Popped in for Sunday lunch today for our first time and wasn't disappointed. We hadn't booked but the excellent gent on the bar warned us there could be a wait. The wait really wasn't bad, 30mins tops. Good was excellent. Beef brisket with all the trimmings and my wife had the mushroom pie. Delicious. We had our dog with us and we just stayed in the bar. Bakewell tart for dessert was set off with some fab creamy and deliciously sweet custard. Will be back!
The Hope and Anchor – A Cracking Pub in Wirksworth The Hope and Anchor isn’t just any old pub — it’s a proper good one. Right in the heart of Wirksworth, it’s got that warm, welcoming feel as soon as you step through the door. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, you’re made to feel at home. The drinks are spot on. Always a good choice of local ales, lagers, and spirits. Everything’s well looked after, and the prices are fair too. You can tell they care about what they’re serving. The staff are friendly and down-to-earth — no attitude, just good service with a smile. It’s the kind of place where they remember what you like and have time for a quick chat. Always a great night. The atmosphere’s brilliant — lively but relaxed, full of good people just enjoying themselves. It’s a real hub for the community, and you can feel that. All in all, the Hope and Anchor is what a good pub should be — great drinks, great people, and a great atmosphere. If you’re in Wirksworth, don’t miss it.
The Hope and Anchor is our choice of pub for meeting to enjoy a family meal together. The dining room has large tables and is well spaced out so you don't feel cramped, even when in a large group. We usually enjoy Sunday lunch here, the food is consistently good and there is a choice of alternatives if you don't fancy a roast. The portions are a decent size and there is a good selection of veg, which is always nicely cooked. The staff are lovely and service is attentive, even on Mothering Sunday, when the restaurant was full. There is a well stocked bar with decently kept beers, a good choice of wines and a nice variety of spirits. As well as the restaurant, there are several cosy bars, a lovely courtyard, and well behaved dogs are welcome. We don't always have room for a pudding, but there is a good choice of all the usual favourites. I am not often a fan of Sunday lunch out, as they can be disappointing, but this is not the case with the Hope. We have never had a bad meal yet.
A Monday evening find! The welcome was warm, friendly and efficient. The service was good, the bar well stocked and a selection of pub food, really appetizing. I had three tapas style dishes, (hoisin pigs in blankets very tasty). My wife chose a small steak. All presented well and in good time. Jayne our waitress was particularly helpful. To sum up, it was just what we needed, a tasty meal, a drink and to be served well Try it.
