Stayed here last minute whilst my dad was in hospital so I could get a good meal and a comfy nights sleep. Honestly couldn’t fault the team enough, the room was wonderful, quiet, comfy and had all the amenities you could need. Dinner was delicious as well. The hotel staff were amazing, as I didn’t know whether I was staying the second night, they kept my room ready for me just in case. Will definitely be back, this time with my dog to relax and enjoy the grounds

We stayed in a hive with our 2 dogs also taking advantage of the hibernation package (pizzas, wine and breakfast delivered to your hive). On arrival our luggage and myself were whisked off up the track in a buggy whilst the dogs were walked up - the walk is pleasant but steep in some places. All fine in the dry but I would imagine it getting muddy and maybe slippy in the wet. The hive was well presented including dogs beds, bowls and a toy for each of the boys. There is WiFi with excellent coverage and speed - we saw 250Mb download speeds! Our pizzas arrived on time and were excellent - could not fault them. After a good nights sleep a hamper was delivered to the door with breakfast. All was very good - would recommend

Steak and ale pie last night with a group of friends. Food divine. Can't stop thinking about it. Really friendly, accommodating place. Honestly the food was spectacular and service great too

Lovely pub. We had a really nice lunch here. Good value for money with lovely ingredients. Just a word of warning though. No disabled parking and a slope to walk up and get into the pub. Lots of small steps. The girl who served us was lovely. All together a good experience

My first visit to the crown.. visited early afternoon(Wednesday) & must say staff very welcoming & friendly. I ordered a soup of the day as a starter, texture & taste was absolutely 1st class, As a Main i ordered Roston beef burger accompanied with chips & salads beautiful tasty succulent burger i have nothing but praise for the service & Food quality brilliant.. would highly recommend.

Went there for a meal as I was on a way back home. Me and my 2 best friends wore just so amazed by food. Just so good and a huge portions absolutely loved the place. Friendly and nice staff 👍

Have just had a week there. Staff are lovely, rooms comfortable and not noisy for room above a pub. Food is incredible, reasonably priced, fabulous quality and very generous portions. Good parking, nice atmosphere. Really nice breakfast too. Would very highly recommend. Thank you!

me and my boyfriend just finished a 12k hike and wanted a bite to eat and a pint, the Sunday roast was to die for! The service was quick but everything was homemade and amazing, definitely worth it!

Stopped here for lunch today. Easy parking. Very welcoming young woman behind the bar told us fine to bring in the dog and gave us a table near the fire. I had a braised beef balti (£14.95 ) which was very pleasant and more than I could eat. My wife had a ‘small’ lasagne which was quite a good size, which she enjoyed (£8.95). Good inexpensive pub food. Excellent and fast service to table. Very decent coffee to follow. Really good clean loos as well. When we left we took a short walk along the river from the car park. All good. Recommended!

Wonderful, lovely, and charming staff. Spectacular Indian cuisine paired with really good traditional pub food. Excellent wine list with some really interesting choices for those who like to try something new. We came for lunch and it was good we booked for dinner as well.

Came for food. Super dog friendly (even have a doggie menu!) and incredibly welcoming. Food and service second to none! Burgers were perfect and the pie was absolutely wonderful. No complaints at all! Already looking to come back in summer!

We went today for a girlie lunch which I have been for food and drinks many times and I can say that we received great food and the service was spot on. Hannah T met us and asked if we would like drinks first which we did, then she showed us to our table. Without having to ask she brought us a bottle of water and poured it out. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble and the standard of service that we received was exceptional. It’s good to see that the service has in my opinion improved greatly. Thanks as always and of course we will be back.

My wife and I were celebrating her first Wednesday off for 18 months following the end of a contract! An excuse to explore somewhere new but local. The Machine Inn, Ashbourne, was quiet, Wednesday lunch in September, but very pleasant. It didn't disappoint at any moment. The service and food was good and a fair price with a lovely menu. We will visit again with friends during an evening next, when there will undoubtedly be a different atmosphere.

Visited for live music event late afternoon , so didn't try menu . Lovely friendly pub,great atmosphere . Reasonable prices and helpful staff. Toilet facilities immaculate.

Had a ‘galentines’ afternoon tea here. Food was lovely and included some homemade desserts. Staff friendly and attentive. Lovely country pub. Will return to sample main menu!

One of the nicest pubs I've been to in a long time! Great food, drinks were ice cold and perfectly poured pints and the staff were so kind and welcoming! Italian Sunday was brilliant and the atmosphere was wonderful. Great hosts.

Still going, again and again, as promised; this remains the stand-out best place to eat (IMHO) in Ashbourne! Excellent; no other word for it! Despite living locally for some time, we have never dined here - regretting that now!! One of the best dinning experiences for some considerable time. The interior looks fresh and modern; the staff are utterly professional in everything they do (well trained / very experienced); the food is exceptional in flavour, presentation, and is delivered on hot plates; finally, the menu is seasonal, so expect the dishes to change - Spring, Summer, and Autumn. As I always say: get yourself along, whether local or just passing through … I know we’ll be going again, and again! 😉

On entering the historic building, sympathetically brought up to date, we were met with a warm welcome and shown to a table. The autumn menu seemed to cater for all tastes, with a particularly interesting selection of starters, some traditional, some more " in vogue". The mains included options for those with dietary needs, along with fairly traditional dishes given an exciting interpretation. Personally, I'd not normally pick chicken on a menu as it's too everyday, but I opted for the chicken kyiv with the chef's magic touch and was suitably impressed. Desserts were equally imaginative and I felt compelled to try one, despite the generous portions already consumed. The wine list again catered for all tastes, with a good selection of " by the glass" possibilities. The staff were both friendly and efficient and the overall experience a delight.

Out for a meal with 2 friends . There should have been 4 of us : he defo missed out. Lovely setting , good food and lovely waitresses . The menu changes every month… so photos are from the August 22 menu . Bit of a treck for us to go from Stoke but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ( already have actually)

We had a lovely evening meal here. My wife really enjoyed her Pasta main course and I had the Baked Cod in Parsley sauce. They were both delicious and really felt like proper "home cooked" food. The service was excellent and the pub had a really nice vibe.

Been here for food twice now. Both times alone, on business, during evening. Really decent home -cooked style food - they likely employ someone who knows what theyre doing. The dishes betrayed no evidence of microwave cuisine - like so many chain pubs do. Food was piping hot and plate was smoking, which was perfect, just how I like it. So many places serve onto cold or tepid plates, meaning the food is cold towards the end, not here..... Generous helpings, which in both visits has been welcome, having not eaten since breakfast.

Popped in for some lunch, wasn't disappointed. Enjoyed the garlic mushrooms as a starter then the brisket with veg and mash. Very reasonable on price. Good sized portions. Nice outside seating area. Will definitely visit again.

We booked here for the ease of location for the Uttoxeter race day. It has a very family-friendly atmosphere, with excellent customer service. The restaurant's food and pricing were of good value and excellently cooked. All the staff were very helpful and welcoming.

Just had a lovely 4 night Christmas break at The Boar's Head Hotel. Everything was clean, comfortable and so friendly at this special family run pub/hotel. Tasty home cooked food and plenty of it. Rooms serviced every day, even Christmas Day. All the staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful. I've been for a pub lunch several times throughout the year and never been disappointed. Highly recommend it!

Lovely big clean room. Very friendly staff. Food good too. Location OK but couldn't find walks from pub as hoped so had to drive to different location. Would return though.
