What a beautiful place! Had my birthday lunch here .The food was delicious. The view from the cafe was stunning. Absolutely recommend this gem.

A lovely glass fronted restaurant overlooking buckland lake. We watched the sun set whilst eating great food including pan seared duck breast and chocolate and raspberry tart. God service as well.

Food & service is wonderful, however on a chilly day both myself & my partner were cold (in fairness we were right at the door)BUT I did ask my waitress to move us from a small table for two to a slightly larger more comfortable space, which she did without fuss ..

The food here is fantastic. Definitely worth a visit. Lovely for a special occasion. Or the breakfast menu is most yummy and interesting you'll find locally. It has the added bonus of the most beautiful views of the lake which you can walk around too. Would highly recommend ❤️

My son got married here in August & what a most wonderful day it was. I couldn't fault or change anything. The venue itself is beautiful with lovely grounds & quiet. We were blessed with sunshine so the ceremony was held outside - so special. The food (canapés, wedding breakfast & BBQ) was very good as said by all guests too. Everything ran smoothly - thanks to Bethany (wedding coordinator) & all staff who were very attentive, polite & helpful. The bedrooms were comfortable & clean & breakfast in the morning was plentiful. It was a truly amazing and special day enjoyed by everyone. I would most certainly recommend Hartsfield Manor for a wedding venue.

We had our wedding here on the 28/11/24. From our first meeting with Bethany , our wonderful wedding coordinator, everything went so well. It was a perfect day in a wonderful venue. Staff so attentive, wedding breakfast was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Please have your wedding / celebration here. You won’t regret it.

As part of a murder mystery evening entertainment package, my stay was overall enjoyable, but there were notable areas for improvement that stopped it from reaching its full potential. Stunning Location and Historical Charm The manor itself is a beautifully preserved country house steeped in history, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular wedding venue. The aesthetics and atmosphere exude charm and elegance, particularly in the main building, where we stayed. The rooms in the main house were well-kept, tidy, and comfortable, adding to the luxurious feel of the stay. That said, the lodge-style accommodations situated on the grounds seemed incongruous with the historical vibe of the manor. While I didn’t stay in these, their appearance felt out of place, so I’d recommend paying extra for a room in the main building if possible. Service Shortcomings Unfortunately, the service let the experience down. One recurring issue was the absence of bar staff in the lounge bar. Each time I wanted to order a drink, I found myself heading to reception to find someone to serve me—a tiresome inconvenience for what should be a seamless experience. During the murder mystery dinner, the lack of table service was a missed opportunity for the hotel. Drinks were not served directly to guests, forcing you to leave your table and risk missing parts of the show. A simple solution, such as offering table service via a QR code for easy orders, could have significantly enhanced the experience while boosting the hotel’s revenue. The serving staff also fell short of expectations. Many appeared to be teenagers lacking professional development, with little understanding of efficiency or the etiquette required for polished service. However, the older staff members were no better. One short, stout waiter—sporting a comical moustache and a sour expression—clumsily bumped into me while clearing plates, causing me to stumble forward. To make matters worse, he didn’t offer an apology, leaving me feeling obliged to apologize instead. This lack of basic courtesy and attentiveness was a glaring issue throughout the evening. Mediocre Dining Experience The food was adequate but far from memorable. While I consumed everything on my plate out of sheer hunger (dinner was served at 8 p.m.), the dishes lacked imagination and flair. For an event designed to immerse guests in a lively dinner show, the culinary offerings felt lacklustre and uninspired. Final Thoughts Hartsfield Manor has the potential to offer an outstanding experience, especially with its stunning location, historical charm, and comfortable main house accommodations. However, the subpar service and uninspired dining detracted from the overall enjoyment of our stay. The murder mystery evening was fun, but the lack of table service, inattentive staff, and lacklustre food were significant shortcomings. I’d recommend the manor for its location and aesthetic appeal but would encourage management to focus on professional development for staff and consider creative ways to improve the guest experience during events.

A wonderful find, a real local pub with great service with friendly and cheerful staff. Great local beer and the ploughman's were great (A little more cheese, please, maybe blue cheese), which really added to our visit. A dog friendly pub with a beautiful historic church opposite, which was also a part of the film Four weddings and a funeral, the 1st wedding apparently! The dolphin was well worth the drive!

Went there for lunch last Friday as I hadn't been there for a number of years and I wasn't disappointed. The food was excellent. Good old fashioned pub grub ( or put another way, a proper plate of food). I had the cheese steak burger. It was absolutely delicious and the wonderful side salad that it was served with. The bar lady was lovely, friendly and made sure that we had a pleasant experience . Will definitely be going back there soon. Mary O'Connor

Stumbled across this little gem and so glad we did. Breakfast was delicious and portions were good. Service and staff were friendly and efficient. The resident Meerkats were adorable and looked happy and well looked after. Definitely recommend

Popped in again for lunch and once again we were not disappointed. Warm and festive with very friendly staff . Food and service very good . It wasn’t our first visit and definitely won’t be our last . Highly recommend a visit I had a jacket potato which was cooked to perfection with plenty of filling and my husband had scampi and chips both came with a lovely salad

One of the best pub lunches and experiences I’ve had in a very long time. This pub is superb. Not enough superlatives to describe it. The pub is lovely, really nice laid back, traditional pub but with a modern feeling. Very spacious and lots of seating indoor and outdoor. The outdoor area is huge and covered, with plenty of heaters. Ideal for larger groups. The food is amazing. Had the roast beef Sunday lunch, genuinely one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in a very long time. Superb. Staff are friendly and welcoming. A bit on the expensive side but well worth the money. Highly recommended

Been there twice, both times food and service have been fantastic. The pub is beautiful inside and out, and the atmosphere is nice and welcoming. They serve Shere Drop from Surrey Hills Brewery 👌🏻

It's been a while (years) since I've visited this pub. It's much improved in my view. The food was good and the service was excellent despite it being a busy or Xmas Sunday lunch. The roasts were tasty (could have done with a bit more veggies though). On the expensive side, approx £140 on a meal for 3 people with a drink and no starters.

Lovely ambience, good food but could do with a little more care as to seasoning and was very busy. We did go at Christmas time so would easily attribute both minor points to the business. Lovely staff

I recently enjoyed a lovely meal at the Arkle Manor. I opted for the banana blossom stew which was delicious, followed by a mini crème brûlée which was the perfect sweet treat to finish. I was really impressed with their selection of non-alcoholic cocktails - it's great to see such interesting options available. I also appreciated that they included calorie information on the menu, which is always helpful. The staff were attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The facilities were generally good, although the toilet roll did need replacing. Overall, I had a very positive experience at the Arkle Manor.

I used to work for the Arkle as head barman many years ago when David Rustle was the duty manager. Popped in for some drinks and some food on Saturday 11/1/25. The service was amazing. The food was delicious. The young lady behind bar was incredible. Highly recommended as a place to just relax, unwind and enjoy what’s on offer. Thank you Arkle team.

The food is amazing and delicious, server are very friendly and helpful. The place itself is very relaxing and spotless. We really had a great time. I will definitely recomend and coming back again.

The food was absolutely delicious, I had the Chipotle British Half Rotisserie Chicken and the flavours worked so well, the chicken was succulent and the whole meal was cooked to perfection. Followed by the brownie for dessert which hit the sweet spot :) I would highly recommend a visit.

Make sure you book a table outside, the views of box hill are incredible. If you are here in the evening, they have blankets for outside and the fire, so it’s feels very cosy and romantic. The food here is brilliant, I recommend the lamb, the hake (sometimes on the specials board), the roast dinners! Portions are large, and great value for money. Staff here are really friendly, and sometimes they have live music on a Friday night.

Lovely pub, great food. We popped in for Sunday lunch before a trip to a nearby winery. They are running a really slick operation, service was on point, and food was delivered very quickly. We had one of the Sunday roasts which was very nice although my personal preference is for the veg to be a little more cooked (a minor complaint). After lunch we went out to the lower terrace to enjoy a drink in the sun. Can't fault the place, good food in an excellent location with fast attentive service. Everything was great!

Beautiful pub by Box Hill! Lovely outdoor garden terrace overlooking the hill. It was a very busy Saturday but the service was still friendly and efficient. The food was amazing - the Dressed Devonshire Crab was very refreshing and the truffle mayo was amazing! The baked Camembert went really well with the apricot jam!

The Watermill has always been my go-to pub in the summer, but this was my first time visiting during winter, and I’m so glad I did! I booked a Christmas brunch with friends, and the entire experience was fantastic. From the start, Daniel made us feel incredibly welcome. He had thoughtfully booked us a lovely table, keeping in mind that we had three toddlers with us. His friendly demeanor instantly put us at ease. Peter, who served us, was equally amazing—so kind, patient, and attentive, even amidst the inevitable chaos of having little ones at the table. He went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable and enjoying ourselves. Offered to click our pictures as well. The food quality was great as always, and the staff’s warmth and attentiveness really stood out. To top it off, they had a charming Christmas market in the outdoor area, with lots of cute things to browse and buy. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and I can’t wait to come back again—whether in summer or winter! Highly recommend The Watermill for its great food, friendly staff, and cozy ambiance.

Absolutely the best birthday place! I had such an amazing time and felt super celebrated. Tabby made my day absolutely fantastic. Her and another lovely colleague sang me happy birthday so nicely, and it didn't feel like they did it just because they had to, it was lovely! The atmosphere in there is so cool, really commits to the vibe while not being too cheesey and the food is fantastic! I had one of the best vegi burgers I have ever had! Overall Absolutely amazing! Couldn't recommend more!

We went tonight for my daughter’s 16th birthday, the food, the service and the atmosphere was 5 star. By far the best food we have had there over the past 5 years there. John our waiter was on fire, he gave a fantastic rendition of happy birthday ever with the birthday dessert surprise. He was a little run off his feet but looked after us so well. Highly recommended and thank you to the whole team.

I went to Smith and Western on Boxhill for a birthday lunch, the menu was creative and well-put together. From stakes to spare ribs To chicken and burgers... the presentation of each dish when it arrived at our table was first class. Everything was nicely cooked and really enjoyable.
