Simply put…lovely tasty food… I cannot fault the food. I would love to go again. I’ve been back for lunch and I had some lovely food again….and I feel too full in a good way for dinner…. I had something from the a la carte and the December lunch menu. Please see my new photos .. but I forgot the photo of the dessert .. it was sponge with ice cream.

We had snacks, starters, main and dessert and the food was exceptional! We took advice from the waitress Phoebe who recommended some sides too - how right she was! The menu had plenty for us to choose from and the presentation beautiful. The atmosphere was cosy and made us feel comfortable and relaxed. We would highly recommend and look forward to returning, thank you Chefs Mike and Dave and all the staff we had a most enjoyable experience!

Midweek lunch was excellent. One of us had the set menu, the other a la carte. The food allergy was handled very well. The pasta starter was tasty and interesting. My French onion soup was lukewarm but soon remedied. The mains, quail and partridge were well presented and had some good flavours. Mine was a little tough. We shared a cute little dessert. The service was OK but lacked charm. My soup should not have been sent out lukewarm. I do not like a pre-set service charge. It's not nice for customers.

We had phenomenal lunch at the Anchor. The food was stunning and offered amazing value. The smoked salmon tartlets and the braised pork belly were particular highlights. The cooking was superb, everything was seasoned so well and the presentation was beautiful. Can’t wait to return

I had a wonderful Sunday roast at lunchtime today. Roast beef, lots of fresh vegetables, and some of the yummiest roast potatoes I’ve ever had, all served with a smile in such a homely, welcoming way. So lucky to have such a great roast available in this lovely village pub. Thank you!

Pub was lovely and friendly. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Some bits could do with upgrade (blind in bathroom). But would certainly stay there again. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.

Unreal roast and the fish and chips were phenomenal. Portion sizes were very generous. Every item in the roast felt like it had been given individual attention overall, making the flavours mouth wateringly good. The chef deserves a pay rise. A lot of Sunday lunch providers could learn a lot from this place. Pics don't do it justice, but I'll add 'em anyway 😉 Easily worth the hour drive from central London for this.

Absolutely brilliant establishment! The food was amazing, the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was really relaxing. The menu has a nice big range of different meals to suit everyone. The staff even added a candle to one of the puddings as we were celebrating a birthday, even though I was joking they did it anyway!! Absolutely brilliant place to go and we will definitely be visiting again! Big 👍

Really good Gastro Pub. We dined here recently with a large party for a family birthday celebration. We were able to reserve a private area inside the pub which was perfect for our group. Service was good considering there were around 20 of us. Food and drinks arrived quickly and the kids really enjoyed playing in the garden and the playground. There’s a wonderful outdoor seating area with some cute shepherds huts that are great on a summer’s evening. The menu is extensive and has options to suit everyone, including an entirely separate pizza menu. Highlight for me was my fish and chips which included possibly the largest piece of battered cod that I have ever had the pleasure of being served! It was piping hot and super crispy, accompanied with a tasty tartar sauce - simply perfect! Everyone enjoyed their food and whilst it wasn’t cheap, we didn’t find the prices too excessive. Would definitely come back again to try some other items on the menu and would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family.

Went for Sunday dinner it's £20 a head and you have the pick of gammon, turkey or beef or all three! Meat was cooked well nice and moist. The potatoes, veg and yorkshires were OK just a bit bland but cooked well, I was hoping for a bit better but can't really complain for the price. They do cram you in a bit on the tables which doesn't create the nicest atmosphere, overall I would say its average.

Stayed here for 3 nights & had a lovely time. The room was comfy & we weren’t disturbed by the wedding parties. Breakfast was nice, although the staff on our second morning were rude & grumpy. However, the waitress who looked after us for our evening meal was lovely!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights bed breakfast and evening meal. Food was always served hot and was delicious. Staff were friendly polite and helpful. Shower was amazing as was the bed and pillows. Only negative was that some areas could be cleaner, doors were grimy and certain areas could do with a polish. Overall our stay was amazing and we both look forward to visiting this hotel again. There are some lovely walks we visited a lovely pub on one of our walks called the badger and enjoyed a pint by the canal.

What can we say? We had our small wedding of ten people at The Talbot on Saturday and it was absolutely amazing and unforgettable. They made our intimate wedding have all the buzz of a bigger event, and Krystyna handled EVERYTHING so effortlessly that we could just enjoy every moment of our big day! The venue looked fab, the food was lush, the barn was the perfect space for our wedding. And the rooms had all the quirk of an older building and were comfortable and warm. If you’re considering a wedding at The Talbot, then definitely put it to the top of your list - it was incredible! And what’s better, our little dog Moose was invited to the whole event and even had a room for the night! We can’t thank you all enough!

We had our wedding at The Talbot on 6th September 24 and we can’t thank all the staff enough for all their work and efforts in making this the most perfect day. The day ran absolutely seamlessly, the food was fantastic and we have received so many compliments from friends and family on how lovely the venue was and what an amazing day it was. Krystyna our wedding coordinator was incredible from start to finish, helping us through the planning every step of the way. She was absolutely amazing and was always so happy to help, answer any questions I had and put me at ease the whole step of the way. The bridal suite was lovely and the wedding package they offer is worth every penny! Thank you so much

One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had at a pub. The potatoes were plentiful and crunchy, the chicken - moist and tender - was cooked to perfection and there was plenty of veg: red cabbage, peas, leeks, parsnips and carrots. The location of the pub is stunning too: on the canal.

This was our second visit in a week. After been looked after by Joe on our first visit, we knew this was quickly going to become a family favourite! So much so that we returned with my parents who have been visiting from abroad. They too loved the atmosphere, food and the fantastic service, with Joe once again proving to be an absolute credit to the pub. A mention needs to be made regarding the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It is cracking! We will most definitely be back sooner rather than later, and look forward to another amazing walk down the canal followed by what is quickly becoming known as 'The Anchor Experience'.

Location was amazing, great beer, good food and we got to sit outside on a gorgeous day and watch the free entertainment of people navigating the narrow bridge over the Lock. The Beers - we tried Fursty Ferret and Tangle Foot. Both were delicious, my favourite though was the Ferret. We may have indulged in a few of each whilst we nibbled on some chips before our mains arrived. Food - we had the Chicken Caesar Salad, Vegetarian Curry and Lamb Shank. All were really good.
