Gorwell Farm

Abbotsbury, Weymouth DT3 4JX, UK | N/A

Rating: 4.9 (122) Price Level:

Gorwell Farm hosted our wedding (and accommodation) and was excellent from beginning to end. It’s. A beautiful, rustic venue but has been fully modernised and updated with all conveniences for a wedding whilst still retaining the rustic feel. All queries were addressed quickly and we couldn’t imagine it being any better.

We chose Gorwell for our wedding in July 2024, booking two years prior. Mary and the Team are fantastic, you can really tell that they want your big day to be a success. Mary was full of recommendations for vendors, which was amazing as it can definitely feel overwhelming. Throughout the communication was fantastic and there was no such thing as a silly question. The Farm and the cottages were fantastic and being able to get married outside under the trees was incredible. Thank you so much Mary & Family! (photos by Charlotte Stoneham Photography)

Gorwell Farm was where we chose to have our wedding this summer, and we could not have chosen a more perfect location for our special day. The cottages are spacious and comfortable for the morning-of preparation, and the barn and surrounding grounds are just idyllic. It really was the perfect space for our wedding. Mary and the team were great in the run-up to the wedding and on the day. It meant we didn't have anything to worry about. Also a shout out to the bar staff who were absolutely fantastic!

We got married at Gorwell Farm on September and we can’t recommend it enough! The most beautiful venue and surroundings, the bar was great and the cottages and campsite were ideal for our guests. We can’t wait to return as guests!

Very interesting day out. The guides were so knowledgeable and helpful. So much to see that I will need to go back to spend more time in the fantastic gardens. Bit of a walk from the car park if your mobility is not great.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable and delicious dining experience at the Clockspire Restaurant this evening. Food was excellent along with the service. The old school building has been beautifully restored and creates a delightful surrounding and atmosphere, complimenting the whole experience. This has just become my favorite restaurant. We shall return.

Oh my! ♥ What a magical experience visiting The Clockspire was. Where do I begin to describe the care and detail oozing from both the staff and the food, it truly is clear to see, even the toilet hand towels were folded beautifully! We decided to opt for an expensive treat due to a special birthday, but the restaurant also offers a very affordable day menu, so I would recommend for both a stunning meal out and for celebrating occasions.

Rudge Farm Cottages

Rudge Farm, Chilcombe, Bridport DT6 4NF, UK | Cottage
P: 07761 447194

Rating: 4.8 (115) Price Level:

We have just returned from our second visit to Rudge Farm and it was even better than last year. We visited lots of local beaches etc whilst staying but enjoyed coming back to Rudge Farm for the afternoons/evenings. There is so much on site to keep all ages happy - pool table, table tennis, soft play, sand pit, table football, tennis court, football pitch, boating lake and not to mention the very friendly goats that you can feed. The cottages are clean and comfortable. It’s so peaceful at night and the comfy beds mean that a good nights sleep is guaranteed. The bathroom in Orchard Cottage could do with updating but it’s functional and was fine for what we needed. It’s clear the owners are working hard to update all areas of the site so I’m sure this will be done. As hosts they were friendly and approachable and we were always made to feel very welcome. We will definitely return to Rudge Farm and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Lovely 4 night get away in the countryside with fantastic views and plenty of space and activities for singles, couples and families with young children to enjoy. Bridport, West Bay and Abbotsbury just a short drive away if you feel the need to explore further.

What a truly special place! Somewhere that will be in my heart forever! My wife and I knew the moment we saw this place it was the place for our wedding. The cottages are stunning, the setting is perfect and everyone there are incredible. And the privacy you feel when you are there as the hosts let you enjoy their/your space is something I've never felt anywhere else. Everyone worked tirelessly to make sure we had the perfect day and place to celebrate our wonderful day. The lake is beautiful, the animals and the abundance of play areas and activities for the children is second to none. From the honesty shop to the beautiful courtyard allowing everybody to just be together is something I will never forget.

We had a fantastic time and was impressed with everything available to do around the site. We have been 3 times before. Our little boy of 17 months also loved everything minute especially the play house and sand pit. The views are amazing what ever the weather. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for an relaxing and enjoyable break away. The goats and sheep was certainly a bonus and enjoyable to watch. The owners was friendly and welcoming and always made time for you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Gardeners Cottage at Rudge Farm at the end of July. The owners, Jason and Danielle and the staff, are extremely friendly and welcoming and will sort out any concerns you may have without any issues. They work tirelessly to keep the farm up the exceptional standard that you see. The setting is idyllic and so peaceful too. There is plenty there to keep everyone entertained from the lovely play area, the lakes including a boating lake and the beautiful nature walks. If you want even more fun there are the tennis court, the games room, a pool room and not forgetting the gorgeous goats and ducklings too. The cottage is well equipped and beautifully dressed, and we loved every minute of our stay there. It was extremely hard to leave at the end of the week. I would highly recommend Rudge Farm to all ages, and we will definitely be going back! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Absolutely love The Lemon Tree! Friends and family have stayed in the beautiful rooms. I’ve personally enjoyed eating here, (alone or with friends), or simply enjoyed stopping for coffee and cake in this wonderful friendly place. I’ve held events here with friends, and the staff are friendly and incredibly accommodating, and always happy to listen to suggestions and feedback. Beautifully decorated in a Mediterranean style which is reflected by the menu. Highly recommend you pay them a visit!

What a beautiful place, friendly staff, delicious cakes and coffee, we were quite disappointed that we had already had lunch as all the food looked superb. Extremely dog friendly too! Located at the end of a primarily single track lane, you'll find this charming pub. If arriving between 2pm and 6pm the owners will give you instruction how to access your room. Starting with the accomodation - the bed was larger than average and exceptionally comfortable. A couple of very tasty homemade biscuits awaited us on the room's serving tray. How lovely! Tea and coffee also in the room, however the milk is kept in the fridge at the bottom of a very short corridor. Disappointingly, one of our folded 'clean' large towels was still dirty, and whilst not affecting us personally it may be worth noting that the shower cubicle is on the smaller side with an older model Mira shower. You'll need to turn the main dial to the left, and the water temperature reaches hot almost instantly. We'd booked an evening meal for 6.30pm, and whilst the dining area was pretty empty at this point within an hour it was full. My meal was heavenly, I cannot praise it enough - a starter of salt & pepper squid on a garlic and lime mayonnaise, a main of sticky beef with rice and an Indonesian-style salad. Absolutely amazing! Breakfast was wonderful too - a small selection of cereals (Weetabix, Alpen or Cornflakes), with the option of pre-prepaired chopped fruits and natural yogurt; followed by a full English. I'd definitely recommend a visit to this pub if you don't mind a drive down a narrow lane -you'll probably not find a more tranquil location.

We went for lunch as a party of 6. We had pre booked because it was the Christmas season. We were greeted by a very friendly member of the team. Shown to our table, allowed to settle, then had our drinks order taken and then shortly after that we had our meal order's taken by another charming team member. We didn't have to wait very long until all of our food was brought to the table. We had a gluten free option, a vegetarian option and 4 meals and starters off the Special menu. Every meal was beautifully cooked and presented. We had a really lovely time and will definitely be returning in the near future.
