A truly magical gem that surprises and delights. One of the most peaceful and restorative spaces I've had the pleasure to spend time in. This place couldn't fail to bring joy to all who visit. The sheer pleasure of being immersed in such a tranquil space can be seen on the faces of every single volunteer. It's a little escape from the hustle and bustle of life beyond the gate.

Visited the garden on 3rd September. Although it only has limited parking we had no problems finding a space. We were greeted at the entrance by a friendly and informative guide who gave us a brief overview of the gardens and amenities. As it was close to lunchtime the first stop was the cafe. This has a large seating both inside and in the garden. The food was good, we both had Paninies which were very good and at a good price. The facilities are spotlessly clean. You can visit the cafe without having to pay entry to the garden. The garden although is only 1 acre the design crams in so many small gardens and walkways it seems so much larger. The planting and hard landscaping is wonderful and is well worth the visit. Price is £7 which is very reasonable and even better is part of the gardeners world 2 for 1 ticket offer. The annual price is also a very cheap option at only .£30. There is also a shop and also plant sales again at reasonable prices. I would highly recommend a visit

Visited here for the first time. What a beautiful garden with plants we've never seen before, a meadow with around 10 beehives, and a lovely cafe. A real gem, we will visit again next year. Cheers guys.

York Gate is a delightful one-acre Grade II National Heritage Garden created by the Spencer family. It delights with a succession of linked gardens (or "rooms"as they are known) which take their design inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement and were developed thanks to the horticultural skills of its owner Sybil Spencer and developed between 1951 and 1994. Each individual "room" has its own beauty and interest, with a wealth of plants, shrubs and trees, some immediately recognisable, others much more exotic! There are several water features and unusual structures and stonework, a meadow with beehives plus varied and intricate pathways linking the different "rooms". I was fortunate to visit as part of a National Trust garden volunteer's group and had the benefit of a guided tour given by the affable and knowledgeable Head Gardener, who explained how the garden has evolved and continues to do so. There is also a cafe, shop and plant nursery on the site. It is most definitely worth a visit and cannot fail to impress and inspire!

An absolute hidden gem! One of the most beautiful garden to visit in Yorkshire!! Plenty of interest everywhere you looked. There’s lots of different areas to wander and seating in places to marvel at the fantastic handiwork. The cafe had seating both inside and out with a good selection of food and drink. Plenty of parking spaces alongside a gift shop and plant nursery. Highly recommend visiting if you love gardens!!!

Our gardens were very overgrown with hedges, shrubs, fruit trees and conifers needing trimming/pruning. An excellent job was carried out and all cuttings were taken away leaving everywhere neat and tidy. All done quickly and at a good price. Would recommend and will be returning customers.

After a season of neglect my garden was overgrown & desperately in need of attention. Ben replied promptly, they arrived at the arranged time as well. Job was carried out to a high standard. A job that would have taken me days, was completed in a few hours. Pruning, few feet of the hedge, a boundary of trees all cut back, weeding, edges reformed & tidying. All waste taken away. Now the garden looks amazing.

FirstLight Landscaping are a good company to work with when you're looking for a competent landscaping company that can project manage really well. We were looking to refresh the garden, as how we use the space is functionally different than the previous owners of our home. With FLL's designs (via Neal), we were able to discuss and alter them as often as we needed. When we eventually got to the work actually beginning (on Liam's side), their team were really flexible, and allowed us to add or change things in the design when we realised other needs for the space. Also, Ian and Rich, who worked on-site for the duration of the project, were lovely people who did great work, and knew a lot from their own experience, that helped inform when there were potentially better design choices. Overall, FLL are a trustworthy company, and I'd be happy to use their services again if the chance came up.

We had James and Murphy in for two weeks (with Liam supervising) putting in some raised decking in the back garden. They were extremely considerate of us and our neighbours at all times, and kept us fully informed about the progress of the work, even when we didn't ask. Our garden has restricted access so some of the aspects of deliveries were complicated but this was handled seamlessly. Their quality of work is very good and they involved us when decisions needed to be made, giving advice but leaving it ultimately up to us. They left the space incredibly tidy when they left, and it looks like we have a completely new garden! They were one of the best contractor teams we've had working on the house.

We had an absolutely brilliant experience working with the FirstLight team. After being disappointed by several companies Neal really took on board what we wanted. The team (headed up by Dave) were informative throughout, even keeping me up to date while I was away on holiday. Incredibly clean and tidy at the end of each working day. Any changes we made were taken onboard without any fuss. The quality of workmanship is clear to see and we now have a beautiful back garden that we can really enjoy and show off. FirstlightLandscaping first built our raised decking 14 years ago so when it needed replacing we didn’t hestitate to contact them again. There were a few hiccups with the delivery of materials from a third party but we were kept informed all the time. The FirstLight team were great from start to finish. We wanted a patio doing after having some work done on the house - Neal was really helpful with ideas, designs and advising on ways to keep to budget. All of the team were extremely professional and friendly. Most importantly we’ve been really impressed with the quality of their work. It has been finished to a really high standard. Dale and his team did an excellent job in putting in our new lawn and replacing the brick paving borders. The soil and turf used were top quality and the finished result is great. They quickly transformed a rubble filled hole to a lovely lawn. I do not hesitate to recommend then and will be using them again in the future for another section of lawn in our front garden. We contacted many landscaping companies for a quote for our garden makeover but they either didn’t turn up, quoted but didn’t turn up on the day or made an excuse not to give us a start date! My wife contacted Dale and he arrived as agreed, we discussed what we would like then Dale threw in some suggestions of his own which we hadn’t thought of which were brilliant. Dale forwarded a quote that night and we agreed the price, he suggested a date and he started the work on time. It was the hottest day of the year in 2024 but Dale and his team carried on with hardly a break, we ensured they were well hydrated as our garden is a sun trap. All the work was carried out to a very high standard and on time, Dale would regularly ask for feedback on the progress and advise if there were any snags. The guys have done a fantastic job, the attention to detail is brilliant and we really appreciate the hard work. We both thank you.

Would 100% recommend D&C lawn turf specialists, Dale and his team are professional, polite & extremely hard working. They were also very accommodating with a last minute change in the scope of works to include a concrete base for an outhouse. They kept us informed of progress and estimated completion throughout and the final result exceeded our expectations. We were given comprehensive aftercare instructions and the lawn is already looking amazing. Dales attention to detail and professionalism was second to none, the before photos do not do justice to the task they faced of a new build garden that consisted of mainly puddles with quite an incline, we look forward to many years of a puddle free lawn! We had a drainage issue in our back garden that had been getting worse each year to the point where we couldn't walk on the grass. There was standing water everywhere. Dale and his team talked us through a solution, explained how it would work, dug the channels and pits, laid the pipes and grit, then layered the soil and sand on top before placing the turf neatly on top. The team worked really hard on this, it's a 10m x 10m garden and we couldn't get machinery down the side, so this was a big effort. They were really diligent in the way they went about the work, they kept us informed along the way... it was a pleasure to have them round! Ours is a new build garden, which are notorious for issues such as this. We knew the ground wasn't prepared properly and that we'd likely hit issues like this. Nothing was beyond the team, they made us feel reassured and thanks to their hard work it feels like we have our garden back again — and when the weather is nice, it's the biggest room in the house, so well worth the investment! Thanks guys, amazing work! Couldn't recommend you highly enough. Basically, if you just want a problem sorting, no matter what size/scale, these guys will sort it for you without a fuss.

Lee & Co did an amazing job of clearing an old scruffy garage and unused, overgrown space at the end of our garden, and creating a beautiful pergola and seating /socialising area, with raised beds for growing, all fully fenced in (ours is the garden in the makeover video). It more than doubled our use of the garden and years later is still money well spent. Lee was fantastic at advising on the best materials available within our budget and where not to cut corners. Wow my garden was like a forest before. The work green gardens have done to transform my garden is amazing! Very responsive, very polite and professional did everything I asked for.
