunches I have eaten, with exemplary service and lovely surroundings. The owners pulled out all the stops for the Valentine weekend and we were greeted with roses, petals and candles on the tables which looked lovely! We ordered the Chicken Wings and Prawn Cocktail for starters, then the Beef and Chicken Roast as mains - all the food was delicious, cooked to perfection and generous. The service from all staff was excellent and it was a nice touch to see in to the kitchen via a huge window. Overall 5/5 and we will return!

Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Set in a lovely location with good walks nearby. Wasn't particularly busy which was perfect to have a good selection of seating and fast service. In my view the food menu isn't particularly inspiring but everything we had was freshly prepared and well cooked. Great for children, particularly because of the ice cream machine and milkshakes.

Anonymous - 5 years ago

Rating: 4 / 5

Set by the beautiful waterways in the quiet town of Loose, there is no better setting for a pub. The Chequers Inn is undoubtedly a proper pub, 17th Century and beaming inside and and out. The pub is centred around the bar area with peripheral seating areas for those wanting to have tired feet or want to enjoy traditional pub food. I like The Chequers Inn style, it doesn’t try hard to meet the needs of check lists and social media review systems. It is a laid back, warm & welcoming atmosphere within which to enjoy well prepared pub grub. The food menu is traditional at its core, but does nod to the flamboyant with its french inspired fish dishes. The presentations the food is excellent overall. I admired my main course, the Salmon Nicoise, for an indeterminable amount of time before devouring it. There is always room to improve things, but the Chequers shouldn’t. It has a refreshing charm that many of the chain pubs lack.

Although we have lived only walking distance from this wonderful establishment, this was the first time we visited... And we weren't disappointed. Mrs and I, and our dog (yes, dogs are allowed but best to let them know in advance) on a Friday evening for "Steak night". The place was busy, but nice busy. Very cosy and warm. The service was excellent, with the landlady being very attentive. The food was lovely and the steak was delicious. However, my favourite was the Scotch Egg started. Proper home made, yolk was beautifully soft. I could have eaten ten! Would definitely visit and recommend this place. Thank you for a lovely evening.

First visit to the Potting Shed, a large indoor restaurant with plenty of seating inside and out in the garden. Plenty of parking too. Waitress was very friendly and efficient. I ordered the pizza Caesar, which came with a smoked salmon, anchovies and rocket topping. I ordered extra anchovies for a small price. I was not disappointed, the pizza was lovely and it was a good size too. My friends both ordered the steak ciabatta but both were disappointed at the amount of cheese which sat on top of the steak. They considered the price a little on the high side. The bill included a 12.5% service charge too. I would definitely visit again to enjoy one of their pizzas. The menu was quite extensive and it was difficult to make a choice.

We ate here last night as the food at our hotel wasn't very good. The parking was great and it waa easy to find We had the best pizza we've had for a long time and the value for money was brilliant. It cost half what we paid at our hotel the night before and the quality of the food and service was far superior at the potting shed. If we're in the area again we will definitely be back.

It was a nice experience. We only went to the restaurant for food and didn't stay in the rooms so cannot comment on those. The staff were friendly and attentive. Service was really quick. The food was presented nicely, tasted good, and portions were a good size. There was a varied menu so you could find something to eat for most dietary requirements. It was a tad on the expensive side in my opinion, which is why the rating is 4/5*. We went for the 5 plates for £32 between 2 of us which was a good amount of food. There was lots of free parking available. Inside the restaurant was clean and rustic. Quite pretty with the decor. There is a nice outside area too. It was busy but not too loud that we couldn't hear what members of our group were saying. There were kids there so I'd say yes it's family-friendly.

One of my closest friends and I chose the visit this pub after both having a rather tough week. On arrival we saw a sign that said a ‘warm welcome was awaiting from Stewart’ and he did not disappoint! His welcome into the pub had that personal touch which made us feel immediately comfortable and happy with our choice to visit. I have been several times over the years but this was my best visit yet. The food was excellent, served quickly on a busy Friday night and tasted excellent from grazing dishes all through to dessert. We were served by Jane who was attentive, friendly and always polite. I had the duck pizza (adding bacon made it even better) and the honeycomb dome for pudding which was delicious. I will definitely visit again and thank all the staff for their excellent service.

The more glamorous of the two pubs in Hollingborne, but not the friendliest. The staff were nice enough but the beer was cloudy. The food was good when we got our mains, but the 'bar nibbles' were underwhelming, neither the whitebait nor the calamari were very nice. The steak and lamb were both very good and well presented. The bill had a service charge added.

Castle View Restaurant at Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle, Broomfield, Maidstone ME17 1PL, UK | Restaurant
P: 01622 767819

Rating: 4.2 (580) Price Level:

Our son decided to treat us to a new restaurant venue for our wedding anniversary. We were delighted he had chosen this establishment. It was a lovely setting, just outside the Leeds Castle grounds in Kent. On this day, it wasn't particularly busy, so we had a reasonably quiet setting with a magnificent view of the castle from the terrace. The service here was exemplary. The staff were very attentive. We were able to choose from the evening menu, and this was bought out in virtually no time at all. My son had the battered fish, my wife, the beefburger, and I the 8oz Ribeye steak. All were very well presented. I have given 4 stars because I wanted a medium cooked steak and received medium rare. Also, the chips I received had quite a few bits of batter in them. This suggests that either they've used the same vat to cook the fish and chips. Or, they stored the chips in the same area/tray as the fish. This did not though spoil the meal. Hats to the pastry chef!! The deserts were absolutely gorgeous. No complaints there. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. The service is impeccable. I would definitely recommend it. You will need to book, as this requires a gated entry at most times of the day.

I went to Castle View Restaurant with my mother for lunch last Tuesday, and we had such a fantastic experience. For Lunch, I had a jacket potato with baked beans, but I asked to not have the side of dressed leaves as I don't like salad dressing at all and the waitress completely understood, which was great. My mother ordered a jacket potato also but with cheese and coleslaw and side salad, and both our dishes arrived at our table in precisely six minutes; I've never been served so fast at any other restaurant before. My jacket potato was really tasty and because I had no side salad, i got extra baked beans! I would like to thank all the waiters and waitresses in the restaurant for being so efficient and serving our food so well with a smile on their faces.

I didn't have to wait for service, the whole team worked well together and everything flowed perfectly. The duck was cooked to perfection and the lemon tart was the best I've tasted in a long while. The ambiance and dining room itself was well laid out. I will be booking to go back again.

Apparently they had a new menu, we had crab pate and the mackerel which were both lovely and amazingly presented, mains we had confit duck which was delicious. Wish there was just a bit of green on the plate but other than that can't moan as it was all cooked perfectly and the flavours were amazing!

We visited Tobi's restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday, the atmosphere is topnotch, the service was great and alot faster. We were four in numbers. We ordered assorted peppersoup, suya, asun, prawns, edikaikong, croaker fish, bitterleaf soup with pounded yam and they tasted nice except that I didn't like the sweet chilli in the prawns. Overall, Tobi is a nice place to have your events, just book your table in advance and probably book your food in advance too. Also, the uncle that served us has good customer service.
