The Admiral Hood

Mosterton, Beaminster DT8 3HJ, UK | Pub
P: 01308 868338

Rating: 4.6 (473) Price Level:

We recently had an amazing meal out here. The cosy pub setting was relaxing and pleasant to sit in. A great selection of drinks on tap and bottled as well. The service was very good indeed, polite and friendly, our food was served very (but not too) quickly! Three of the six of us had fish and chips, it was the best I have had for a very long time, with lovely light batter and delicate fish. The chips and onion rings are also proper pub standard, we enjoyed this very much! Our grandparents very much enjoyed the senior citizens options - these were a selection of slightly smaller and cheaper meals, but were still a generous amount of food and great value for money. We highly recommend and would return - an amazing choice of mains, specials, sides, desserts and 'small plates' for any occasion!

Magnificent stay here, twice now. Small inconsistencies with food, but understandable. Hannah, Lee, Trina, Jess, Meg, and Oliver, amazing team, brilliant service, always happy to help. Props to them, words cannot describe how brilliant it was here.

Stayed in room 5 - the room was so lovely but the bath let it down for us. You could tell the bath needed maintenance (tried to be hidden by the bath mat being cleverly laid within the bath) and it looked like there had been some kind of leak underneath. Making us very wary of using it. This resulted in us just using the shower
this creaked majorly when we walked in to it
bit concerning! Apart from that, bed was so comfy. Window could be open nice and wide. Loads of space. Lovely service upon entering & leaving. We had food in the restaurant in the evening and couldn’t fault the food, it was so lovely. Location doesn’t have car park (known after a bit of digging as not explicit on website).

Only a one night stay, but a really lovely little hotel. Good sized, well equipped rooms and great food. The staff were lovely too - very helpful. They even left a snack to take with me because I was leaving before breakfast started

Hands down one of the best boutique hotels around. Stayed in room 6 three times now. And there’s literally no where else around like it. Amazing bed, bath, shower even the lighting is perfect. And the food, well Michelin star worthy in my opinion. The Staff are very friendly and there is always a warm welcoming atmosphere. There are many options for parking just minuets walking distance. Highly recommend to anyone looking for something new, you will not be disappointed.

I stayed overnight in the art deco room (Room 4) and everything was great. The bathroom was right out of a luxury boutique hotel - fantastic. It would be impossible to improve on the shower. But that was nothing compared with dinner. I ordered the fish and chips. They gave me THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS I'VE EVER HAD. Incredible. That really took me by surprise and is a reason to return on its own. What a chef. Breakfast was good too. The team were very friendly, letting me into the restaurant a few minutes early for a coffee while we waited for the kitchen to open. I went for the continental. I overheard one of the team had quickly nipped to the shops because I had ordered yoghurt and they had run out. That's service. To sum up? The Crooked Swan really cares about their customers. They have really thought about how to make each stay a special one. It would be better if they had a car park but that's no huge issue as there's a public one a short walk away. Even if they wanted a car park, there really isn't room to build one!

Really nice pub with log fires. Very welcoming and dog friendly as well. Food was very nice and reasonably priced. If being really critical to them, then they could do with being a little bit more flexible around the menu...ie.. can't have the lamb with chips, can't have a sweetcorn as a kids side meal... As they only have enough for the steak meals that it comes with.. As i say, it's being super critical, not a deal breaker and didn't spoil a lovely meal.

They have amazing customer service from the get go, great COVID regulations, ths canopee was such a lovely atmosphere with beautiful lights and fire heaters. Wildflowers and brilliant music. Such a lovely atmosphere all round and the food was to die for. It was absolutely delicious and we are definitely going back. Hopefully every year! We visited the Half Moon whilst on our minimoon in Dorset. We wanted a lovely “home cooked” Sunday roast and boy did they deliver. The food was exceptional. They also had a band playing in the garden and a magician coming round to the tables (when you weren’t eating) and it was great! Highly recommend and if we’re ever back in the area, we’d definitely visit again.

Really lovely country pub with a local atmosphere and great service. The food was exceptional. I love a burger believe me and I reckon the double bacon smash burger was one of the best I've ever had! Highly recommend!! My fiancé had the chicken and leek pie and was equAlly impressed! This little gem is a must visit if in the area. Oh very dog friendly too, our little puppy spread himself across the pub for a nap whilst we ate!

Rating: 4.6 (160) Price Level:

We stumbled across ‘The Stableyard’ and were so happy we did. We were very hungry and the restaurant was full, also hosting a wake in part of it. The staff were extremely friendly and although there was no room to sit down, we were able to order takeaway - we waited a short amount of time and the ladies then said we could sit down as a table had just left. I had the Mac n Cheese, this was absolutely delicious and exactly what I needed. Cheesy, melting goodness! My husband had the special pie of chicken leek and ham with veggies, gravy and mash. Again, this was absolutely wonderful with plenty of gravy and he especially loved the pastry and big chunks of delicious chicken. We will definitely be going back and will book ahead next time to ensure a table - we don’t want to miss out! Lovely staff and service. Thank you.

Wow wow wow!! The best lunch! The steak pie was absolutely delicious, with melt in the mouth chunks of steak. Luxury hot chocolate was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. And the coffee was smooth and delicious. We were very full after a big plate of food, but the cakes were way too tempting to resist so took some to go. Absolute local treasure! Great menu from local produce. Thank you!

A proper pub serving good beer in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere - primarily a local's bar but we've been made more than welcome on our trips over for a couple of years now. Can honestly say I can't remember ever leaving without having had a good laugh and chat. It's what pubs are all about (or should be).

Located at the end of a primarily single track lane, you'll find this charming pub. If arriving between 2pm and 6pm the owners will give you instruction how to access your room. Starting with the accomodation - the bed was larger than average and exceptionally comfortable. A couple of very tasty homemade biscuits awaited us on the room's serving tray. How lovely! Tea and coffee also in the room, however the milk is kept in the fridge at the bottom of a very short corridor. Disappointingly, one of our folded 'clean' large towels was still dirty, and whilst not affecting us personally it may be worth noting that the shower cubicle is on the smaller side with an older model Mira shower. You'll need to turn the main dial to the left, and the water temperature reaches hot almost instantly. We'd booked an evening meal for 6.30pm, and whilst the dining area was pretty empty at this point within an hour it was full. My meal was heavenly, I cannot praise it enough - a starter of salt & pepper squid on a garlic and lime mayonnaise, a main of sticky beef with rice and an Indonesian-style salad. Absolutely amazing! Breakfast was wonderful too - a small selection of cereals (Weetabix, Alpen or Cornflakes), with the option of pre-prepaired chopped fruits and natural yogurt; followed by a full English. I'd definitely recommend a visit to this pub if you don't mind a drive down a narrow lane -you'll probably not find a more tranquil location.

The location is absolutely stunning, with Golden Cap behind and a view down to the Isle of Portland. This place really is a treat, service is excellent but, it can get very, very busy and you may have to wait for seating. It is on the pricey side too, so as I said, it's a treat. Ask for extra salt on the Padron peppers and you won't be disappointed. Beers were in good condition. A great place to while away a warm summer's evening.

We came for a roast dinner on a rainy Sunday. The service was incredible. The food was delicious. The only problem was the portion size - barely enough meat on the plate to make a sandwich let alone a Sunday roast. Otherwise all good.

A good restaurant in a great location ! Market fish was the best choice on the menu! Extremely fresh and perfectly cooked, accompanied by fennel and good buttered bread. I must say I was a little disappointed with the bouillabaisse... A bit coarse for my French-educated palate... And the apple cake was as beautiful as amber but not very subtle and not rich enough in apples for my taste. The staff were extremely friendly, polite, smiling and efficient. Impeccable hygiene and one of the nicest toilets (perhaps not what you'd expect from a restaurant review, but how important it is! Particularly when you're on the road a lot, it's important that the place where you stop offers comfort in this respect too, and even better with a touch of aesthetics. I highly recomand đŸ©”
