I went on a course with Jake at Thompson's wood. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has any interest in woodworking or turning. This is a fantastic course for anyone looking to get their first woodworking experience. Rather than working in a large workshop that you can never imagine in your own garden, Jake's course is in his personal workshop and it makes you feel like you could get there too one day. If you want to understand the first principles of taking a piece of wood and transforming it into something stylish and elegant, then this is for you. It is 1:1 so you can learn as fast or as slow as you like. It isn't all handtools and traditional approaches so if, like me, you want to make the most from tools and machinery then Jake will show you how to, both safely and efficiently. Jake is enthusiastic and encouraging as well as being a great person to talk to. I cannot recommend this course enough, it is fantastic and I am so glad I found it. Alex D

Jake's a good egg. Well humoured and easy going. I had a great time learning more about woodwork and joinery on the cabinetry course. I keep looking at the table thinking "really? That happened?" I had a fantastic day ... and with zero experience I came away with a bowl (and a lid)! I'd not have thought it possible from a standing start and it is entirely down to Jake. He is a great tutor and provided the perfect mix of direction, encouragement, fun and technical info. It's a brilliant hands on course and I can definitely and wholeheartedly recommend it!

Gyles has made us 3 beautiful oak cottage style doors, the quality and workmanship is second to none. Absolutely beautiful and we are very happy with his professionalism and service provided from start to finish. Clean and tidy within the property, old house provided Gyles with many obstacles, odd size frames and movement within the property but he worked his magic and the end result is exactly what we requested. We had an excellent experience with Old Tom's Workshop, for a bespoke table extension. Tasked with the challenge of extending a solid oak live edge dining table, Gyles delivered a stunning piece that perfectly complements the existing table. Gyles was both patient and professional throughout the process. He skillfully used a more affordable wood veneer, while seamlessly edging it in real oak to maintain the live edge look. The result is a beautiful table extension crafted to the highest standards, all at an affordable price. Highly recommended!

We're recently planning to move house. Since my mum brought a range of her china sets back from Pakistan. There was clearly no space, where we could put our china sets. After doing some research, I've looked online and looked at the work David Gill did in terms of his joinery and was really impressed with the work. Despite them being based in Oldham, David and his wife Katherine came over to the property in Manchester and provided suggestions and designs based on where to place cutlery cabinets in our dining room. Once they provided the suggestions and colour palette for the wood being used, they kept in regular touch with my younger sister based on the overall quote and measurements. David and his colleague assembled the bespoke cutlery cabinets and fits perfectly both sides of the fireplace, whilst matching to the dining chairs. I'm really pleased with how David and Katherine took into consideration that my older sister has a muscle disorder and applied cabinet handles that my sister is able to pull in case she needs access to any china sets. David gave us clear recommendations on how to maintain the cabinets for longer periods of time. Overall, I'm really pleased with the work David and Katherine carried out. In future, we may be looking to have more bespoke furniture done and will not hesitate to contact them for support!!! Thank you, David and Katherine!!!! 👍😊 Isa, Raeha and Family.

Highly rated and brilliant job from David. We’d been designing and thinking about plywood storage for a few years and David gave us a competitive quotation. He was on time, professional, quiet and methodical, also a self confessed perfectionist. He was also polite, pleasant trustworthy and clean. David have some clever ideas and also listened to our ideas during installation as we altered some bits and pieces. He also suggested removable shelving and importantly designed and built a section to house our washing machine and boiler, which will still allow us to service or remove them easily by removing some of that section. Overall, if we could give 10 stars we would. If you need a skilled cabinet maker, defiantly give David serious consideration when looking at options. He’s 20+ years skilled in shop-fitting and cabinet making so should be able to do most challenging jobs, as was ours.

We really liked the work we saw on Dave's website and asked him to quote for replacing our mahogany staircase with a new oak and glass one. From the first contact with Dave and Katherine, we were impressed by their knowledge, professionalism and clear commitment to create something that would have an immediate impression and be the centrepiece of the hallway. We are so glad we chose them to do the work because the end product is stunning. The process from quotation to completion was highly professional and stress free. They kept us informed throughout, Dave and Jason arrived when they said they would, worked with amazing drive and focus throughout. The quality of their work is superb. They are highly skilled and worked quickly taking almost no time for breaks, even for brews! At the end of each day they cleaned up impeccably so much so that apart from the changes happening you wouldn't have thought any work had happened, they left our hallway in such an excellent condition. The toughened glass took just over a week to arrive and they fitted wooden panels where the glass would go to make the staircase safe until then. With visiting small grandchildren that was important and much appreciated. We have now exactly the staircase we wanted and we love it. The price was fair, the workmanship outstanding, and the communication throughout first class establishing trust and confidence. We would recommend Dave, Katherine (and Jason) with out any hesitation. And we we will certainly use them again for future projects. Our best experience involving major work without a doubt.

We have just had our bespoke alcove unit designed, made and fitted by Dave. Katherine and Dave came to see us to get an idea of what we wanted and then from there to the installation any queries I had were answered promptly and nothing was to much trouble. Dave’s a great guy and his workmanship is amazing, attention to detail and could not be happier with the whole service and finished product we will see next year for the bedroom design , thank you both. His work spans traditional and contemporary designs and each job is carried out with care and expertise. He made a neat contemporary staircase for my welsh cottage and I am highly delighted with it. Doug has created 3 bespoke kitchens at different properties over the last 10 years. Each project has been designed,fitted and finished (using traditional wooodworking skills) to an excellent high standard,at an excellent price He goes the extra mile to make sure you have what you wish for but with all his experience he brings fantastic and practical ideas.I would not hesitate to recommend him for any individual,bespoke or quirky project that requires a traditional skilled CRAFTSMEN.

Doug has been recommended to us and what a breath of fresh air he is! He is lovely to deal with, friendly and approachable. His work is exemplary. His attention to detail is phenomenal and it is so refreshing to meet a contractor who arrives on time, who doesn't want to eat his lunch until he feels he's reached a "suitable cut off point" and who would stay late and get it right rather than rush his work and have to compromise on the finish. Doug is currently making a replica Victorian front door and frame for us which has a lot of detail and will have stained glass panels. It was good to be able to discuss different ideas and designs and we are very excited to see the finished article. He is a "craftsman" in the true sense of the word and his rates are extremely reasonable given his expertise and the quality of his work. We really cannot recommend him highly enough. What can I say Jordan has done an absolutely amazing job for us , worked closely with us throughout in terms of making our somewhat quirky design choices come to life. The finish is exceptional, probably better than we could have imagined. Great communication throughout the work and left the place as tidy as when he started. I would highly recommend Manchester Carpentry. I recently had underfloor heating installed and needed the manifold to be boxed in to stop it getting damaged and to make the area look tidier.
