Insanely good scallops with prawns to die for. The scallop roe butter on the sole takes this above most restaurants i have been in the last 2/3 yearly globally. Thanks!
We were visiting Tutbury, and stumbled across this lovely café. We only had drinks but even those were nice. The caramel latte is my favourite ☕ The staff were helpful and friendly. The toilets are on the left hand side of the café, and we're spacious and clean. I would recommend this café.
Bistrot Max, Tutbury – A Gem Amongst Staffordshire’s Finest Rare is the night that Bistrot Max opens its doors on a Friday evening, and rarer still is finding such a hidden gem in the heart of Staffordshire. Tucked away in the picturesque village of Tutbury, this unassuming bistro surpassed even the loftiest expectations. Accompanied by friends whose culinary escapades span some of the finest restaurants both in the UK and abroad, it was no small praise when they declared this the best bistro in Staffordshire. High praise indeed, but entirely deserved. From the moment we entered, the ambience struck the perfect balance – relaxed yet intimate, the kind of place where conversation flows as easily as the wine. The staff, ever attentive without being intrusive, hit that elusive sweet spot, making us feel entirely at ease. As for the food, where to begin? The mushroom soup, often a pedestrian choice, was a revelation. Who knew croutons could be so delightful? Crisp, yet somehow delicate, they elevated the soup to something bordering on sublime. For the main course, I opted for the venison – a bold choice, but one I would make again in a heartbeat. It was melt-in-the-mouth perfection, the kind of dish that lingers in the memory long after the plate has been cleared. The crowning glory, however, was the bread and butter pudding. In my humble opinion, there has only been one contender for the greatest of all time – Joseph’s in St Ives – and Bistrot Max’s version gave it a serious run for its money. Rich, decadent, and utterly moreish, it was the perfect end to an unforgettable meal. We’ve already booked our return visit, and I have no doubt that Bistrot Max will continue to impress. For those who value unpretentious yet flavour-packed food, impeccable service, and a cosy atmosphere, this bistro is a must-visit. Simply superb.
Absolutely exquisite food, amazing produce, and perfect service. We had amazing Hake and Cod cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back! This place is really classy with amazing attention to detail! Tutbury is so lucky!
I had to repost as my previous review was deleted in error during an edit. It was a first visit for us to the bistro for my wife and I and Wow, what a wonderful experience it was for us both. A warm and welcoming atmosphere awaited us as we entered. A staff member further greeted us with a smile and courteously guided us to our table. The menu had a superb selection, especially the fish dishes. The whole experience from the starters to the desserts was exquisite. The food was beautifully prepared, presented and tasted absolutely delicious. My tastebuds were having a party!! Compliments to the chef and staff that made this a memorable visit for us. As I said it was a first visit and all being well it won’t be the last. Will recommend without hesitation.
