Lovely experience during our visit during the time of Christmas. They had a theme of Alice in the wonderland, clubbed with Christmas theme. The entire place is well maintained and has trails. This time, the trails were partially closed because of the ongoing work. Our kids enjoyed their theme inside the house and were having a good time walking around the lake.
National Trust site that has fantastic volunteers, a large house, walled garden, walks, used bookstore, cafe, and shop. If visiting in summer I’m sure this is 5 stars, but in January the walled garden was a bit barren and walks closed off. We spent about 30 minutes in this Tudor mansion house’s ground floor. Each room had small signs, and volunteers were excellent at providing additional details. There were a few rooms with interesting and unique touches, like the Stone Gallery (once a greenhouse), print room where pictures from Grand Tour pasted on the wall, and the 500 year old chapel at the end that depicts a 29 year old Henry VIII kneeling in the stained glass. The cafe was nice with plenty of seating, and had multiple vegetarian options like soup, toasties, drinks, and cakes. Facilities: Toilets in the car park and at house were adequate. Decent car park but not paved so can be muddy when went. The gift shop is quite small.
On a crisp, sunny but chilly afternoon, we decided to visit The Vyne. First time here around the Basingstoke area. The surroundings are naturally picturesque -- with clear skies lighted up by a radiant winter sunshine, the views are stunning. The walks around the property are gradual, and you get different views of the river and the house. The house interior is not as grand and delicately decorated as some other National Trust properties. Overall, it was a relaxing time with very scenic backdrops.
Nice National Trust. Good amount of parking at entrance. Nice bodies of water and pleasant walled garden. House was good from previous trips but we didn't go inside this trip. Food was great and had a different menu to our previous National Trust visits. Sadly the forest walks were off limits but the surrounding places are still good walks.
Lovely small national trust estate where you can go bird watching, woodland walks and explore the manor house and chapel. We went in January so most of it was not accessible but still nice to have a peaceful walk around the grounds if you already have membership.
