We've had Sunday dinner several times since The Sanctuary changed hands . It's always been good but yesterday it was excellent. The biggest change was that instead of a dish of boiled vegetables they now serve diced, roasted root vegetables along with red cabbage and broccoli spears ( on the plate) which were so full of flavour . The cauliflower cheese was delicious with a crisp cheese topping . For desert I had the Bakewell tart with custard , my husband had tiramisu and both were very tasty . The staff were so friendly and attentive which made the whole dining experience a pleasure We will certainly be going back and can highly recommend

Beautiful location and a beautiful building. The owner Steve and the staff are the loveliest people, very welcoming and friendly/chatty. Really made us feel at home as soon as we arrived to check in. The Lavender room is relaxing and oozes luxury and comfort. The food was perfection - we ordered the sirloin and my compliments to the chef, ultimate happy dancing! First night and such a strong impression has been made, we are already planning a second visit and looking forward to the rest of our stay, going home will be hard.

Wednesday night had the set steak meal, with sharing board starter of meats and olives, with a bonus red wine each…£38 for two of us….unbelievable. We do eat out a lot ( it’s our age ) but that’s as good as we’ve had in a long time, couple that with table service by two lovely young ladies who were so attentive but not over bearing, tonight was a truly fantastic culinary experience….we shall be back. first time visit , booked a table for lunch,.they only service lunch menu. the prices of lunch meals were reasonable.the vegetable soup was hot and good. the batter of fiah and chips were crispy. the custards that come with apple crumbles and sticky toffee pudding were only half of a small jugs. a good service as they gave us more custards when we asked for more.

I cant thank Ellie enough for her help with decorating the venue for our wedding. It was like a dream come true when I saw the room all dressed up. An absolutely stunning flower arch (which Ellie personalised to match the colour theme) spectacular centre pieces (again personalised to colour theme) and stylish table plan and name cards, all made the room look like a fairytale. Ellie was a dream to make arrangements with, communication was prompt and reliable. Couldn't be more happier with the service we received and we were delighted with the outcome. I honestly cannot express how highly I recommend everything covered! Originally booked for a wedding in 2020 which was cancelled due to covid, after another attempted and failed wedding, we finally got there! (Third time lucky!) So much changed in this time, the venue (twice), the decor, the items I hired (even to the point that the day before the wedding we were messaging about what decor we could add!) and honestly Ellie went above and beyond to make everything perfect for us! She even added extra covers on the day as the venue misunderstood the table plan and therefore we ended up with more chairs than expected! The covers, hoods, the most beautiful starlight curtain and she even added a beautiful ‘happily ever after’ sign which just added to the ambience! Thank you so much, I can’t have been an easy customer but nothing felt too much of an ask and she was so helpful and understanding! Thank you!

We booked Ellie for our wedding in May. Ellie's communication leading up to the wedding was fab and she really undetstood what we wanted for our big day. We met Ellie the night before at the venue and she was lovely and friendly. Our ceremony room was beautiful and looked amazing with the chair hoods and broaches. The sweet cart was fab and went down well with all ages. A couple of things did get missed off and were missing for the wedding which i discussed with Ellie after and she kindly refunded me for those items. Thank you for making our venue look exactly how we wanted it.

Ellie at everything covered dressed our entire wedding and I can not express how incredible everything was, from the details in the ceremony to the finishing touches for our gift table. Ellie created exactly what we had imagined the rooms would look like, she was so professional and efficient throughout the whole process and made it so enjoyable to plan with her. We 100% recommend everything covered! Thankyou so much Ellie for everything.

What a gem!!! Lived in the area for a few years. Can't believe I hadn't heard of this place. Quintessential English pub. Humming and busy. Staff were helpful and attentive without being overbearing. Dinner was freshly cooked and tasty. The salt cod and chorizo fish cakes were incredible. Garlic mushrooms on toast was great. Mushrooms not overcooked. But strong garlic taste. The Beef Wellington was perfect. The liver and bacon was great. Why then only 4 stars for food? The creamy leek side was rather watery and disappointing when compared to the Wellington. And the chips were a little soft. Cooked well. But soft. Maybe 3 times cooked chips would be better. But that's my personal taste. Will definitely revisit. Recommend you do too. But make sure you book. You'll need to.

Beautiful little place,out the way. The food was beautiful, and fantastic service throughout. Food was piping hot even though we had a party of around 20 people with kids. 10-10.

Well what a little find this was. Recommended by Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre we went for an evening meal. Would never have known it was there otherwise. Lovely old traditional building with a massive beer garden overlooking the open country side and nice seating area at side of pub as well. Bet it's lovely for a drink on a warm day. Staff area really friendly and a good menu choice at reasonable prices. Only grumble we had is it was very warm in the pub but they opened a window for us. Just don't go in a vest and jumper. Have you say the food was impressive tasty and well presented. We ordered a few side dishes which whilst lovely weren't needed as portions are generous. It's a bit of a trek from where we live but we will be back with friends.

Excellent lunch with friendly attentive service. Good menu and very nice ales and cider on the bar.

Delicious coffee and avo salmon toast doggies were welcome too

Absolutely fantastic place. Food is always fresh and tasty (the homemade chips are incredible) Very friendly and welcoming. Our dog has confirmed that the dog sausages are the best and that this is a must for all his doggy friends to visit.

We go every week and have done for a few years. A lovely walk in the woods with the dogs followed by brunch in the diner. Andy and Tanya are very friendly and serve delicious food at a reasonable price. Tanya makes the best omelettes! The Full Monty breakfast is a must!! Dog friendly and doggy sausages available. Highly recommend.

Booked the function room for surprise 80th birthday party. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Many thanks to the 2 ladies and the Gentleman who was around during time of the party to collect glasses, Uncover the buffet also clear up some empty pots. This room was well presented and ideal for parties. The only downfall was the toilets hadn't got any hand drying facilities. If you book this room need to sort your own music/disco lights but can be a magical time. I recommend this place 100%. Thankyou all who was involved making this afternoon/ evening an enjoyable birthday .

Second time coming here and I can’t say a bad word. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I asked the waitress about a sauce if it was spicy or not and she got me a small amount to try before I had it on my dish, which I thought was really lovely. She was so kind and polite throughout our whole visit. The food was absolutely delicious one of the best tear ‘n’ shares we’ve had in a long time. The loaded chips are to die for, we just had eyes bigger than our bellies and ended up having the rest to go as the portions were massive! Cant wait to come back again and hopefully be able to try the desserts! Thank you to all the staff for making it such a pleasant experience.

The highlight of our anniversary trip away and we’re already planning our next visit! We came to the Devonshire on the first night of our stay away in the neighbouring town of Bolsover - it had good reviews and was only a short drive, so we took our chance. When we arrived it was very busy, so we didn’t think we’d get in. We politely asked the front of house staff whether there was room for two, to which we were told there was and we were very quickly seated. The staff were very friendly and were very attentive - especially considering we hadn’t made a reservation and was placed away from the main dining hall. We ordered from their festive menu - a Christmas dinner and a festive loaded fries - and in no time at all they were placed on our table. It, honestly, couldn’t have been longer than 20 minutes for our food to be ordered and on the table. The Christmas dinner was beautifully presented with delicious turkey, and the portion sizes were generous - the loaded fries could have fed a small army! It was the perfect meals for a long day of driving and walking. We were very full after our mains, but there’s always a second stomach for dessert! We ordered a brownie (which we got to share, begrudgingly), it was a generous slice topped with chocolate bar chunks and a honeycomb and caramel ice cream. The ice cream was perfectly scooped and was absolutely delicious with the brownie - I would highly recommend it, even to share if you were as full up as we were! We thought the food was incredible value for money and the staff were absolutely amazing, we can’t wait to come back in the new year on our next trip! Highly recommend if you’re visiting close by and need a much needed feed after a day of walking.

When we arrived the table was not yet ready, we were told to get a drink at the bar. The bar is small so it did get quite full, we had 2 wheelchairs in the party and it was a little awkward to move around. Lovely with the log burner. All of the building was great for the accessability. The table was a good size to accomidate the wheelchairs. The table was located under the heater unit so there was a constent hot blow on one half of the table. This did make 2 guests a little uncomfortable. The food was lovely we had the pork & beef. The veg was a good selection with about 8 veg meaning there was something for everyone. Some of the veg were under cooked. The portion sizes were huge and meat was lovely. Could have done with a stake knife for the pink beef. Onto puddings, again the portions were huge I had the banoffee pudding and it was very nice. The only downside was the burnt toffee on the bananas and there were a few to many dried bananas however this is one of the nicest puddings I have had. Over all the meal was lovely and I will be returning.

Absolutely fantastic. As we walked through the door, we were greeted by the lovely lady behind the bar. She made us feel welcome and at home whilst we waited for our table. Some of the waiting staff were very young on our visit, but they were all brilliant at their job. Nothing was too much and we were served with a smile. As for the food... oh my gosh! Delicious. We can't wait to visit again.

Food is very nice and tasty, service by a young team that were very professional and polite as well as very helpful. They ask you if everything is alright and leave you with great manners. Came with to the premier inn for work for the week and dined here for that week and have to say I was impressed with everything and would recommend to all those working away from home to come here.

We visit for breakfast most Saturdays and always leave satisfied (and full!) The food is plentiful, hot and there is always a great selection. The staff are always friendly and helpful - especially Rad, Nicola and the guy with the facial hair who used to work at Spoons (Mike?). Highly recommended 😋

The best steak for a fraction of the price. Brilliant for kids. My son loved it…. Service was brilliant. Shout out to Jack for 5 start service and Ben as a great chef. :-)

I ordered steak with salad, no dressing. The staff were polite and helpful. The restaurant was clean, I enjoyed my meal. I have been here numerous times (on one occasion I had a problem with my meal, I wasn't happy, the staff on that day didn't seem interested so didn't go back for a couple of months.) Although I have been back a couple of times prior this visit on 27th February 2025 and enjoyed those meals, I will go back again.

Had a meal here recently for the first time. The menu has many options and the portions sizes are spot on, the burgers and calzone were both delicious and I would definitely recommend them! We were well looked after by Leah, nothing was too much trouble and she was very friendly and welcoming. Will return to try something else in the future!

Time to 'fess up'. I've been popping to the 'Oak' for a while now and not putting a review on because I'd like to keep it a bit of a secret, but...... that's not really fair. This is is a really lovely country pub, it feels modern but with deep roots in both the landscape and the community, a rare feat in today's world. It is located within walking distance of botht he public Clumber and private Welbeck estates. It's really easy to plot an entirely off road walk or cycle from any of the nearby towns of Mansfield, Worksop, Retford or Ollerton and cycle or catch the bus back. It might be 13 miles from my home but I'm more than prepared to overlook that and consider this my 'local'. The food is varied and excellent and the range of beers eclectic and well kept, all in all an excellent public house and long may it continue!

Fantastic birthday lunch. In my opinion,the experience was much better than other restaurants in the area. Luckily we had come across the Green Dale Oak after walking out of our booked meal that lunchtime because of the atmosphere at the then called Van Dyke Hotel, not being suitable and Luckily we were able to eat at the Green dale. Great service, fantastic food and the perfect atmosphere. Thank you for making my birthday special. We will be returning.

Me, my husband and my grandad have come for a carvery today 19/02/2025. Me and my husband had the plant based chicken, the food is absolutely lovely all three of us absolutely enjoyed the the food. All the staff are absolutely friendly and polite. Will definitely come back here again my grandad enjoyed his meat, everything bit of food had plenty of flavour. I mentioned to my husband I could just eat the cheese and onion mash that was absolutely tasty. Loved all the food. There is no complaints from us three, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a real good meal

We are regular visitors here for years! Never been let down, ...oh, except for one time they had a staff shortage and we had to wait a long time for the food. Every other time we pop in, find a table (and it's number), head off over to the bar (short queue or none), order the food and wait. Excellent choice of carvery options. The mashed potatoes are lovely! Average wait for another meal (not a carvery) is about 10/15 minutes. Lovely atmosphere inside even though it's on a rural roundabout! Try it. Its worth it.
